I think we've all had those moments where a ludicrous amount of variables worked in your favor, or someone else's. Just now I was on the giving end of that luck.
It's currently hot as balls out here and I live in a mountainous area, so there are hills aplenty. I was driving home when I spotted an old lady not far from my house. She looked at me but I wasn't sure she actually wanted anything, so I parked and almost finished gathering my things when I saw she came up to my car. Now, this lady was pretty old and frail and outside frying in the heat, but I couldn't quite figure out what she wanted since she spoke in a whispery voice, plus she was Asian and I guess didn't know much English.
Anyway, I managed to decipher that she needed a ride somewhere, and by "decipher," I mean she went up to my car door and made motions to open it. Her house was less than a two-minute drive from here, but a walk there would've been hell for me and especially someone her age. Now, here's where the luck part of the equation comes in: I don't know how long she was walking beforehand, or how long she was waiting out there in the heat, trying to get a driver's attention. I couldn't tell she wanted anything, and I only stopped because it was my house. If she hadn't been around by the time I got home, and if I hadn't lived pretty much right where she was standing, I don't know how long it would've taken her to get home.
So yay, I got some karmic brownie points for doing a good deed. Still, I wouldn't have gotten those points if luck hadn't tipped in that lady's favor. So, have any of you ever been on the receiving or giving end of something that just plain worked out for you, just for being at the right place at the right time?
