As soon as the situation had cleared, Spore, Gayle, Berin want to the teleport gate. They arrived in the start town of the second floor. Spore got his map out. "They've got us an inn room. I think we

The corners of Spore's mouth curled up slightly. "Perhaps. It seems Sikota is quite the charmer." The group returned to the village, found an inn, and rested for the night. And that was the first day.

(and thus it dies for the next week or so)

(Perhaps. Or we can jump forward in time and do the first floor boss tomorrow.)

Spore got up and stretched himself. It had been three weeks now, and they were all still alive. He looked around at the slumbering forms of his friends in the inn room they were sharing. He always woke the earliest, so it had fallen to him to prepare breakfast. Spore equipped his portable grill, took out a few eggs, some boar meat, and a pan, and prepared some lovely scrambled eggs with meat. If only he could find cheese, then he could make omelets. The smell of the cooking food wafted over the room. As he waited for his friends to wake up, Spore contemplated the two things that had come up yesterday: the skills he had found in his list of possible skills, and the prospect of creating a guild.

Sikota rose. He sniffed the air of the room. "Smells good, Spore." He halted. Something was off. He ran across the room and threw open the window. "Hey!" He jumped out and chased the mysterious figure that had been looming above them.

Spore's head snapped around as Sikota leaped out the window. He ran to the opening and looked out. Sikota was chasing some strange figure across the street of the town they were in. Spore didn't waste time. He quickly stowed the food and cooking equipment and woke up Severa and Aelan. "Get up! We have company!" Spore shook them till they were awake, then leaped out the window himself. This brought him onto the roof of the inn. He looked around, spotted a quick flash of brown cape. Spore run forward, jumped, reached the next roof. This one slanted downward, toward the street and the chase. Spore stepped onto his blade, using it like a snowboard to slide down the roof right in front of the mysterious figure. The blade came up to point at the figure's heart. "Who are you!? What were you doing outside our window!?"

The mysterious figure's hood fell. Despite the masculine apparel, the figure's face would describe otherwise. She had short, white, rather tomboyish hair but she was definitely a girl. "M-My name's Gayle and I was trying to get some food for me and my friend."

Now Spore felt bad. He lowered his sword. The girl was obviously telling the truth. His face softened. Spore opened his inventory, took out the egg-and-meat almost-omelettes, and handed them to Gayle. "Can you take us to your friends?" Severa and Aelan dashed up. Aelan looked at the food being passed. There goes my breakfast, he thought.

Gayle led the group across town. This was the first time she was ever caught. These two seemed to be an exceptional pair of players. The one who had caught her especially noble. "Maybe you ought to return the favor." She said. "Who are you?"

"My name is Spore." Spore didn't feel like he needed to say more. That was all he had been asked, anyway. Spore opened his inventory again, taking out four loaves of bread. He passed them out to his party. "This will be our breakfast." Aelan grumbled a bit as he grabbed his bread. Severa took hers without complaining.

Fine by me. Sikota took the bread and took a large bite. After chewing for a while, he swallowed. "So, Gayle, what level ar ya'?"

At that, Severa hit him in the side of the head. "You can't just ask people stuff like that!"

"13.” Gayle replied nonchalantly.

Severa halted. She was only level seven. Aelan was eight whilst Spore and Sikota were nine. "Thir-thirteen?!"

"Barin and I have been working hard for the past few days."

"Hm... Okay then, I'd like to meet this Barin." Sikota commented.

Gayle smiled, the first emotions she's showed yet. "Where do you think I'm taking you?"

So Gayle was level thirteen. Maybe they could take on tougher monsters with these two in the party. I'll pop the question when we meet this Berin. Working so hard and yet lacking in food? "So how did you come to have no food? You could easily have bought some with the Cor you were earning." It did strike Spore as odd that they wouldn't have done that. There must be something she isn't telling us.

"There's a group of ruffians." Gayle replied. "Lots of them. Baron and I are strong but they outnumber us."

"HOLD!!" The group turned to see a silver haired man clad in shining armor. "Who are you four and what business do you have with Gayle?"

"We're here to help." Sikota replied.

"Then prove yourself in battle!" He drew his broadsword.

Sikota hesitated. "Spore, you take him." He said, moving his friend in front of him.

"Hey, what-" Spore exclaimed as he was thrust toward the menacing blade. He looked at the frowning face of Berin the knight. Spore's blade was already bared, considering he didn't use a scabbard. He brought it to bear in front of him as he stepped back several feet. Berin brought up his player menu and selected duel, then Spore's name. The challenge appeared in front of Spore. Spore looked through the options: traditional, timed, one-strike. Traditional gave Berin the advantage, as his heavy armor would cause him to take less damage than Spore. Timed was no good either, for the same reason. One-strike it would be. Spore accepted the duel and took a ready stance. The start timer counted down. . .

Berin held his sword behind him, his sword becoming engulfed in a light blue aura as his Skill was ready to counter whatever Spore had to throw at him.

Spore saw Berin assume a defensive starting stance. He wanted Spore to perform the first attack. Spore's mouth curled at the corners. He stayed in his starting stance, daring Berin to make the first attack. In Spore's head, the seconds were ticking down. Ten seconds until it activates, I have to survive till then. Here's hoping this stance thing does what it's supposed to do.

Berin stood patiently. "Not going to move? Fine." The blue light on his blade flashed white and he dashed forward, swinging upward.

Five seconds. Spore knew he couldn't block that sword skill. Not yet anyway. Spore dashed forward as well. Right before contact would be made, he ducked down and slid under and past Berin. As he was doing so, he brought his blade around in a swipe at the blue knight.

Spore had miscalculated, his measly strike was completely deflected by the powerful skill, disarming him and knocking him off course of his slide. Berin walked around and faced his fallen opponent. "Take up your blade and continue. I will not land the One Strike on a downed opponent."

"We'll, that's very noble of you," Spore mocked. He picked up his weapon. The stance had activated. Spore smirked. "Let's try that same thing again, and see if there is a different outcome." With that, Spore rushed forward, bringing his blade in an upward thrust. The attack struck with surprising force. Berin was knocked back slightly, but he had blacked the blow. "Wondering how my power just increased? A little something called the Swordsman Stance. My parrying, disarming, and recovery speeds have been doubled."

  • Author

"Then lets see how much that will fare against a stronger opponent!" His sword drawn back, Berin's blade become engulfed in white once again. "This will decide it!" He lunged.

Spore calmly brought his blade up, in the same upward thrust he had just done, but with one crucial difference. Whereas before the edge of the sword was toward Berin, this time it was perpendicular to him, and it was aimed at the cross guard of Berin's sword. The blades came together with a great crash. As they did, Spore shifted the weight of his sword, stepping forward in the process. Berin's sword was torn from his hands. Spore brought his sword around in a swipe across Berin. Duel over.

Berin stood and drank a potion. His health recovered immediately. "Perfect." He said. "A group led by someone as exceptional as you would be perfect to help us."

"Only if you help us." Spore sent Gayle and Berin an invite to the party. "We could use a couple more strong players like you two. It will also max our party size." The two accepted the invites. "Now tell me, what's going on with these 'ruffians'?"

  • Author

"Why don't you ask them yourself?" Gayle said, pointing past Spore and Berin. There, a group of burly players, clad in pelts made there way toward them.

"Time for taxes, Berin." The leader declared.

"Wrong, Garrik!" The knight declared. "For now, you face all six of us."

Garrik stepped back. "We're backin' out for now, boys." He told his troops. They turned and left.

"Spore you're so strong!" Gayle declared, glomping her hero. She quickly got off, adjusting her scarf and cloak. "Sorry." She turned away, hiding her reddening face.
