I mean seriously, everyone these days only care about graphics. Especially PC gamers who thinks graphics makes a game super good. I mean yeah they make things look more detailed and realistic but graphics aren't the core part of a video game. All graphics really do is raise the budget of a game by a large amount  and make things look pretty. it literally doesn't do anything to be quite honest. Doesn't make the gamelay smoother, doesn't make the game any better either. It does nothing too add any depth or emotion to the game except make things look much more detailed and realistic as I said before. I seriously hate how PC gamers think the PC is "the best gaming console in the world" just because of how the graphics make the game look when graphics don't really matter.

It's part of bigger question, why do we generally care about outfits and bodies (TV, movies, street...) more and more.

That is a major insult to great classics like Super Mario Bros to say graphics make the game, not the gameplay.

 

Sometimes, games are intentionally made with retro graphics to give a different feeling to the experience. Undertale, Shovel Knight, Super Mario Maker, etc. All are great examples of this.

And it's an insult to visual artists to completely dismiss the role good graphics/aesthetics and art direction can have in a game (again, it's a visual medium). I absolutely do expect you to put substantial effort into making your product look distinct within the limitations of whatever style/system/engine etc. you're using, and if you aren't you'd better have a damn good reason for it. Graphics may or may not be the end-all (depending on the game), but it certainly has more effect than people like to give it [lack of] credit for.

Wow I'm surprised at how people found this three years later lol. But still, as I said three years ago. graphics are nice, but they're shouldn't be all that of a priority to gamers. There are games I've seen with amazing graphics yet is so horrible (The Order 1886), and games I;ve seen with crappy graphics yet as a good storyline (looking at you Xenoblade Chronicles)
