So, if this isn't the correct section for this post, feel free to move it, Mods.

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you could help me? See, I bought the third DVD of Puella Magi Madoka Magica a little bit ago, and for the most part everything was fine... except when I got to the last episode, it would skip a lot, and sometimes wouldn't even play at all. So, like any other person would, I inspected the DVD, and tried to clean it for fingerprints (and keep in mind the DVD was brand spanking new when I bought it, so it hardly should have got damaged during its first use). However, that seemed to make it worse, so that episode eleven wouldn't work, either, and sometimes the whole DVD wouldn't!

Oddly enough, though, it did work on my PS3 perfectly, but there were also other DVD players I tested it with, and they wouldn't play it all together. Even weirder: there are days when the DVD seems to be working better (like it plays the first three episodes without a problem on that first DVD player, anyway). But no matter what I do (except for when I use the PS3), the last episode never plays right.

Now this is where it gets weird. I bought the DVD again, and watched it over at my friend's house, and it went off without a hitch. Now that I'm trying it on that same DVD player from before, though (the one that originally wouldn't play episode twelve and started this mess), the SAME EXACT THING IS HAPPENING. This is just spooky. How in the world are both of the DVDs doing this, unless there's something wrong with ALL the disc threes created? And like I said before, it worked perfectly well on my friend's DVD player. Anyway, I haven't tried to clean the DVD this time (and once again, it shouldn't need it, because it's pretty much new), and I haven't tried it anywhere else (mainly because I'm afraid to touch the damn thing at this point), but I wonder if the same outcome would happen on my PS3 and the other DVD players again. So does anyone have any idea what's going on here? Have you had a similar thing happen to you before (maybe even with Madoka, specifically the last disc)? Do you think it's just really weird, bad luck? Do you think both discs (hell, maybe even all versions of it) are messed up? Do you think it's the DVD player? What can I do? This was my favorite disc, too, and-- gah! This is like a freakin' nightmare. Maybe I'll just wake up and realize this was all a bad dream. But if you could give me any help, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm seriously about to pull my hair out in frustration, and I don't want to buy a THIRD version of this DVD, in the off chance it would work. At this point, I half expect it to behave exactly the same way. -sigh-

Oh! And I suppose I should mention it's the Aniplex English version (that also has the Japanese dub w/ English subtitles) that's doing this.

It's the DVD player.  I've had the same thing happen before.  Some DVD players are better at reading discs than others, and I find PS3 to be superior than most players.  If you have a PS3, then just watch it on the PS3.  It's not really worth getting a whole new DVD player if your only having problems with one DVD.

That's what I was thinking it was. Thank you so much for responding and telling me :D I was starting to fear I was just never supposed to have a working version of this DVD or something. LOL. Knowing it's just the DVD player makes life so much better! I'll just have to watch it on my PS3 from now on. It sucks, though, because that means I have to watch it on my smaller and non-HDTV. I'd play my PS3 on the HDTV, but for some weird reason the sound from the games/console work, but there's no picture with it. You don't happen to know why that might be, do you? ^_^

Thanks again for the help!

Usually when you switch TVs with a PS3, you have to change the video settings.  The easy way to do this is to hook it up to the HDTV, hold the power button on your PS3 for 5-6 seconds until you hear a second beep.  This will automatically detect your new connections and reset the video display.  Then you go into settings and configure the display settings to how you like it.

Oh wow. I didn't even think about that! I'll be sure to give it a try as soon as I can, though. Thanks a bunch!
