Bibliotheca Mystica de Dantalian~ The ‘Shadows' Case’ ~ [A 1x1 between Neko-chan and CloakedSchemerX]

Posted

-Introduction-
In England after World War I, Hugh Anthony Disward, also known as Huey, has finished his travels with Dalian and is currently watching her in good health. Hal Kamhout and Flamberge have finished off most of the Phantom Books, but it is still unknown if any still exist. ‘Professor’ and Rasiel have not been seen after the printer-company incident. The girl from the archives still is held within Dalian and the archives are still to access. A new Biblioprincess has been chosen, with a new Key Keeper. After discovery of hundreds of more Phantom Books, what news reporters called ‘The Shadow Case’, has traumatized many villagers and the new, unknown Key Keeper is being called out by the Biblioprincess, The Shadow Case, will have to be taken care of, also the effects of The Shadow Case.

-‘The Shadow Case’-
The Shadow Case takes place of demoniac shadows that come in different forms, some even possessing humans. Effects of the Shadow case include these shadows becoming monsters, burning down towns, causing reverse effects that should not be held in this world. The world is going out of balance because of this case all because of Phantoms Books. That is where the Biblioprincess and Key Keeper come in.

-Author’s Note-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYqg97kSGuA Lyrics:

Miku:

Still...You are...All alone..

The sky is so blue
If only you knew it
If only you knew it...ahh

Meiko:

Where am I?
Even though the sky is blue
What I see is burned sand and rock face

The winds howl
Even though the horizon is far away
I was moved

Dried lakes
Burning fields
Someday they all will get back on the track
So, now I go forward

Even to the far future
There is a way to link
So, do not turn around
We can go through it

Len:

For everybody
That's what they said but...

In the starless sky
Light is overflowing
Since when
Have we been deserted?

The ladder that reaches to the end of the sky
I can't ascend it
In the cold world, holding hands,
We live today as always
We're not lifeless

(Stars, falling stars)

Someone, please give me courage
To face forward without turning back
The iron giant should shake the earth,
Disturb the atmosphere and follow

Even so I'd rather go with someone laughing
Than living all alone
Kick the earth to get onto the atmosphere
Believing in a fate that I can meet you

"Well we don't want to scar the little boy, that woman would get mad if she had to take care of this, so let's do this." Elda sighed, grabbing Noah's arm.

"Find the book, then get out. That's all we are doing." She said seriously, opening the door.

Aisling sighed, leaping out of the car and picking Joshua straight up.

"We aren't letting them beat us." She said, walking towards their destination.

"Come on Margaret!" Anthea exclaimed running ahead.

"Fine. I hope it's that simple." Noah grunted, and stood beside Elda, not wanting to go in himself, much less first. "But this is a brothel...they're going to think I'm perverted and that you're a lesbian," He pointed out abruptly. "I'm not even sure how well we'll be able to find the Phantom Book, or who it may have corrupted."

Margaret left and ran with Anthea, eager to "win." I was too, but our destination was closer, and we didn't need to. I strolled along beside Aisling, entering the hollow rooms of a Phantom Book's presence.

Elda looked at Noah seriously.

"They are going to think we are a couple of sick perverts." She said seriously, locking her grip on Noah's hand and dragging him inside the place.

"Just be on the look out, the book will be in the back, I can tell." She said, starting to lead Noah back there.

"Where is it Joshua?" Aisling asked.

Noah did his best to zone out everything in the entire building except Elda, just taking her lead. As she led him elsewhere, Noah was fine shutting his eyes, but that did nothing but enhanced his hearing so he opened them again, looking ahead with Elda and nothing else. (This is incredibly awkward...where would it even be...?) He thought in angst.I looked around a bit, not to much use. The book was in plain sight, the building empty. It hadn't corrupted anyone yet. "It's just...in the middle of the room." I pointed out to Aisling. A dense fog was around it, expanding. Going to get the Phantom Book in a few moments, I walked into the fog-- my eyes instantly shut and I slowly came down onto the floor, an illusion grasping my unconscious mind. The book didn't afflict itself upon another, but instead an area.

"Ais..ling...?" I called, seemingly nowhere. My body lied on the ground, motionless and limp. I felt almost paralyzed-- heavy, as if gravity had been forced down on me ten times as strong as normal. My eyes were heavy as well, slowly closing against my will. I felt so imminently weak and heavy...lazy, sloth-like. From most directions, I could hear the rattling and slithering of innumerable snakes headed my direction. (I...can't move....)

Dante stopped on the other side of town. It was darker, like an alleyway, but the bright of day still managed to cling to it. "Come, Hiro," He called, shutting and locking his door. "I can feel the remaining five Deadly Sins within The Shadows' Case here and elsewhere. The Books of Greed and Wrath are dealt with, and two of the remaining appear to be active. We must be near at least one...."

Margaret ran with Anthea to the other direction, and stopped after a short while. "Lead us from here, Anthea," She stated, now wielding her two scythes.

  • Author

Elda sighed. This was getting nowhere.

"It should be in the back room, hidden somewhere." She said seriously, looking at Noah.

"Hey! I don't know where to lead you!" Anthea snapped at Margaret.

"The Book of Gluttony...." Hiro announced.

"It should be hidden in an obvious place..." She muttered, looking at Dante.

Aisling looked at Joshua.

"Joshua....?" She asked.

Suddenly whatever had possessed Joshua got ahold of her.

"She can't stay here....she'll only cause trouble. People like her are said to be cursed."

"Mother only got her heart problems from Aisling. She is cursed. Father is getting her out of here tomorrow, but remember to still treat her well."

Aisling sat in the background, she was transparent, and her keyhole was showing at her side. The side of her dress torn, exposing the keyhole. She couldn't move though.

"Why can't I be like the others....?" She whispered.

Noah sighed at the fact that it hasn't been found yet. Poor Elda, leading him the entire time as well. "I'm still not looking at anything here but you— sorry for having you do this, I guess." He apologized quiet enough for only Elda to hear.

Margaret grunted with that realization. "You can't!? I can only tell when a human is possessed by it...." she sighed, and looked around almost desperately.

"How ironic." Dante added, keeping Hiro beside him and strolling about. The floor was strewn with half-eaten food and generally useless items. The decor seemed rather nice and expensive individually, but none matched and some even had too much. "Someone must be affected by it, then...."

I continued to lie over the ground, the sounds of snakes only getting closer. Aisling appeared in my line of vision soon, but she was in the same state as I was, but still afar. My hand reached out in vain, and I still couldn't really move. Wanting to get to Aisling, I managed to move a few feet ahead, before gravity fell down on me even harder than before.

"It's okay, we are almost there...." Elda whispered to Noah.

"How disgusting...." Hiro sighed.

She looked up to Dante.

"Let's hurry up and get this over with before I am ate alive." She snapped, walking on ahead.

Anthea shook her head.

"I can't Margaret!" She snapped, her grip becoming tighter on the rabbit stuffed-animal she carried everywhere.

Aisling turned around to see Joshua. She slowly stood up, and walked towards him. As soon as she reached to help him up, her hand went right through him.

"Joshua....?" She asked.

Her voice was nothing more then a whisper. It was unlike hers.

"Truly...." Dante stated, observing the grotesque remains of whomever was tainted by the Book of Gluttony. As messy as it all was, there was no definitive trail left behind in the rather large building to easily locate the victim, but it should not prove to be all too difficult. "Stay beside me, Hiro," He called to her, proceeding up the stairs and doing his best to follow the sound of gnawing. As the first stair creaked, the gnawing stopped abruptly. He continued up the steps."Ugh, fine." Margaret stressed a bit, continuing off into the cul' de sac she was initially led to. The presence of corruption lied in each home, the same in all, but clearly having affected more than one family."Aisling...." Joshua called desperately, reaching out for Aisling as well. He gave a short cry as it was to no avail, and the snakes slithered about ever closer to him, along with incoming demise. With even more desperation, he stood up and nearly walked a few steps before gravity brought itself down upon him again with overgrowing prowess. "It is not worth the effort...." The essence of Sloth began whispering to him, unbeknownst of a location. "You cannot save your life. And when it ends, Aisling too, will die regardless of her will. You are not up to the task. The heavy burden brings you down."

  • Author

"Whatever that is Dante, it's going to find us.." Hiro whispered to her Keykeeper.

The munching had stopped, signifying whatever was possessed had noticed them.

"So, what do you think this book could be?" Anthea asked Margaret, looking around the curl' de sac.

"Joshua! You can get up! I know you can!" Aisling said, looking at Joshua.

She reached for him again, and managed to grab ahold of him this time, yet she fell go the ground just as Joshua did.

"No idea...." Margaret said, unsure of what lied ahead. The presence was enveloped throughout a few homes, however...though, each were rather small. She grabbed Anthea's hand and brought her into the first home, finding the two Phantom books upon the floor, both with a golden and black design to them, and an ouroboros. Foreign symbols and runes were etched within and outside of the books as well. One read The First: Malice and the other read The Twelfth: Trouble. Upon coming only a few feet away from them, the books erupted into manifestations of Phantoms, both bypassing Anthea and Margaret, entering the other houses, and awakening all ten others in mere moments.Dante stopped in hesitation before continuing. He looked behind, distantly, as if towards somewhere else of the town. "Enochian Phantoms...?" He inquired, quietly, as Hiro was pounced and pummeled by someone appearing hardly human, as if to devour her. "Hiro!" Dante called, a golden barrier blocking her from the creature a few seconds."Aisling...!" I called eagerly, just before she fell to the ground as well. "You are not prepared for God's plans, young Joshua, nor are you for ours." I stopped, confused as much as he was exhausted from Sloth's incessant abilities. "...." I stopped, speechless and thoughtful. (What...what do you mean?) The voice of Sloth continued speaking, "All should know that God has a plan for everyone. But do you know who it benefits? NONE BUT HIMSELF!!" The voice startled me, I stayed down in absolute fear of the demonic voice. "What few know...is that we have a plan as well." The voice of Sloth dropped its might onto Aisling as well, whispering: "You, too, prove far too weak to save yourself or Joshua. And shouldn't you care about yourself for once as well...?" The snakes had reached them, beginning to slither across myself and Aisling, not yet biting. "You and your father always seem to have a false sense of invincibility...."

"What book could this be?!" Anthea exclaimed.

This was insane.

Hiro managed to stand up, running behind Hiro.

"Thank you, Dante." She stated.

Aisling froze, hearing the voice of sloth.

"Don't talk about my father!" She snapped, gripping onto Joshua.

"Joshua, there is no way this could be real....we can get out of this. If you want, we can open the bibliotheca!" Aisling said seriously.

"It's not a book...." Margaret glanced around, seeing all twelve erupted and carrying their respective books. "They're all...Phantoms. Not even corrupted humans...these are all phantoms of different books." Margaret gulped, and then smirked. She unsheathed her two weapons and brought them into their forms as firearms. She shot , only for the Phantoms to all scatter throughout the city, each in different places. There wouldn't be much time to handle all twelve alone.Dante paid no more heed to the auras of Enochian phantoms released, and focused all of his attention to Hiro. "I'm pleased to do so, Hiro, no thanks are necessary." He stated nonchalantly, just as he took his golden gun and fired it at the creature without hesitation. Shot at a non-lethal area, Dante's eyes glimmered gold, "Oxex raclir!" He chanted, as before with Lira, causing the thing to vomit and weep. A much more grotesque sight than expected, with this one, with all he ate and now with blood. Its gluttonous and ravenous demeanor was deprived, and the phantom returned to its book, the man corrupted alive, but sickened.Noah grit his teeth, the sounds from everyone around him were distracting and annoying. "Surely we could reach the end of a building by this point...!" He growled, still following Elda."You act as if my absence will stop the rest," The voice of Sloth rang in Aisling's ears, even as mere whispers, "I am curious, however, nothing is meant to occur until tomorrow...! The loss of many Phantoms today will bring you no avail. They will merely wait." I looked at Aisling hopefully, holding my hand up to reveal my key, then slowly saying: "I ask of thee: art--"My sentence cut off by the snakes around me, it had bitten in-- injecting mild venom into me. Mild, however, dozens of other snakes coiled around me, some possibly lethal, others not. Aisling began being bitten as well.

"We can't handle all of these!" Anthea yelled at Margaret.

"All of the Biblioprincesses and Keykeepers would have to gather up!" She snapped.

Anthea was telling the truth though. This Shadow Case was getting out of hand.

"That was easy." Hiro said with a smile.

"Where is the book though?" She asked.

Elda opened the final door, looking down at Noah. "We are here." She snapped.

Aisling imminently winced, her grip tightening on Joshua's hand. What was supposed to happen tomorrow?

"Finally." Noah stepped inside after Elda, slamming the door behind him, getting straight to the point. "Now where's the book...?" He wondered, rummaging through the room quickly. The corrupted man lied alive, but unconscious. Taking that as an advantage, Dante took Hiro back up the stairs and searched around. "Searching for the location of the Phantom Book is generally supposed to be the easier part of it, but in this clutter...." Dante sighed."That's...." Margaret grunted, she sheathed her weapons as every last one of the Phantoms had fled. "...That's...probably the point of it. They want us to." She turned around and went back towards Aisling and I, grabbing Anthea and pulling her with her without a moment of hesitation."I'm sorry, Aisling," I apologized, feeling helpless as can be. "I feel sorry for your parents having to live with you two failures." The essence of Sloth spoke now, instead of whispering into either of our ears, it echoed throughout the area. "But wait," it laughed, "They aren't."

  • Author

"Where do you think?" Elda asked, pointing to the book in plain sight, it being held by an odd-looking man.

"Heh, so you found me? You two little kids are rather young to be in a place like this." the man said seriously.

"True, we are young, however, it is our job to stop people like you!" Elda yelled at the man.

"It will be almost impossible to find it." Hiro finished for Dante.

This was a pure mess, there would be no easy way to find it.

"Do you have any ideas where it would be?" she asked her keykeeper.

"They will kill us Margaret! They know our weaknesses!" Anthea yelled, looking at Margaret.

"They will!" she yelled.

Aisling looked at Joshua, trying to comprehend what Sloth just said.

"What do you mean....? Don't tell me my father is dead! I know he isnt!" she yelled.

Sighing, Noah stood beside Elda, having his hand over his chest for a moment— his keyhole. Confronted with a Phantom Book at last, he wanted it ridden but at the same time, dreaded the process. At least, when they have to use the Bibliotheca. He let Elda speak before looking straight into the eyes of the man, himself, "Give us the book."

"Not a one." Dante admitted, kicking up the clutter in hopes to find it. Entering the next room, an ominous but otherwise not intimidating voice boomed, and the speaker gazed right into them. The being was robed and his face hidden by the shadows of it, a green eye glistening past that darkness. He lied against a wall, and despite the fact that this room was not hollow, his voice was unnatural and echoed, "...The book lies where it be quite obvious, for its context...." it snickered. "Within the maw of the voracious it lies, and within the hearts of the successful it resides. Borne from pride, it is only one of what leads its followers to die."

"They'll only kill us if we let them, Anthea! I assure you I won't." Margaret snapped, harshly pulling Anthea along with towards Aisling and I. Three others entered where they were before she and Anthea could get there.

I held Aisling's hands— once hopefully and now hopelessly as the venom injected itself into me, as well as Aisling. My body became limp and my eyes weighed down again as the mist shrouding Sloth dissolved. The being was faceless but with a nose and ears, a mouth and gone, while it had its eye sockets without a single eye. Its skin was soft and somehow...damp. It approached me, rubbing its hand against my face, its skin— of sand— residing over my eyes now. I began...falling asleep...hearing a lullaby. The sandman came for my end as a child's last thought...that the beings he thought of myth may be real...but...not as we would think.

Its voice still resonated throughout the room even without a mouth, "He knows of his and is now gone," it echoed to Aisling, approaching her as well. "As for yours—" "They are to be kept alive, Sssloth! The first of new voiced rang, as of a screech. The Faceless One wished too much its regain of speech. He overdid it." The second stated darkly, as the third came and all swarmed Sloth. The being disappeared and left behind its Phantom Book as the illusion ended with Only Aisling awake. "The Sandman is put to its eternal bed, and I believe you are obliged to burn him."The third spoke quietly as they all vanished.

"How blunt you children are." The man sighed, looking at Noah.

"If you want me to hand you over this wonderful book of Lust, you are going to have to make me, and you are also going to have to stop them..." The man muttered, then several woman appeared in front of him, however it was obvious they were phantoms.

Elda scoffed, wielding her Flamberge.

"Say Noah, just let me know when you want me to open that gate." she said to her Biblioprince.

"What kind of riddle was that?" Hiro asked with a sigh.

She looked up to Dante.

"Any plans?" she asked him.

"Okay...so we can't let them kill us. I am okay with that." Anthea said to her Keykeeper without hesitation.

She just had to keep that in mind.

Aisling looked at the three before they vanished, trying to figure out what just happened.

"Th-Thank you I guess!" she exclaimed, before turning to pick up Joshua.

"Joshua! Wake up!" she called.

"Wonderful?" Noah scoffed, stepping back from the phantoms. "Just...read the pledge whenever you deem it necessary," he told Elda, unsheathing a dagger when approached by a phantom in attempt of seduction.

"An easy riddle to solve," Dante began, "But leaving the destination...difficult." His voice became a bit...unnerved. Unsure. He glanced to the unconscious body, questioning his moral ethics for stopping a phantom. "Within the maw of the voracious... that...thing was referring to the stomach of him." He stated darkly, moving onto the next part of the 'riddle.' "As for the rest, I believe he means the sin itself, Gluttony, is within our hearts. I'll just be sure nothing leads us to death....""Good." Margaret said, bringing her into the building, nearly empty other than Joshua and Aisling. Margaret rushed to them, glad they were alive, whatever had gone in here were all gone. "You're both bitten...more than once." She grit her teeth, hoping there was no major venom in their blood already. "Come on. It's better we help Joshua with his wound if he's asleep."

  • Author

"Then I will do it now, Noah." Elda snapped, looking at her fellow companion.
"I ask of thee: art thou mankind?" Elda recited the pledge, her hand seal starting to glow and key forming in her hand.

(OH MY GOSH I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO TYPE THAT)

"So the book is in his stomach?!" Hiro asked, completely ignoring Dante's last comment.

"No way I'm getting that." she snapped, crossing her arms.

She suddenly came to a realization of Dante's next sentence.

"That shouldn't be that big of a deal, should it be?" Hiro asked.

"I know we have been bitten, but something helped us I think..." Aisling muttered, sitting Joshua down on the ground and kneeling down beside him.

"What happened to you guys?" Anthea finally spoke up.

"God only knows..." Aisling said quietly, wincing a bit because of her bites.

"..." Dante was silent, not knowing how to deal with the situation of the Phantom Book being in the man's stomach. "I...I actually...." for once Dante spoke: "I actually...know not what to do." He sighed, moving onto what he actually could answer, going back downstairs with Anthea. The thing that had given them the riddle was long since gone, and the man corrupted with gluttony lied back in the middle of the main room. "I'm not awfully worried about how it affects us, as all sins are of every man and woman, however...." He looked back to what the creature said. "We are corrupted by only one of what leads to death. I'm certain I know who else it considered with that statement....""When Anthea and I were still content with killing you and him, Aisling," Margaret began, rather darkly, "We injured you both. Joshua had...a potion of some kind and you both healed in no time, despite any shot or slice I gave you. Does he still have that?" She asked, referring to the long-since-gone Panacea. The book containing such amazement of a remedy was destroyed far before that as well.Noah turned pale as soon as Elda said she'd do it right away. He kicked away the Phantom, to no avail, and pulled his shirt down a bit so that his keyhole revealed-- his upper chest, as normal. Elda then read the pledge, and Noah fell into a trance as if within the Bibliotheca itself, a calming blue-- but an absence of everything but himself and his Key Keeper. His voice turned a bit deeper, an ominous sounding voice trying to be sincere, echoing: "Nay, I am the World. The Empty World!"

  • Author

"Meaning that we are corrupted by one of the seven sins?" Hiro asked her keykeeper, looking up at him.

"If we were possessed by one that leads to death...we would be possessed by Pride for sure. Anthea and Margaret would be wrath or even Envy, however Aisling and Joshua lie in the middle of Greed and Envy. It's rather hard to tell..." she said, thinking for a bit afterwards.

"What do you think?" Hiro asked Dante.

"The Panacea? It's gone, Joshua gave it up to that boys mother. It was almost empty anyway..." Aisling said rather sadly.

Elda smiled slightly upon hearing those words, however she is also drawn into a small trance. Her unconscious was controlling her, and she unlocked the keyhole, reaching into the Empty World's Bibliotheca, and taking a book. The Book of Purity.

"I suppose so. While I'd likely to admit to Pride as well, the Phantom was referring to what we dealt with here-- gluttony. I'm unsure as to how that will bring us our deceit, of course. We have yet to see what exactly it meant, however...." Dante looked back at the man. "We must find a way to get the Phantom Book out of him. Without killing him would be preferable....""So that's what he gave...I guess that's a little disappointing for now. We'll have to make sure nothing got into you that may kill you, Aisling, can you walk?" Margaret asked. She picked up Joshua, resting him as he clung to her shoulders almost naturally. This was probably the kindest Margaret had shown.Noah's eyes widened painfully as Elda reached into the keyhole, the pain was relentless. It didn't sting, didn't burn, didn't shock-- it simply hurt. He clearly relaxed a bit when it was over, despite the still aching pain that hung after the Book of Purity was taken. Like an infant just given a bottle or pacifier to stop their crying, Noah's pain eased, as he winced before his eyes drifted down almost tiresomely. He smiled at Elda anyway, beckoning her to read the book.

"I'm not cutting him open with you if that is what you're thinking..." she said quickly afterwards.

"I'm guessing..." Aisling muttered, glaring at Margaret as soon as she grabbed onto Joshua.

"You better be careful with him, he's fragile." she snapped.

"We'll be careful!" Anthea exclaimed.

Elda looked at Noah rather sadly after she opened the book. However, her attention went straight back to the Phantom Book, and she began to read.

"Having lost the key to the gate of Eden, my heart, being reprimanded; walks into the night's maze. Never to be forgiven by the King of Thorn, bound forever in chains. I sought after eternity, and entombed my love." Elda paused for a second.

"If I could, I would return to that time...that time where I could stay pure. However, casting no doubt, I embraced your bosom and fell asleep...like back in our youthful days. You were all I had, I wasn't able to give anything. I was powerless." Most of the Phantoms have vanished by now, however one remained.

"We can always meet each other..." You would say to me, I not noticing the pain you held in. Do not look at me, I am sullied and broken. Our bond is my black requiem. Do not come here, do not find out...in this world full of downpour and despair." The last remaining Phantom had taken form of the man's wife, who appeared dead.

"Casting no doubt, I embraced your bosom and fell asleep...like back in the peaceful days. You were all I had, and I could not repay you. I was imprisoned in darkness. I was a captured prisoner." The book finished, and the woman in front of the man died, leaving the man in tears.

"That was your wife, wasn't it? Your wife died because of a sickness and you turned your life to sex, and then was possessed by the book of Lust. However, the book is gone now, there is nothing you can do." Elda explained.

The man simply shook his head in disbelief of the two.

(That entire book reading is actually the Dantalian no Shoka ending, Yes, Prisoner.)

(Yes, I know...I use it for a bit of representation on a few of my characters here....)"Unfortunately, Hiro," Dante began hesitantly, "That is all I can think of doing." He looked out, as if past the door. "I, however, know incredibly little of any surgical operation. While I know someone who does...we cannot afford to trust him."Margaret laughed. "Joshua's a feather. It's fine, I got him." She beckoned Anthea and Aisling to follow as she headed out the empty room towards the motorcycle. The problem was figuring where to go to get mended for their two wounds.

Noah stood up, somewhat painfully, imminently covering his keyhole again, looking at the man with pity. "Come on Elda. And there's no way I'm going back through that place again," he said with disgust, grabbing the nearest thing he saw, not caring what it was, and chucking it at a nearby window, breaking it. Leading outside, Noah took the Phantom Book and began heading out before they would be heard and seen by anyone else.

"We are not trusting Isaac. If that is who you are talking about." Hiro snapped.

"I am not trusting him at all. We could always use the Bibliotheca to get it out you know." She said seriously. (Has Hiro even opened her bibliotheca in this roleplay?)

Aisling followed Margaret, Anthea beside Aisling.

"Are you okay, Aisling?" She asked.

Aisling looked at Anthea.

"Does it look like it?" Aisling asked rather rudely.

Anthea shook her head and Aisling glared at her.

"Exactly." She snapped.

Elda followed Noah out the window, quickly catching up with him.

"Are you okay, Noah?" She asked, looking at him.
