Okay so I've played day, ddd, and currently playing CoM and I'm confused with the characters

Whats the order of the games based on the story especially ddd thats the most confusing one . Why is sora different ages in different parts of the game . Why does riku have short hair in most of the game medium length hair when Master Yen Sid told him he passed the "MoM" test and long hair when sora trys to run after him and Kairi help

BBS -> KH1 -> Days -> CoM begins and ends -> Days end -> KH2 -> Re:Coded -> 3D

The order of all games is BBS, KHI, Days/CoM/Days. KHII, coded, 3D. He is a different age in the sleeping worlds cuz he was basically reset for new training. He is still technically the same age.

As for Riku, I guess he just decided to go with a horrible haircut for this one :P

And Sora chasing after Riku and Kairi, that's just an illusion based on memories. Not real.

Hmmmm so in the sleeping worlds they're reset to when they just get their keyblades

In story/chronological order:

Birth by Sleep

KH1

Days

CoM

KH2

Re:Coded

3D

Days and CoM can be a little confusing because the time frame over laps some. The games are meant to be played in release order though.

Some parts of the game take place in the real world and some take place in a dream world. Usually when you see Sora and Riku older it's because it takes place in the real world with some exceptions. When they're younger they were either taken to the past because of time travel or are in the dream world. Sora and Riku never had proper Keyblade training and instead taught themselves how to wield but their rough style was insufficient to take on Master Xehanort so Yen Sid had Riku and Sora become younger, right before the point they started wielding because their skills had to be "reset" and through out 3D they relearned how to wield.

Riku's hair when he's older and in his younger dream form are supposed to be about the same length but the styles look slightly different for some reason. I take it that his hair was longer when Sora was chasing the mirages or Riku and Kairi either because that's how Sora remembers Riku the most, pre hair cut, or who ever was manipulating the illusions didn't know about Riku's hair cut.

I think that's more or less the gist of it.

For the mom Riku's hair is shorter since they were put back to when they were younger. Same goes for Sora's age. The order of the games story wise is:

BBS

KH1

Com

Days

(Days and com happen around the same time but com finishes off first.)

Kh2

Coded

DDD

(an altered version of jpow11's time line, the one I found wasn't updated with released games)

While playing days, half the Org are sent to CO, the start of COM, COM ends and they (most importantly in the story is Axel out of those who left) return for the end of days.

Sora is different ages because he is his normal age before the exam, however he's stripped of the powers and abilities he gained to ensure a fair exam based on their own strength of heart, and not the abilities they gained on their individual journey's.  He's in his KH2 form in TWTNW, I assumed, because as Yen Sid said near the start (or someone said) that his dreams will try to lie to him, I assume it was trying to convince him he was awake already.  He's back in his young form for the rest of Riku's exam, 'cause he's still in the dream world, and he's back to his KH2 outfit afterwards because he has left it.

The change of the hair (unless it was a simple continuity error, don't think I noticed it)  would be down to the same reasons
