My Nintendo DS is the first type that came out (it's been discontinued for awhile now) and i've had the same one for years but for the last couple monthes when i open the screen on turn it on the colors on the top screen look like one of the pictures you highlight and copy. Well now i'm thinking of getting a new DS but i'm worried about the save data for all my games. if i get a new one will the progress from all my games still be there in the new DS? A friend of mine told me that game progress is saved on the game card and not the DS itself. Could anyone verify that please?

It appears you have already gotten a 3DS, way to read the rest of the thread me /facepalm.

Your data will be fine. Your friend was right, the game data is all on the game itself and not the DS. If it weren't on the game itself, chances are there would be a memory card you'd have to have for it (Like with the PsP or Ps2)

And I agree with Sora96, the 3DS is the best option. Not only is it the newest version, with new games (KH3D will be out late next year, so there's always that) and great graphics, but gamestop (I'm pretty sure other places lowered their prices too) have lowered the price of the system to an affordable $169.99! That is a really good price when you consider that it used to be $249.99. To get some extra money for it, you could always try selling your old DS on Craigslist or something of the sort rather than at gamestop or some other store (since they buy it at a lower price than they sell it to make money), though they probably wouldn't buy the DS from you since it's the oldest, but I'm not quite sure.
