Iron Man 3 Review (No, Not Me. NGS. Who Else?)

Posted

Well, I had no idea M. Night Shama Llama Sama Kun was directing this movie...

That sucks. It really does. I didn't even see the trailers for the Mandarin until recently, but I can tell you, that is one of the sole reasons I want to see this movie now... though regarding the, uh... little diddy that transpired... I may be having second thoughts.

Somehow, I kinda feel the same way about how the Dark Knight Rises ended. That's actually spot on to what's going on in this movie... why do I have the feeling that this is going to be a trend? -_- I hope not.

Wolverine in Japan is nothing new, he's gone their alot in the comics, and what's wrong with Foxx as Electro.

This.

Having never read a comic book in my life and therefore knowing nothing about the Mandarin, I thought the plot twist was absolutely brilliant. The trailers make you believe the Mandarin is the ultimate villain, but no, it's just a ploy. Fantastic! Awesome. People complain that it doesn't follow comic book lore, but I honestly couldn't care less. I thought the film was great.

... really? Really? Really?

I don't even...

Thank goodness for forums, because I need somewhere to voice my utter outrage at this movie, but first, let me give you a little backstory. Iron Man is one of my favorite movies, The Incredible Hulk was decent, miles beyond that boring 2003 Hulk, Iron Man 2: I know a lot of people didn't like it, but I do. I even made a thread saying that I liked it over the first one, though after seeing the Avengers, that's not true anymore, but I still like it. Thor was a surprisingly good movie, and Captain America: TFA is also one of my favorite movies. The Avengers is the best superhero movie ever made, and Iron Man 3 sucked hard. How could Shane Black do this to my favorite character in this franchise? Where do I begin? First, The Mandarin. That plot twist. In every review I saw, people were saying that this plot twist will piss off comic book fans, but I don't read comic books, so I thought people were just complaining the same way people were complaining that Heath Ledger's Joker wasn't exactly like Mark Hamill's, but the makers of this movie had to have been high to think that this was going to fly. I will admit that on an objective, technical level, it was kinda funny in a practical joke, April Fool's joke kinda way, but they had to have known that this was gonna piss people off. Think about your favorite superhero movie. Now imagine they did this twist with the villain from those movies. Imagine they did this with The Joker, Bane, or Loki, then you can see why this pisses me off. While watching this movie, I was already thinking that this movie wasn't taking itself seriously, but that twist was just a big joke, and a slap in the face to any fans of these movies, whether you enjoyed the twist or not. Say what you will about TDKR, but even with the poorly handled plot twist with Talia, it was still a good movie. I was in the middle of the Avengers vs. TDKR war, happily defending the Avengers, but I have to be honest. I think TDKR is way better than Iron Man 3. Second, the action. In all honesty, all of the Iron Man movies have less Iron Man and more Tony Stark, but it worked in the first two because in the first one, he was developing his armor, and in the second one, there where more action scenes, but they were short, but sweet. In this movie, it seems like an excuse to have Tony out of the armor so that Shane can write more pretentious witty dialogue that he wishes was half as good as Joss Whedon's in the Avengers. Everyone is written to be either a douchebag or an idiot, with tedious diologue that slows the pacing of the movie. Yes Rebecca Hall, you should be worried about that giant missile that's headed right for your face! If you haven't guessed, I'm not much of a fan of Shane Black's writing, and I watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang to prepare for this movie, and I thought it was decent, but that was a comedy. The tone is all wrong in this movie. This isn't an Iron Man movie. This is Kiss Kiss Bang Bang 2: Kiss Kiss Explosion Explosion. All of the major action scenes: missiles at his house, people falling out of the airplane, and the army of armors, were all shown in the trailers, and were predictible. Third, plotholes. If Tony had that suit army and can call them from anywhere in the world, why couldn't he defend his house from the attack? If The Mandarin was just an actor, why didn't no one recognoze him on TV? How was the bad guys able to steal the Iron Patriot armor? Even in the trailers, we can clearly see all of his suits being destroyed, so where did the suit army come from? If Rhodey wasn't able to use one of the suits because they were "only coded to Tony", how was he able to save Pepper? If Pepper was able to survive an explosion because she had the Extremis virus, how was Tony able to kill Aldrich by self-destructing the armor? And on that note, why didn't Tony go to jail for killng people? If there was a way to take the shrapnel out of Tony's chest, why couldn't they do it before? What was Aldrich's plan? Why did he even need to use The Mandarin as a distraction? Why did Tony need Rhodey to give him the password for armor that he built? What was the point of getting Mark Ruffalo for an end credits scene, and why was he pretending to be a psychiatrist? And why was Tony dancing when he has PTSD? What is he so happy about? This movie is stupid. The showing I was planning to see it at was sold out, and I had to see it in 3D, and it wasn't even that good. I forgot the glasses I was wearing was supposed to make stuff pop out, but it didn't. I paid $11 dollars to see this crappy movie and it was not worth even 11 cents. I was so excited for this movie, but it was just a disappointment. I was excited for Phase 2, but now I'm terrified. Is Thor 2 gonna suck? Is Captain America 2 gonna suck? Is Guardians of the Galaxy gonna suck? Is Joss Whedon gonna drop the ball on Avengers 2? I mean, not even Christopher Nolan was able to top TDK. And not just those. Is Wolverine gonna suck? We all know what happened last time. Don't we, Deadpool? Is Man of Steel gonna suck? Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder couldn't possible make a Superman movie worse than Superman Returns, could they? Then again, I didn't think it was possible to make a bad Iron Man movie, but Shane Black found a way. Joss Whedon was able to make Avengers undeniable Joss Whedon, but still true to the characters and the universe that was set up. Why could Shane Black make this movie undeniably his, without making it a sequel to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (stupid name, by the way) just because you have the same actor? I hate this movie. I hate what Shane Black has done with my favorite movie franchise. If that's not an "S", but a "symbol of hope", then I "hope" Man of Steel can make up for this crap.

Then tell me that Batman can have flying ponies in his movies and no one would bat an eye. TELL ME. -__-

thats not what i was getting at in the slightest

It's saying that superhero movies can, I don't know, be fun or lighthearted and about the goofy things that superheroes firetrucking do.

You know, like the old Batman show with Adam West in it.  Campy, fun, and pretty memorable to this day.

Not every superhero movie has to be OH MY GOSH SO DARK AND SERIOUS!!!!  Take itself too seriously, the really cheesy, goofy parts of being a superhero really start to show.

You know, like Christian Bale's Batman voice.

I agree, but my main problem with Iron Man 3 was that it didn't take itself seriously enough. You can tell Shane Black didn't give a damn about the Marvel Cinematic Universe or even Iron Man in general.

I KNOW THE MANDARIN DROVE ME MAD

Okay, so I've just seen the movie with my own eyes, from start to finish...

I... I... I can't even put into words... how pissed I am. I can't.

I would go on about a rant... but you know what? I don't need to. The movie speaks for itself. I don't need to waste my energy typing out why this movie is both a) a slap in the face to true Iron Man fans, and b) a giant pile of doo-doo of a movie in general.

Ladies and gentleman, Iron Man 3 just knocked off Spider Man 3 on being the DragonBall: Evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Good F**KING job, Black. Good f**king job.

Although I don't like Tony Stark the character too much, I really enjoyed the movie.

Aaaaand saw trailers for the next Thor movie! <333

From what I hear the fans of the comics disliked it and majority of everyone else liked it.

Exactly my point.

From what I hear the fans of the comics disliked it and majority of everyone else liked it.

This is absolutely correct. I'm casual when it comes to comics, and enthusiastic when it comes to film, and I loved the hell out of it.

DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE TO PEOPLE WHO ENJOYED IT, COMIC FANS.

Just because you're pissed that they changed things, don't try to put other people down for enjoying it. We have different opinions, and I really don't want this to become a shitstorm. Don't shove a stick up other peoples ass just because you've been butthurt. No one has displayed this particular dickery yet, and I'd like to keep it that way. This is a preemptive strike. Hate on the film if you want, but don't hate on the people who liked it.

I honestly liked it, a lot. I feel it was better than the first two. Hardcore fans of any franchise are hair trigger type people. Naturally, the big reveal alone made them go into full ape mode.

The movies are a parallel universe to the comics, so things will be different, that's how I see it. The comics themselves have a ton of parallel universes within.

How seriously the hardcore fans have taken it, however, just blows my mind. I just can't wrap my head around letting oneself get so worked up over a movie. Then again, the Star Wars crowd is a lot worse. I've made it a rule for myself to stay as far away as possible from Star Wars hardcore fans. I heard they practice cannibalism now.

Oh well, to each his own. I just hope this thread doesn't blow up into some sorta flame war.
