Tales of Symphia is the Most Popular Tales Game

Posted

Tales of Symphonia producer Hideo Baba has revealed to Destructiod that Tales of Symphonia for the Gamecube was the most popular Tales game in the West. Baba believes that the success of the game was due to the fact that it was the first Tales title that was rendered in 3D polygons. Baba also revealed that the development team had a lot of help from Nintendo which allowed them to reach out to a broader audience.

“I believe the success of Tales of Symphonia has multiple factors to it, the first being that it was the first Tales title that was rendered in 3D polygons, so we believe that was a huge component to its success.”

“Another huge component was that we had a lot of support from Nintendo, so that allowed us to reach out to a broader audience that we weren’t able to reach before.”

DragonMaster is going to love this news.

Why is it that the most popular Tales of game in the west was the hardest for me to find a good online guide for? I found complete guides for Abyss and Vesperia that included every single optional thing/side-quest as it became available. I have to switch between four different tabs for Symphonia. T_T

Besides that, its a pretty good game. I liked all the main characters, and the story was good. I wasn't too fond of the game-play, but that's probably just because I played Abyss/Vesperia first.

Yeah I played Symphia as well but it's not my first Tales of game though. My first Tales game that i actually played was Abyss on the PS2 and I really loved the story and battle system and the anime cutscenes. Luke and tear are among my favorite Tales couple along with Asbel and Cheria, Hubert and Pascal, and Jude and Milla (even though Milla is 20 and Jude is 15). But yeah, Tales of Symphonia is awesome and I kinda liked the gameplay in that one. Though Graces and Abyss are my favorite in terms of gameplay. Cannot wait to try out Xillia's gameplay.

I'm not gonna lie, I thought it was the only Tales game...

Abyss was the best imo

This game introduced my to the Tales serie(it was a loooooooooong time ago),but back then I didn't knew that it was a serie,I though it was the only game of the serie and when they release the sequel on the Wii,I though it was the 2nd "Tales" game and at the end of 2012 a friend show me Tales of the Abyss on 3DS and he told me the the "Tales" serie had a lot more then Tales of Symponia.

By the way,did anyone here play the sequel on Wii of Tales of Symphonia? If so,is it good?

That reminds me, Symphonia needed more anime cutscenes! It only had around four. Abyss and Vesperia both had around ten IIRC. To be honest, I would love it if there were even more than that in the games.

I feel like all I'm doing is complaining. Symphonia was definitely a great game. The OVA was absolutely gorgeous as well, even if I had to watch it in low quality on YouTube.

It's alright. There is no free exploring on the world map, you just choose your desired town/dungeon and it teleports you there. Your permanent party consists of the two main characters, and most of the time the rest is comprised of monsters you recruit to your team. You do get to have characters from the first game join your party, but normally only one or two at a time. Also, the original Symphonia characters can only go up to level 50, Marta/Emil can go to 200. The game-play is more like Abyss/Vesperia than the original Symphonia (ie. it has free run). The story is okay, but it feels kinda tacked on and is somewhat retconned in. The game is also much shorter, it only took about 30 hours for me to beat, while Symphonia took 60.

The skits are voiced and Tenebrae is awesome.

Tails reporting on Tales. lol

Anyway, my favorites were Symphonia and Abyss, so I'm content with this.

I am not really surprised. I've heard that this is the most well known one though I've never played it myself.

I can see why its awesome. It was my first as well and by then my only RPG was Pokemon. Its storyline and battle system blew my mind. Ive played Abyss and currently playing Vesperia but they dont seem to match the charm. I had issues with Abyss until i understand its battle system and slightly complicated storyline. Vesperia's combat is sweet but I'm probably in the middle of the game so I can't judge the storyline yet.
