Well, a few days back my import arrived. Now that I've done completed all three scenarios, and completed the lost episode (all On critical mode mind you) I thought I might as well do a small review. Well.. Here goes nothing. Also, If you have any questions about the game, ask .
Birth by Sleep takes place 10 years before the events of the original Kingdom Hearts. The game follows three keyblade apprentices on their own journeys. All three scenarios tie in, and eventually lead to the Lost episode which is unlocked once you complete the three scenarios. Nomura stated that each Scenario takes 15 hours. I found myself reaching around level 40-50 and completing a scenario in about 16 hours. Although when you total it up, It accumalates to around 50 hours. Add the amount of time it takes to max out your character(s), And you got a good 65-70 hours. So length is no problem here.
The combat is very polished. Although it takes an hour or two to get used to, You'l find yourself immersed in it. The combat flows perfectly, And the new additions such as Focus and D-Link are very well done. D-Link involves you tapping into the powers of other characters such as Ven, Aqua, Terra, Malificent, and even Zack. There are a pretty big amount of D-Links for each character. Also, the decks aren't cards if some of you think so. What you set are the abilities, Focus attack, and your command list. The command list composes of special attacks, And magic spells such as Fire, Cure, Blizzard, Etc. Although when your special attack commands are recharging (there is no magic, So spells recharge also, Cure ofcourse takes a while to recharge) you can press O to do your normal attacks. Commands are most used for tight moments, or for an extra bit of damage.
The storyline as always is top-notch. All scenarios tie in, and as I said, lead to the lost episode. I will not reveal spoilers for those of you who are keeping your eyes shut. The new Disney worlds are wonderufly done, With an awesome amount of detail. The game does reveal a lot of plot twists and such, And answers a few questions. But in the end, It just adds more questions. All though the new questions may cause an anxious wait for the answers that might be revealed in KHIII, The storyline is a touching, and Beautiful addition to the lore of Kingdom Hearts.
On to the Graphics, The graphics are PS2 Quality. No I'm not exagerating. I found myself in awe once I started playing the game, and Saw how there was never a moment where the graphics were dull. So bravo to Square Enix for bringing the PSP to it's full potential.
Also, The sound effects and music are amazing. The Voice acting will blow you away, And the music through out the game is addicting and goes great with the mood.
All in all, Birth by Sleep is an amazing addition to the Kingdom Hearts series. It meets expectations, and makes us wonder what else is next for this great series. Although, I reccomend you do the Data Install. Choose the 600 MB option, This will make the game run much faster. Without it, Save menus take long to open, And going into modes such as Fury blazer and such takes forever. So do the Data Install.
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep for the PSP recieves a 10.. Out of 10.
