Pokémon Red Version and Blue Version were the first installments of the Pokémon series and first released in 1996. Since then, the franchise has sold more than 172 million units, making it the second best-selling video game franchise of all time – falling only behind Nintendo’s Mario series, which has surpassed 200 million units sold. The next installments of the main series of Pokémon games, Pokémon X and Y, will be released worldwide on October 12th for Nintendo 3DS.

Not sure I find this thread believable.... O.o;;;

No I'm not kidding.

Go look it on youtube: History of Mario

or heck even on wikipedia you'll find it

+

We like Mario game not because he saved the industry, but because it's so simple and fun

And if you think Mario is the same thing always, you clearly never EVER played Super Mario 64,Super Mario Galaxy,Paper Mario or Mario & Luigi

Mario has games in almost every genre so there will be always a variety of Mario games outside of the platforming series.

Also,STOP GOING OFF TOPIC

This thread is about Pokemon, not about Mario

Uh first off, i said THE PLATFORMING MARIO GAMES ARE THE SAME EACH TIME. I wasnt talking about Mario Party or Mario 64 or Paper Mario or Mario and Luigi RPG, I MEANT THE SUPER MARIO GAMES THAT ARE SIDESCROLLERS. Those games always have the same thing. "Peach gets kidnapped by Bowser, Mario has to make his way to Bowsers castle and Goomba Stomps enemies in his way, he gets to Bowser's castle and defeats him, and saves Peach. The End." Thats what those games are all about. Maybe if they changed up the side scroller games themselves and had a different story, maybe i'd like them more. I actually like Mario Party, Paper Mario, Mario Kart and the Mario and Luigi RPG games. Its the sidescrolling platforming Mario games i hate, the SUPER MARIO BROS games. I should've made that clear from the start. The only real reason i hate them, is everyone praises them so highly then the others, EVEN THOUGH ITS THE EXACT SAME THING OVER AND OVER. I don't get that, it gets old after awhile, and they've over done it without really changing it up. That's what makes me hate that part of the series. But i like Mario Party, Paper Mario, Mario Kart and the Mario and Luigi RPG games BECAUSE THEY'RE DIFFERENT AND CHANGE THINGS UP. Its just the Super Mario Bros games that make me hate that part of the Mario franchise. :|

In the old days Mario wasn't old and the exact same thing every time. It was a game that kids played on their own or with their siblings (or if you had that super rich friend you'd play at theirs while weeping at the fact you didn't have one). The platforming games are Mario's staple franchise, he has branched out to every single genre out there (although no FPS yet xD) so at least there is some variety when it comes to Mario.

Mario platforming games do change though. In fact there is always something new with each game regardless of the same old jumping to the flag at the end of the level. If you don't like them then that is fine too, (I don't like the Final Fantasy 13 series which you love) but at least respect there are those who like them. I know the games can be a little bit repetitive in music and certain level design but man they are really fun (especially the multiplayer in recent games).

To be fair it does mention that Pokemon is second only behind Mario. I think that's what sparked it.

You're right, i should just let the people have their opinion and not bash them for it.

Nintendo saved the game industry, and they did that through the success of the NES and Super Mario Bros. That's why its their flagship series, after all. :P Also, there are quite a few Mario games which change things up. Look at Super Mario Galaxy, for example. That one wasn't anything like the standard platformer games.

There actually was a Mario FPS back on the SNES called Yoshi's Safari. :P

Good point.

Well,You're doing the exact same thing that you says it annoys you when FF fans are hating on XIII

You don't wanna people to hate XIII,but yet you want them to join your hate on the SMB series

And speaking of Side-scrolling,look at Super Mario World, and tell me with a straight freakin face that it looksplay the exact same as SMB3 or SMB2.....heck SMB2 has a totally different gameplay mechanics than SMB1

The only part that you're right about is only the New Super Mario Bros series....and that's about it

Everything else,(and I'm sorry to say that),is just you talking outta your ass.

The issue you're pointing isn't that huge and it's even in the first 3 Sonic games.

Sonic 1 to 3&k while has the same gameplay objective, they've introduced new things to the series like Tails and Knuckles,Super Sonic......etc

The same can be said for the Super Mario Bros games, yeah you go to the goal post like the Sonic games, but there are some new additions here and there that keeps the gameplay fresh and fun

People love the Super Mario Bros because they're simple, easy to pick up and play for newcomers & hardcore alike, and most importantly is FUN...y'know ...THE POINT OF PLAYING A VIDEO GAME!!!!

And I also like how those Mario Bros games, while being a platforming games, managed to be less linear than Final Fantasy XIII

I have to agree with spiderfreak. The side scrolling games are getting repetitive. They are fun, but I couldn't help but notice how repetitive NSMB2 was. The only gimmick was the coin collecting, which was probably 50% why I enjoyed it. At least the old side scrollers had notable differences that made them stand out from one another.

Anyways with the future releases of XY, that number is going to go up in noticeable amounts.

THE NEW SMB SERIES IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT. That's why i hate it, its too repetitive. And yet people say their AMAZING. But, this is getting too far off topic, so im going to stop now. This is supposed to be about POKEMON which is definitely better then the NSMB series in my eyes. I'm glad they have so many sales, they really deserve it. :)

Also, i think the Mario Bros game are still as linear as FF XIII was. The only difference is that there are bonus levels in Mario, and in Chapter 11 of XIII, they ditched the linearity for that chapter and had many side areas to go too. But for the rest of the game its linear.

Ahhh, who cares about statistics? Pokemon is a good series.

And just.

I rather not get involved in this drama anymore *YAWN*
