I've never thought I'd say this, but I am currently watching a slice of life style anime...

Yeah.

To eleborate, this show's been out for a while, and so has the manga, and I recently got introduced to it thanks to a anime reviewer on YouTube. He's like me; I prefer shonen anime with big muscled guys punching each other in the face.

But then I heard about this series; it's hilarious, and pushes the bar on everything that is awkward and uncomfortable... but it's still hilarious. lol

I recommend any type of anime/manga fan to check this series out. And after you do that, come back here so we can talk about it. :)

Welp, guys, the last anime episode for WataMote came out yesterday, and I just got done watching the subbed version today. It's sad that these anime series already has to end with only 12 episodes, because I know there's way more material that the anime can cover.

I guess all we can do now is read the manga, which I'll have you know is still ongoing and has been since 2011. There's also a comedy 4 panel spin off manga that stars Yuu if you're interested in that. :)

You can read both of those mangas here, btw:

Any chance if it getting another season, or is it a done deal? If its really, done, them I'm a bit sad.

As far as we know, 12 episodes is the cap. Maybe a little after the DVD release in Japan, it might get the greenlight for another season. Until then, fingers crossed.

So, the manga has been available in the US for over a week now. I just picked it up got it in the mail yesterday, and its pretty good. I've only read two chapters so far (it's so short, I want to stretch it out a little), but it hasn't been as painful as the anime. Of course, then anime wasn't terrible at first, so there's still plenty of time.

*sigh* I just wish the next volume would be released more quickly. January is so far away. :(

So I finally got around to watching Episode 13, aka the OVA that was released along with the 7th manga volume.

Here's my thoughts/analysis:

We open with Tomoko, Yuu, and Ki (Tomoko's cousin) putting on some dark skit where they're basically brainstorming ideas for the show's second season and to get more popularity for the show (this doesn't confirm that we actually will be getting a second season for the show, but hey, fingers crossed). It goes about as well as you think: Tomoko's getting all pervy with Yuu and Ki, saying they basically gotta turn into a three way yuri group with Yuu being the mean ditz, Ki being the genius loli and Tomoko being the typical dry, deadpan chick. There's a lot of jabs at anime tropes and anime fans here (she refers to the people who like these "cookie-cutter" type characters as "tards" of all things xD), but eventually Ki, pretty much the only sane girl in this group (Yuu isn't crazy like Tomoko, but she isn't too bright either, so she doesn't count) shatters this little skit by basically telling her to drop the fantasty altogether, which makes Tomoko freak out and transition into our opening sequence. Let me just say that I never get tired of the ironically pleasing "J-Metal" opening that we have for this show. lol

Aftewards, we get to the actual plot of the episode: we're introduced to a boy, who we later find out is named Aomatsu, who goes to Tomoko's school and is a year below her, in her brother Tomoki's class; he's a intelligent and thoughtful kid who thinks he's surrounded by morons and basically wants to fall into one of those stereotypical shonen cliches where some mysterious chick shows up and changes his life forever. Already, we're digging into some commentary on anime tropes, and even more so then the opening skit, because this basically lasts the entire episode, but more on that later. Anyways, Aomatsu goes to the top of the roof of his school and, of course, meets a mysterious girl. The girl, however... is Tomoko. But not the Tomoko we know. You can easily tell its her because of her hair and the bags under her eyes, but she has a more serious and defined character design. Why that is, we'll figure out later. Basically, Tomoko starts playing the mysterious act with Aomatsu: she tells him a bunch of nonsense about terrorists and weapons and other hilariously cliche things, and Aomatsu believes every single world of it, or at least, he believes that Tomoko is still worth seeing again. So we go through this long sequence of Aomatsu waiting out his time until he can meet Tomoko again, and its done so seriously that you just have to laugh at how cliche it is. A couple of things happen: one, Aomatsu gets sick one day and stays home from school, and the next day he returns, there's a scene where we hear Tomoko being called to the office. Remember those two things for later. We then flash forward three years later, to present day apparently, where Aomatsu is older, still wishes he could have seen Tomoko again, and believe it or not, they bump into each other, but of course, don't recognize each other, and go their own ways.

Now you might be thinking: what the hell is going on? Well, let's continue: we go back to Tomoko, present day again, where she's standing in front of the same door that leads to the roof of her school. She then remembers a sequence of events that happened in her middle school days (yay, middle school Tomoko). First, we see her have a little pow-pow with Yuu (now in her frumpy form from that age) and another girl named Komi (basically some know-it-all bitch that the other two happen to be sitting with and does everything she can to piss off Tomoko and try to nab Yuu as her best friend.) This happens again later in the episode, and I think its a nice little insight on how Tomoko was and interacted with others in her middle school days; we never got to see too much of that in the anime before. Anyways, later on, Tomoko manages to get the key to the rooftop after one of the gym teachers accidentally drops it in the halls. She goes up to the roof, acting her usual self, when Aomatsu comes in. She then hurriedly goes into the little act she put on for Aomatsu that we already saw her do, the difference is of course that instead of seeing her the way Aomatsu saw her - the mysterious girl with enticing motives and beautiful body - we see her the way she really is, fumbling about in her mind, desperate to put up the charade for the young student who doesn't know enough to catch on to her facade. It's really funny to see this after seeing the supposed brilliant acting she put on in the first act. Now then, we get to the daywhere Aomatsu is sick and doesn't go to school; Tomoko's on the roof, with a fake gun in hand she got so she could scare and amaze Aomatsu a little more, when all of a sudden, the gym teacher appears. Tomoko hides it out until he leaves, but he locks the door behind him. Tomoki isn't worried about it because she still has the key... but of course... after her phone dies, and she decides to leave, she finds that she can't open the door from the other side. And to make matters even worse, everybody in the school building leaves because I guess they were having a half day. Tomoko starts freaking out, shooting her fake gun, there's tons of tension and drama in the air, but eventually sometime late at night, the gym teacher finds her and lets her out, but not before scolding the hell out of her and making her cry. The next day, she's called into the office, wrapping up all the information we were given in a complete sequence. Flash forward to Tomoko again, deciding not to go to the roof and instead going back and into the scene where her and Aomatsu bump into each other and don't recognize each other, while Tomoko decides that if she did meet Aomatsu again, she'd probably be more mortified then the time where Yuu asked her what her dream job was (that I'm sure was hilarious).

So verdict: it was a good, if not great, episode, mixing in the usual humor, drama, and awkwardness of the anime with a unique style of storytelling in a mysterious yet well put together manner. It's sad really, because the way you see Aomatsu introduced in this single episode and get a peak into what he's like, he's pretty much Tomoko's soulmate; they're exactly like each other, although I admit that Aomatsu is a lot more calm and collected than our dear Tomoko. Even so, this episode also dropped a lot of hints that a second season was coming, especially introudcing Aomatsu, and while it's still up in the air as of now, I'd like to see that come through. I don't care if Aomatsu isn't even in the manga or anything else, I wanna see this guy again and see if there's more shenanigans involved with him and Tomoko, and whatever else we'd get with a second season of WataMote. I hope the anime and manga are doing well both here in the states and Japan, but I'd really really like to see that happen. :)

I went to kissanime.com. It's the only site where I could find a decent stream.

God dang, what a time for my internet to crap out. X_X Must watch when I get the chance. I've bought every English release of the manga so far, and I need the anime in my life.

I'd buy the manga, but I'm afraid someone in my family will somehow get a hold of them and see... Well, the not so nice side of the series. ._. Doesn't help that my brother actually knows what it is and how bad it can get.

That happened with my brother. There was a Persona reference in one of the volumes, so I showed it to him 'cause he loves Persona... He decides he wants to read the first volume. I hesitantly let him, then like 30-40 minutes later he returns it to me and just gives me this look :/ . He hasn't asked me to read the other 4 volumes... Luckily my parents never touch my books and hardly go in my room, so they won't see 'em. X_X

My brother saw me looking at pictures of the anime when it first aired. He asked what it was, and proceeded to watch it... Until the train episode, where he quit and never talked about it again.

Although to be fair I still haven't re-watched WataMote in english yet. In full that is.

... You made me think there was a second season coming up or something like that. Dangit Firaga, don't do this to me. xD

And no, I haven't. ._.

Of course, your current signature is the "Party Hard" Tomoko one right now.

One of my ex-boyfriends took my watamote manga </3

This anime is priceless btw.

I don't even know how to describe it.
