In the land of Hoenn, there is a civil war taking place. There are four parties involved in the fighting, each taking a name from the Japanese Guardians:

 

The Milites Empire consists of the Elite Four of the region, and they seek to conquer the entire region for the advancement of their own power. They use powerful, fully evolved brute force and machinery to fight. Wallace stands as their supreme leader, and his charisma makes troops obey his every command.

 

The Kingdom of Concordia are the lovers of nature who hold a special power over Pokemon. They can communicate with Pokemon and raise them without the use of Pokeballs. They consist of few Rangers and tribes of Pokemon.

 

The Lorrican Alliance is the league of gym leaders from the region. They are a small and elite number that try to fight for their own power and authority, because they used to be the diplomatic leaders of the region. Once the Milites Empire struck, they lost authority. They will slowly disband and divide into other parties...

 

And finally-

 

The Suzaku Fiefdom of Hoenn (or just Suzaku) is the region of the Pokemon Professors. Here Professor Birch has trained a small army of students in the ways of Pokemon battling. They are the "heroes" of this story. They fight for an end to all the conflict. They stress peace and knowledge as the way of the future. As fighters, they do not rely on brute force, but on strategy and skill. Birch's lead commanders are Brendan and May, who oversee all of the classes and support the strongest members on missions. Many students attend the school, but only one class will receive the spotlight here...

Prologue: The Fires of Suzaku

 

 

“AAAARGH! WE’RE UNDER ATTACK!”

A fireball slammed into a home, engulfing it in flames. Milites soldiers stood laughing at their work, their flamethrowers in their hands. Suddenly something flew through the air. One soldier groaned. His friends looked at him. A flagpole had stabbed right through him and planted itself into the ground. The other solders looked upwards. From the roof jumped seventeen hooded figures.

“ Go!” their leader cried.

Quickly, the team dispatched the Milites soldiers. They cleared the bodies away from the flag. It’s golden phoenix shone brightly on the red background. The team stood under the flag.

“ Let’s go! Mission Apostle begins now!” they cried, thrusting their weapons into the air.

Littleroot Town was burning. Smoke filled the air. The Miltes Empire was trying to seize Suzaku’s stronghold.

Drex tossed off his hood and turned to face his team.

“Come on guys, the whole town is under attack. We’ve got to clear the area of soldiers. Split up and help as many civilians as you can,” he said. “We’re looking for their source of power. We kill it, we kill their weaponry. Divide and conquer.”

Drex spun his swords in his hands. His Quilava stood next to him. A soldier appeared from around the corner. He shot bullets towards Drex, but Quilava melted them with Flamethower. Drex cast a fire spell that knocked the soldier off guard. Drex ran up to him and stabbed downwards.

He pulled the blade out of the corpse. The hunt was on.

Opponent's Drex was fast asleep.

 

ZZZ ZZZ ZZZ

Kira started shaking Drex. "hey, wake up!" she yelled. She soon stopped shaking him and stared. Celebi started hopping on Drex. "bi!!" it cheered happily.

Opponent's Drex was fast asleep.

 

ZZZ ZZZ ZZZ

"this is never gonna end...." Kira moaned, resting her head in her palm as she took out a PokeBall. "Celebi, please use Energy Ball..." she said. Celebi launched a green ball at Drex.

Drex's body burst into flames and the Energy Ball disintegrated. Drex snapped upward.

"You alright?" he said. "Did I hurt you with the fire?"

"no..." Kira said, staring at Drex. Celebi flew high into the air. "bi!!" it yelled at Drex. "but you startled my Celebi..." she said.

"Sorry about that," Drex said. "Survival instinct must have kicked in. That was a good spell. You obviously have a knack for Grass spells, or you wouldn't be in Class-0. Just think about when you master the Grass element. It's one of the most peaceful and pure forms of magic. I guess it reflects how gentle you are- how you don't want to fight, right?"

Suddenly, a green crystal appeared from nowhere and floated over in front of Kira.

"What is that?" Drex said, jumping up. He reached out to touch it, but it shocked him. "Ouch, I'm fine."

On her way back Claw had noticed the flames. What's that about? she wondered. Claw was a good runner, though Kagei took off first, she'd beaten her. She looked back to find Kagei when she slammed right into Kira. "Uh, sorry!" she yelled out as she regained balance. She'd look silly if she just stood there gaping, "U-uh, what, umm happened here?" Her Espeon jumped from behind over Claw's shoulders. She stroked Espeon gently and used her Hyper potion. Espeon let out a satisfied and adoring purr.

Kagei was purely surprised. Claw had the speed and agility and she didn't.

And then she saw her slam onto Kira.

"Of course." she smirked. Looked like something had happened. She slowed down and saw Drex get a shock. Umbreon let itself out of it's Pokeball and walked along with Kagei.

 

Upon reaching the area, Claw turned to Kagei and siad, "Oh, hey Kagei~! How's everything coming along?"

Kagei felt like face-palming herself. She'd missed classes and lunch and it's all her fault. I'll get her next time.

 

Kagei felt like going back to her dorm. She didn't have business here. Besides she'd left her Power Gem (?) back in her dorm. She'd been so stupid enough to do that and going around without her weapon was truly dangerous.

 

She walked past the crowd waving her hand saying a barely audible, "Hey"

"Hey there," Drex said, hardly looking away from the crystal. "Do you guys know what this is? It looks like something from legend..."

"Legend...?" Claw whispered anxiously. Espeon perked its ears and observed the crystal. The gem (?) on its forehead reflected the crystal, and Espeon's eyes were filled with its view. "Well, what's wrong, Espeon?" Claw asked. Espeon let out a quiet purr and looked away. What happened, Claw wondered. That's weird...

 

"What legend? I'm kinda, um, interested." Claw managed to say. "It looks kinda...mystical..."

She wondered and she saw Celebi along with Kira. Legends interested her. Lore, mysteries, legends anything could pick up her interest.

 

Could it be...

Kagei stopped. She looked behind to Drex and the crystal. She was interested. No, not now. You can always catch up. The power gem should be your top priority for now, she convinced herself as she noticed Claw ask him. She'll tell me.

 

"Oh, that's nice." Kagei said again in a slightly audible tone and continued her way back. Umbreon looked back into the crystal. It saw Espeon interested. Umbreon turned away and walked off with Kagei.

 

The last thing she heard was Claw say in a soft tone, "Like Trainer, like Pokemon, I guess"

"What! When did I suddenly get perminently included into this group? I still have to go read my 18th book" Rau said.

Kagei wooshed past Rau.

Hope tapped Rau on the back of the head.

"You joined this family, and now you're stuck with us," she chirped. "There's a romantic comedy playing right now! And let me tell you, you could learn a little about romance, Rau."

 

Drex stared at the crystal.

"Guys, we should bring this to Birch," he said.

Claw nodded. Espeon purred again. "Espeon, you okay?" she asked. Her Espeon seemed very unhappy but nodded anyway.

 

"And, oh Drex, what...what was that legend you were talking about?"

Kagei had reached her dorm. She went inside and started ruffling through her stuff to find her Power Gem (?)

Kira looked confused. She looked up at the crystal. "What the..." she whispered. Her Celebi flew towards the crystal, observing it. "what in the world is this?" she wondered aloud. bring this to Birch? Good idea.... she thought. "ok." she said.

Drex looked around at them.

"The legend, I can't believe it, but is this the legend of the Agito?"

Questioning looks were looked at him. He continued.

"There was said to be seventeen constellations, each representing an aspect of mankind, and when they gathered together, the Agito would come forth and save the world from Finis, the apocalypse. It was said that the constellations appeared to each person once they realized a certain truth about themselves, and that it took the form of a glowing crystal."

Kira stared at Drex. "what am I supposed to do with this, though?" she asked. Her Celebi flew around the crystal, as if it was a strange person. i wonder.... she thought.

"Keep it, it's yours," said a voice behind them.

They turned around and saw Professor Birch.

"I was right, Class-0 is the Agito."

Rau made an attempt to escape to the library

 

Alister returned to his dorm room till Dinner.

 

Hisashi continued to train

Fai giggled "sounds fun" she said as she smiled.

Kira stared at Birch. "it's mine? Is it supposed TI help me with something?" she asked. Celebi flew over to Birch and smiled. "bi!!" it cheered.

"NO it does not sound FuN!" yelled Rau as he ran to the library.

"Ohhh," Claw whispered under her breath. Class-0, we're...The Agito?

 

Espeon was getting restless. It jumped off from Claw's shoulders and growled loudly. "Huh?" Claw jerked back.She bent down to Espeon, "Espeon, you're acting real weird today, do want to go the Pokemon Centre?" Espeon cried out loudly in anger. It ran straight ahead, past the group. Claw had no idea what was happening, "Espeon!"

 

The pokemon ran a few metres ahead and then stopped. Claw was getting very concerned, that wasn't like Espeon.

She bent down and soothed it, "It's okay, I know you're upset about that battle..." and before she could finish, Espeon touched a button in a Pokeball attached to the Pokegear in Claw's waist and returned. Claw sighed. She stood up and went back to the crowd, "Sorry about that," she mumbled.

Umbreon had found Kagei's Power Gem and held it in front of her to show it. "That's it." she mumbled and got back her Gem. It was a diamond-shaped, black gem with an eerie feel to it. Kagei held it tight in her palms and in the next moment Umbreon turned aggressive. The Power Gem worked fine. She put it carefully in her coat pocket and went over to her Pokemon and patted it, "Sorry about that Umbreon and thanks a bunch" Umbreon nodded and both of them walked outside.

 

What legend were they talking about, Kagei wondered as she walked past a few dorms. On her way she saw Alister return to his dorm. She walked past him and made her way out of the area.

Alisted ignored Kagei like he usully ignored people. as he went to the room.

"Yes, and hold on to it. It should shrink and fit into your pocket," he said. "If I'm not mistaken, that is the essence of Gentleness. It's something that you embody and have realized that. I tend to think that each one of you embodies a different feature, and I hope that you all find them. I hear, that when all 16 of them have gathered, they can save the world from Finis."
