Final Fantasy XIII-2 heads tease new project

Toriyama: "I'd be happy if you could anticipate it."

The Final Fantasy XIII-2 Ultimania Omega book released in Japan today, and contains a new interview with producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Motomu Toriyama, where the pair seem to hint at a new project – perhaps Final Fantasy XIII-3.

Kitase: (The last part about Lightning’s DLC Episode) Explaining “XXX Years Later” would be pointless. It might seem that the line “To Be Continued…” means that Lightning’s chapter will continue in more download content, but we are doing it in a different interpretation.

Toriyama: With Lightning remaining in the 〇〇〇〇ル (crystal?) but still keeping her heart, you could say that the world of Final Fantasy XIII will be permanently 〇〇ed. I’m praying for the day to come that Lightning will surely 〇〇めて (wake up?) and Serah will be rewarded. Like Lightning advancing one step forward in the secret event, I think we want to take a step forward to advance our own project. From now on, I’d be happy if you could anticipate it.

XIII-3, by Christmas.

They better cuz the ending for the game and the lightning dlc really sucked

I thought the ending was awesome. The "to be continued" doesn't bother me at all; it makes me more excited if anything. Anyway, I'd be happy if a XIII-3 came out, but I think they should tie it in with Versus somehow. Because Etro is a goddess in both games, and therefore Etro dying in XIII-2 must affect the Versus world.

tutti frutti. In the time period that Square continues this "series" of XIII, they could be putting that same level of time and effort to finish Versus. Square could have ended the story on XIII-2 so that they would have more manpower to complete the century long wait for Versus. They've already put a good chunk of it on DLC, why not just finish it on DLC over create a completely full game of XIII-3? It's stuff like this that puts Versus on the hiatus/vaporware and in turn keeps us waiting.
