Spore's opponent held it's blade backhand. The sword wasn't too long, but wasn't necessarily short either. It charged without a word, quickly switching to a forehand grip and lunging at Spore.

Spore stood stock-still, and as the blade neared, parried with his stance-improved sword behind his back. The force of the lunge carried his opponent past, sparks screeching off steel. Even by the light of the sparks, he could not tell who his challenger was. Spore whipped his blade around and made a passing attack at his opponent's back.

Spore's challenger yelped and ducked. It was either a girl, or an adolescent boy.

She returned to a backhand grip and brought it up attempting to slash Spore's midsection.

Spore held his blade low and parried, the blow ringing off his weapon. Then he crouched and leaped past his opponent's right side, performed a neat turnaround, and lunged at the person's back. At the last second, he dropped into a roll, got right underneath his foe, and brought his sword up to slash them across the stomach.

Spore's opponent attempted to spin away but the blade caught her waist and cut through her. She yelped at the pain somewhat dulled by the system and fell to the ground having lost her balance. The results of the duel flashed before the two of them.

Spore held out his hand to help the person up. He was almost certain he had fought a girl, but he still couldn't tell in the low light. I should work on getting my night vision higher, he thought.

Gayle ignored Spore's offer, standing up on her own. She removed her hood and looked back to her party member.

"You're really strong, Spore." She said, smiling meekly, hiding her sadness.

"Gayle! Why didn't you tell me it was you?" Spore was genuinely surprised. He couldn't think of a reason why Gayle would follow him out at night. Oh, wait. Maybe he could. Spore hid a slight reddening of his cheeks in his hood.

(Spam the 1x1 during math? I like it)

"I just wanted to test myself." Gayle lied. "Baron and I've been pretty strong throughout the first floor. I didn't want you going easy on me and I... I wanted to see if I was strong enough to protect you." Her face fell. "But it seems you'll do just fine..."

"Well. . ." Spore hesitated, rubbing the back of his head with his hand. He didn't know what to say. "We can protect each other. How about that?" He knew it was a weak response, but he was at a total loss on what to do with this kind of thing. Girls. What are they good for?

(In a word: children)

Gayle's expression lit up. She nodded excitedly. "Right!" She made began to head back to the inn, hugging Spore as she passed him. "Thanks, Spore." She quickly let go and ran off, her face burning up.

Spore almost fell over as Gayle released him. Why was this girl interested in him? "Uh- Have a good night." he called after her. He turned away, scanning for more monsters to fight.

The sun had set. Everyone returned to bed. Sikota awoke at dawn, sneaking out while everyone was catching up on sleep. When darkness was falling back, though light was still weak, particular monsters came about, this was Sikota's time. He drew his sword. The farming began. After some time, a notification appeared before him, he had leveled up. Level 15. At least five more and he'd consider himself ready for the boss. As it currently stood though, he was still rather overpowered.

"Hey!" Sikota turned to see Severa.

"Morning!" He replied, smiling. She seemed angry. Sikota gulped mentally.

(She's all yours, Nei)

"So this is what you do every morning. Come out here and, and selfishly raise your own level!" Severa stared with eyes that looked angered, hurt. Betrayed, even. "I thought you cared about the team. I - I thought you. . ." Tears came to her eyes, and she turned around furiously.

"S-Severa I-" Sikota didn't know what to say, this was completely unlike the Severa he knew. "Severa, I do care." He said, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I care about the team, I care about you. I can't have any of you dying on me. So I need to be strong enough to protect you all."

"And then who will protect you?" she sobbed, rounding on Sikota. "You'll get in over your head because you'll think you can do anything and then you'll. . . You'll. . . Die. . . And then I don't know what I'd. . ." She broke off, tears streaming down her cheeks. She swayed as if she were going to fall.

Sikota sighed and placed his middle finger against Severa's forehead. He ticked his index finger under his thing and activated his skill. The flicked her, releasing an orange burst and knocking her off her feet. He watched her HP drop by a fractional amount. "I know my limits." He said seriously. "You're way below them. I'm going to keep you all safe. If you want to return the favor, then you're going to have to work for it." He turned and began to walk away.

Did he really just do that to me? Did he really just say that? Severa stopped crying as Sikota began walking away. She set her jaw, turned on her heel, and began walking back to the inn. Her face burned and she had a scowl on her face, and she was clenching her fists.
