What in the-? Then it was over. Spore hid his face deeper in his hood. Hero? He wasn't eying to be any hero. He didn't even do anything to stop the robbers. "Taxes? That's horrible, forcing taxes on people. Don't they understand we all need to work together."

"He's right." Sikota commented. "There's strength in numbers. If-" He was cut off by a passing player. "They found it! They found the boss! They found it!"

All went silent... The brutal reality that everyone would have to face such a powerful foes a hundred times over before getting home set back in.

"The first boss..." Sikota muttered. "We need to plan." He directed the group to the nearest inn, quickly payed for a large room and everyone seated themselves around a table. "We need to plan." He repeated, looking for ideas.

Aelan went slightly pale. "Took long enough. We can beat it no problem." Everyone knew they were empty words.

Severa got a resolved look on her face. "It took almost two months. If it takes this long to clear a floor, then how long are we going to be trapped here?"

The shadows in Spore's hood seemed to darken. "Sixteen years. Almost seventeen. I hope we speed things up a bit." A warmthless smile yawned on Spore's face, not that anybody could see it. It was a joke, but not a funny one. They entered the inn. A plan. "Can we even plan for this? One party, even a party of six, couldn't defeat a boss by themselves. We need to work with multiple groups. Let's go look for a meeting. There's bound to be one forming."

"Hold, friend!" Berin declared. "We can't let any other lives be taken."

Sikota stood. "His words ring with truth. It is twilight now, but when dawn comes, we'll send Gayle to get our information, and leave for the Boss Room ourselves. Dismissed." He left for one of the inn's bedrooms. Soon followed by Berin, Gayle, adm Severa, leaving Aelan and Spore left.

"I'm not sure how I feel about this..."

"I know. Doesn't he understand that more people means less of a chance somebody will die?" Spore scowled in his hood. He turned to Sikota. "I'm going hunting. You should come. Just you and me."

"Go yourself," Sikota replied. "I'm resting up."

"All right. I won't stop you." Spore walked away, through the darkening streets of the town. This was his favorite time, the time when the lines between light and darkness were blurred. Many monster spawns were unique to this time of evening. His friends didn't know it, but his level was actually about as high as Gayle and Berin, due to his evening training. Spore walked through the town gate and entered the field. The waning light of a set sun glinted off his naked blade.

The group stood amongst the shadows of the forest path as a small army of other players passed by.

"Looks like someone has us beat." Sikota said.

A hooded Gayle returned from scouting. "It seems their plan is to split up into a number of groups to switch in and out to fight the boss while the others work in pairs to fend off the boss's sentinels."

"Interesting..." Sikota replied. "Spore, you're the more prominent thinker, what say you?"

(We're still doing this thing, right?)

(Of course we're still doing this!)

Spore looked at the group ahead. This is better, having a large group of people instead of just our party. But Spore didn't voice that, for fear of upsetting Berin. "It's really the only thing we can do. Mobbing the boss all at once means people will take more damage. True, the boss would go down much quicker, but that tactic doesn't let people recover. This one takes a little longer, but is much safer." Spore turned to Sikota. "We should offer to join the raid group."

Sikota sighed. "I'm will not offer parley on a day like this. We'll wait until the commotion starts and swoop in to lend a helping hand unnoticed. Amongst the chaos, they won't be able to deny our assistance."

Severa nodded in agreement. "Frankly, I like that plan a lot more than the possibility of them saying no."

Aelan spoke up. "It's hardly likely the would deny assistance. Even before the fight, I think they would let us join them."

"But, if you all feel so strongly about it, we can bide our time." Spore put in. Spore didn't like confrontations, aside from duels, and that included within his party. We can't afford to do things in a dictatorial fashion, Spore thought. "So, anyway, what do you all think about what we talked about a couple nights ago? The guild thing."

"We'll cross that bridge when we get to it." Gayle said quickly. "They've reached the boss by now."

"We move!" Sikota declared dashing down the path with the women of the party right behind him.

"Ugh, fine!" Spore sprinted forward to catch up with the group. He had always been a sprinter, but not much for distance. Fortunately, this world allowed him to go for much longer than the real one.

The six players soon reached the opened boss room. "Nice formation." Sikota observed. "Alright, we'll blend in for now and work in pairs, one person deflects the attacks, the other strikes, it is now our job to keep the Sentinels off the main raids back." I glanced behind me to see the small army facing off against a giant, fat, red... Kobold, apparently. "Aelan, Berin, you two are together. Severa, you're with me. Sporus, Gayle. I wish you all the best of luck." He ran off into the fray with his partner

"Let's go. I'll block." Spore dashed forward with Gayle at his side. The group got some surprised looks from the fighters, but they quickly resumed their attention to the boss. A Sentinel was spawning to the left. "That one!" Spore ran up to it. The Sentinel brought its mace down over its head in an arc, one that was stopped by Spore's thrusting parry. Spore followed the block with a few quick strikes, then: "Switch!" Spore flipped backward, pushing off the Sentinel and knocking it backward. An "All right!" and some vicious cuts to the Sentinel was Gayle's response. The Sentinel burst. "Nice job, but there are more. Keep going!" The pair dashed off to find another Sentinel.

Severa blocked the strike from the Sentinel and knocked it's mace aside. "Switch!"

Sikota's blade pointed at hid opponent, its hilt held beside his face. he lunged at the Sentinel in a burst of light, tearing right through it. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a hooded girl with a weapon not too different from his. Sikota used his momentum to get behind her opponent and eliminate it with a few quick slashes from behind. I shot her a wink before re-entering the fray alongside Severa.

Berin swung his greatsword in a huge upward arc, nearly knocking the mace out of a Sentinel's claws. Aelan was close behind, bring his greatax down on the Sentinel's head, cleaving it from head to toe. Suddenly, a menacing growl rocked the chamber, followed by two clangs. The boss had thrown its ax and buckler away and was moving its hand towards the grip of a large blade slung around its waist. A quick check of its HP showed it was close to defeat. "Looks like the king is just about dethroned." Spore smiled at his own cheesy joke.

All hell suddenly broke loose. The boss was close to defeat, but more powerful than ever. Everyone was ready to retreat. But two players stood strong. The girl from before had lost her cloak revealing long auburn hair and a rather pretty face; and who unfortunately seemed to be her partner, some dark-haired boy. Sikota stood in awe as the two of them tore the boss apart.

When it was finally over, the victory was short-lived. With the death of the raid's leader, distrust was stirring. Sikota gestured Severa over as he walked over to Spore and Gayle; Berin and Aelan were close buy. "We're leaving. Gayle, you listen in; Spore, Berin, keep her safe in case people start infighting. Severa, Aelan, with me. Quickly and quietly." The three of them stealthily made there way to the door. They were unnoticed when the teleport activated.

"Beater"

The word rang through Sikota's head as he dissolved into the next floor.

As soon as the situation had cleared, Spore, Gayle, Berin want to the teleport gate. They arrived in the start town of the second floor. Spore got his map out. "They've got us an inn room. I think we should regroup and rest." Many thoughts cycled through Spore's head, especially about that dark-haired boy. Spore had seen him before. More than once. And he doubted it would be the last time.

Severa skid down the mountainside. "Looks like the town's located in some kind of crater. Seems to be about half a kilometer wide."

"With scouting like yours, I think we can drop Gayle." Sikota said, laughing.

Aelan was unentertained. "We should find the others." He said bluntly.

Sikota sighed. "Welcome to Urbus." He led the trio back into town."

Spore closed his map and led the group to the large crater the town was in. "Urbus." he said to the other two. Berin looked down the crater. "Hardly a good place to build a town." he commented. Gayle remained silent with her hood up, so nobody would notice her staring at Spore's back. Spore kept his hood up too, out of principle. They made their way into town. "Gayle, why don't you try to track where our party has gone. It will be good to raise a skill." "O-okay!" Gayle blushed under her cloak. "They went. . . That way!" She took the lead and led them through the winding streets.

Sikota, Aelan, and Severa soon encountered the rest of their party.

"Hey there, everybody! How goes it?"

"The one boy who killed the boss was a beta-tester. One who cheated." Berin said this, and spat with disgust. Spore hid a distasteful look at Berin in his cloak. He had never enjoyed hating people. "Let's just find an inn and rest. We go hunting tomorrow. I'd like to see what monsters spawn in this area." That was Spore. "But I'm going to the market first, so you guys go ahead of me." With that, Spore detached from the group and started walking down the street. Gayle took a step after him, but then decided to let him go by himself.

(Make something interesting happen in the market.)

Sikota smiled on the inside, admiring Gayle's loyalty to Spore. "I'll message him soon enough." He told everyone, mostly to reassure Gayle. "Berin, show some respect. Everyone's a player. Everyone plays by this world's rules. You of all people should know the price of power."

Berin had nothing to say.

Severa glared at their leader. Maybe someone else had to learn some respect of their own.

Aelan, tired of the tension led the party towards the inn.

As Spore was approaching the market, an auburn haired girl accidentally crashed into him. "Sorry." She cried. She reached down to pick up her fallen merchandise.
