Two twins move to an island in the Pacific to live with their mother after their father can no longer take care of them and discover they have a strange connections with the ocean and marine life along with a few mythical creatures.

Personality: Terry's very quiet and reserved, not wanting to assert himself or butt into things. He's pretty anti-social and many people think that he's cold and rude, but he's actually just really afraid of other people, and doesn't understand them at all. He's secretly always wanted to join drama club, but he's never actually built the courage to try yet and doesn't think he ever will; he gives up easily and never tries things he thinks he'll potentially fail.

Appearance: Long black hair (about shoulder blade length), aquamarine blue eyes, 5'9", rather normal looking.

 

Personality: June is very quiet and studious but if a nerve is struck can be volatile as well. She is easily distracted and protective of the people she loves. Despite her mother's warnings, June has always been very fascinated with the ocean and has researched a lot on the subject. She wishes to have a profession regarding the ocean but isn't quite sure what yet.

okay, added age, added last name, fixed up description, we should be good to go.

Iridescent shades of blue and green hung over June's field of vision, closing in then blinking out of existence. It echoed but there was no noise. Like the silence was being replicated, drilling into her ears until it was almost painful. And suddenly, the blues and greens filling the void solidified and darkness was abundant. It was no longer silent yet it seemed as if any possible noise was muted by some immense pressure. June started and found she couldn't move as fast as she would like. Was this. . . . water?

 

Something titanic was surrounding her and it was as if her nerves jumped to life, screaming at her to defend herself. June struggled, confused at how exactly to do that. The titanic being, invisible in the dark, closed in on her and forced her lungs to deny something they've been doing since her birth. She was unable to breathe underwater.

June sat up bolt straight, gasping. She fumbled amidst her sheets like they were some sort of death trap. Her hands went to her throat and when she inhaled full gusts of oxygen, she felt a sob rising in her throat. June’s window was open; the night breeze dramatically moved the curtains and moonlight spilled over her room. Before she could think of letting it all out, a voice called her attention.

 

“June.”

 

Terry stood in her doorway, dressed in his pajamas and his face grim with knowing. The moonshine highlighted the green in his eyes to the point they looked inhuman.

 

June trembled. He had dreamt it too, she knew it. Instead, he chose to hide his fear behind an icy demeanor. He walked towards her, sat on her bed and held her in his arms. They didn’t talk about it, didn’t confirm again that they both dreamt it at the same time, didn’t reaffirm the fact that the dreams started when it was announced they would be living with their mother. They just held each other in silence, dreading and looking forward to tomorrow when they would be on their way to the Pacific.

Terry wanted to say something. Something comforting, something that would assuage both his and June's fears.

 

He felt her gripping tightly to him as they sat there together, their breathing perfectly in sync, like a ticking metronome. In, out, in, out. She was depending on him as much as he was depending on her. All they had was each other; it had always been that way. They cared for each other, they raised each other, even if to outsiders they acted like perfect strangers around each other.

 

The dream played over and over again in Terry's head, and the sense of panic it gave him was overwhelming. The feeling that he was trapped, yet at the same time lost forever in a void of nothingness.

 

And yet.

 

He felt almost at home there, floating in the dark, damp void. It had to have been what the ocean felt like. Weightless and free, but with a distinct sense of danger. He had never been near he ocean before; his father claimed to be "happy enough on land, thank you very much" and that was the end that. Dead before it could even being.

 

Terry felt June stiffen slightly in his arms, and then relax again.

 

He wanted to say something.

 

But he didn't.

June hadn't remembered falling asleep, she just stayed still in Terry's arms with her eyes closed, silently willing the void to go away. Yet she opened her eyes to a world filled with morning sunlight, the cool breeze now extremely windy. Goosebumps marked her skin and saw that she and Terry must have both fallen asleep without touching her tangled bed sheets. June looked at her brother's face, taking notice how much gentler it seemed when he was asleep. That is, until she realized he still held her.

 

June made a horrific sound and pushed herself out of his arms, landing smack down on her butt.

 

Terry woke with a start, his green eyes as wide as the ocean. They landed on his sister and immediately, he schooled his expression to look like it usually did. A perfect poker face. June glared at him, the blue of her eyes piercing. Their glaring contest was interrupted by their father's voice coming from inside the hall.

 

"Terry! June! Are you awake?!"

Terry stared at June unflinchingly. His mind was still foggy, especially after being waken up so abruptly, so he was having trouble remembering just why he was lying in his sister's bed and why she was blushing so furiously. Suddenly, he remembered; the dream, the ocean tugging him, crushing him, coming into June's room...ugh. Now he was beginning to wish he hadn't remembered.

 

"Terry! June! Are you awake?"

 

"Yes, Dad!" June yelled in reply. She pulled herself up and strode to the door, not looking back at Terry. He sighed and put his head back down on the bed. Today's going to be a long day...

June tugged furiously at this enormous knot in her wet hair, taking out all the emotions plaguing her on it. Not the most ideal form of therapy but it was the best she could do at the moment. She was excited; excited to see be able to see the ocean she always dreamed and that she could see her mother since Christmas. As it was currently spring break, normally her mother would come to the mainland but this time they were going over there, to her island. June was also scared. Scared that her parents' roles would be reversed, that she won't see her dad until summer vacation, that she would be surrounded by something other than land and to be transferring into a different school. Finally managing to get the knot out of her hair, June put the comb down and plugged in the dryer.

 

Her blue eyes stared piercingly into the mirror as she turned it on. That wasn't the end of her fear. She wasn't stupid. She knew her dreams meant something even though she was stupidly clueless as to what. And the fact that Terry dreamt the same dream, well that wasn't much of a coincidence. The Englishes didn't practice any certain faith but that didn't dissuade them from believing in any of them either. June was certain it was the work of something supernatural. It enjoyed playing with her and Terry's heads. No matter how terrified she was of this dream, she knew one thing was certain. She was not letting anything harm her twin brother. She'd willingly walk into the gates of Hell to ensure his well-being.

 

This train of thought caused her to pause in drying her hair and she turned off the dryer. Suddenly, June heard her father's voice drift through the cracks in the bathroom door and focused on it unintentionally.

 

"You were in June's room last night." A statement, not a question.

 

She heard the shuffling of feet and glanced through the crack. Terry had cleaned up and dressed. He had tied back his hair, striking against the white shirt he wore. He shrugged, unconcerned. June knew that he was as perturbed by this piece of information as she was. How did Dad knew these things, they would never know.

 

He smiled. "Don't play games with me, Terry."

 

Terry glared, his green eyes ablaze. If anyone could rile him up, it was their father. "Why do you care?"

 

"What kind of question is that?"

 

Terry rolled his eyes but his poker face disappeared to reveal a grim expression. "She was terrified. That was all it took."

 

Dad's expression was just as serious. He touched his son's shoulder. "Take care of her."

 

Her brother responded with something June never expected to come out of his mouth. "I was born to."

Terry forced his sluggish body to lift itself off the bed. He wiped his eyes groggily and stared at the alarm clock.

 

"7:30? Ugh...what the heck, Dad?" Their flight didn't leave until noon, and they had packed all that they needed the night before. But, then again, their father always was an early bird, unlike him or June. They were so different from him, Terry wondered if he was their real dad after all.

He pulled on a white t-shirt and a pair of jeans, and finished off the ensemble by tying his hair back with one of the satin bows his mother had sent June last Christmas. It wasn't exactly a practical look, but it would have to do. He shut the door and snuck down the hallway, careful not to get the attention of his fa--

 

"You were in June's room last night, weren't you?" Terry's dad said with a sly smirk. "Don't play games with me."

 

"Why do you care?" Terry spat. He didn't need this right now; his father's bullshit was the last thing he wanted to put up with today.

 

"What kind of question is that?"

 

"She was terrified. That was all it took."

 

Suddenly, something in his dad's face changed. He looked...older, almost. Like a veteran coming back from a long and hard war. "Take care of her."

 

"I was born to. S-She's my sister...my TWIN sister." His voice cracked slightly.

 

Shit...this is not the time to be getting all choked up and teary. Need to put my game face back on...

 

"Anyways," he shifted back into his regular droning monotone, "what are we having for breakfast? And can I have a Tylenol to go with it? My head is killing me."

((LOL, really? I didn't know I was that good.))

 

It took June several slaps to the face to calm herself down. She didn't understand what that was and why Terry said what he did. By the time she finished making herself presentable, her cheeks were twice as red from the blush and the slaps combined.

 

Her brother was in the middle of eating some cereal, reading the newspaper. June caught sight of the headline, something about the unusual activity the oceans had been experiencing since the spring equinox. He was so intense and brooding, June was given the sudden mental image of an emotionally distant anti-hero that was typical in media. The thought made her frown with amusement. Terry noticed and gave her a you-look-like-an-idiot face. June glared and stuck out her tongue.

 

"You know," said Terry when he finished swallowing. "There's an adult version of that. It's called the middle finger."

 

June was about to give a mouthful of what exactly was 'adult' when Dad interrupted her. "Good morning, June," he smiled, taking out some Eggo waffles and maple syrup for her. Dad went up to her and kissed her on the forehead. June tensed, feeling sad. "What's the matter?"

 

"Just going to miss you doing that to me every morning," she said with dismissal as she grabbed the Eggo waffles from his hands and popped them in the toaster. There was no movement behind her as she gathered her kitchen utensils. She stared at the clock. 8:30 a.m. Terry carefully avoided looking at her as she deposited everything on the kitchen island.

 

"For what it's worth," Dad came up to her and have her a sideways hug. "You look beautiful."

 

June blushed and looked down at herself. She was clad in a rather chic looking shirt that matched her blue eyes, white shorts and matching flats. And she purposely waved her hair and put on skin toned makeup, just the way her mother liked it. "I thought it would make Mom happy," she answered modestly only to look up at Terry looking at her with a completely unreadable expression. "What are you looking at?" she asked antagonistically.

 

A smirk was his only response. One of these days, I will wrap my hands around that scrawny neck of his and throttle him.
