Its confirmed he will reappear, and we will get a clear explanation as to why he appeared in the secret ending of XIII-2, and how he was revived. But obviously, he's gonna play a big role in this game. He was the main villain in the previous game, so he's gonna play an important role here too.
Im sure what he's gonna do is:
Try to bring Yeul to the new World at any cost. His plan may have succeeded for 500 exact years, but now its failing due to the world dying and having a time limit to be destroyed. If he and Yeul don't get to the new world before the old one dies, their souls will be permanently destroyed(it turns out until the world is destroyed, no souls will be destroyed) and Yeul and Caius will cease to Exist.
But, the fact is, Lightning stands in their way. I doubt that she's gonna let them get live after
Caius got Serah killed.
So, we're probably gonna end up fighting him multiple times. He could be the final boss, maybe.....But i don't know anymore.
I think someone else will be the final boss now. Why do you ask? THere was a couple lines in XIII-2 that made me change my opinion, because it foreshadows what will happen in LR:
In XIII-2, one of the things that the Arbiter of Time(the ruler of the Coliseum) says to Serah and Noel, is that there would be "A great battle at the end of time." Time was destroyed in XIII-2. "After the EVENT"(obviously, Time being destroyed)"the Warriors and gods of history would duke it out. (Bhunivelze fighting his mother Mwynn.) And then the B-Whatever guy(guess who that is.) would be the Final Boss.
It is also revealed in the XIII-2 datalog that, the people trapped in the Coliseum(A.K.A. Snow) would be trapped there until
the day of Reckoning, which is pretty much when Time is destroyed and Bhunivelze awakes.
Hence how Snow escaped to join the battle.
Yeah, pretty heavy spoilers, right? I don't entirely believe this, because who knows if the creators will stick to this foreshadowing! But, if it new about the "Event", then it could have a decent chance to be true.
