The rain came down in cold drops,

As Sora headed home to the small house on the quiet backroad, his hands shoved in his pockets to guard against the chill.

He fingered the tattered piece of black cloth that was once a glove, and a soft smile crossed his lips, as memories of the man who once wore it danced through his head.

He turned a corner, and thought about how it had all come to this point: as a kid on Destiny Islands, he couldn't have ever predicted the way things would turn out.

The 19-year-old felt his sky blue eyes moisten with more than just raindrops, as he remembered... and these memories were painful.

The Mark Of Mastery in the Dream Realm had left a hole that could never be filed in he and Riku's friendship, and Sora left the Islands at 17 to go to Twilight U, while Riku remained to attend the local community college. Kairi headed out for safer pastures, sick of being a Princess Of Heart, and damning all pre-ordained fate.

As he neared the small house he rented, he wondered if his decision had been a good one: had it been HIS idea.... or fates?

The sun came through the window in a brillant beam, heating up Riku's face as he vainly tried to fall back asleep.

Giving up, the 20-year-old sat up, stretching to get rid of a knot in his neck.

His platnium silver hair lay damply against his face, and he realized he'd been sweating profusely during his sleep.

More nightmares, likely as not.

He walked to the bathroom, and gazed at himself in the mirror, seeing the dark circles under his aqua marine eyes that stood out so darkly on his pale skin.

He took a long shower, enjoying the heat of the water as it rolled off his flesh, washing away the sweat... and memories.

Dressing, he opened the small box on his cordwood dresser, and removed the crown shaped necklace.

He fingered the shiny chain, remembering....

He put it on, tucked it under his shirt, and left his house, headed down to the beach to do some fishing before leaving for his class.

( Writers note: This was written while listening to MELODIES OF LIFE from Final Fantasy IX: The words match this song eeriely. If you can, play it while reading. That's all. Will post more soon.)

The alley was, as usual, silent: The house was one of only three occupied in the area. Lights glimmering through the hazy rain told Sora his roomate was awake, probably doing more stupid squats to rock music.

He trudged through a puddle, headed towards the warmth and light of the house,

fumbling for his keys in the dark.

This is actually pretty good, I like how you describe things in shorter chapters. Even though I'm used writing really long chapters those short ones are pretty epic to read. Keep writing my friend.

He trudged through a puddle, headed towards the warmth and light of the house,

fumbling for his keys in the dark.

He finally got the door open, and entered the darkened house.

" .... there is a moment in time, when all the cards that you've played divide. You feel the tempature dive..."

As usual, Roxas was blaring older rock music, some video game trash.

Sora knew it was the jump: 15 to 19 in one go wouldn't be easy for anyone, and Roxas still retained a few childsih quirks...

including not understanding the concept of headphones.

"... and a cold voice, sings a melody, hear it sing, " Hell frozen rain falls down"....."

Sora walked down the dark hallway, feeling along the wall for the doorknob: the dark didn't bother him like it did Roxas. The dark hid things: people, houses... memories....

He found the knob, and twisted it, entering the bedroom he shared with Roxas,  brightly light by the overhead.

Roxas lounged on his bed, feet bare, long legs clad in faded blue jeans with patches on the knees, his skinny chest covered by a faded out Moogle tee from god knew where.

His thin fingers flew over the keyboard of his laptop, the skull sticker on the back seeming to glow in the light.

" Hey dude. " He said, kicking his shoes off to fall onto his own bed, suddenly tired.

" What's up? You' 'k?"

Roxas' sea green eyes were filled with concern beneath his overlong bangs, his face a mask of calm left over from his days as a Nobody that neatly concealed emotions.

" Yeah... it's nothing."

But he was lying: it was a lot more than nothing.... a LOT more.

Riku's part-time job at the One Winged Angel bar and grill was just enough to pay the rent, and keep the power on: what little was left over got spent on pens and more notebooks.

Gripped by powerful EMO-ish depression bouts every now and then, Riku would spend hours pening powerful short stories, often personal and dark, pouring his soul onto the paper.

Not that this was anyone else's buisness: Riku's notebooks were kept carefully hidden away under his bed, locked in a box from Wonderland, that could only be unlocked by knowing the correct number of nonsense words to say.

As he neared the bar, the crown necklace suddenly grew hot: mechanicaly, Riku turned to the sea, staring hard at the islet that was his childhood , overgrown and in disrepair after all these years.

Without thinking, without planning, Riku took off, the necklace burning fiercely against his skin, racing through the streets to the wharf at the sea edge.

Twelve almost in human minutes of quickened rowing later, a journey of twenty minutes normally...

Riku was back on Destiny Islet, where it all began, so long ago.

Sora was dreaming: he was back in Wonderland, but nothing was right, and everything was wrong.

Beneath a lightning split sky, clouded over with pure black clouds, the landscape was bent, meandering towards dead trees that reached towards the sky with twisted branches deeply resembling fingers.

" Off with their heads.."

Turning towards the soft voice, Sora saw the Princess of Heart Alice, but not the Alice who exsisted in reality:

( Editers note: Rating jump: 17 +. Easily scared stop reading )

Dress torn, what looked horribly like blood splashed across the hem, it was very obviuse Alice had been dead for a while: the Queen had finally gotten her way.

Alice opened her eyes, which glowed a pure yellow: the eyes of the chesire cat.

She held up a pocket watch, glass cracked, and giggled.

" Late, late, for a very important date.."

6

Sora screamed, over and over, his throat soon hoarse from the very effort.

" What? What's wrong? Sora! Sora, wake up!"

A slap: Roxas was always good at getting Sora out of what ever current horror his mind had thrown at him while he slept.

" The Princessess again?"

Lately, all of Sora's dreams had been twisted versions of the worlds, the Princessess turned into nightmarish charaticatures of their former selves.

" Alice this time... Roxas... what does this MEAN???"

That was one question Roxas had no answer for.

The memories washed over Riku, as he walked along the sandy beach, littered with debris and trash, but still pure and white.

"... late,late, for a very important date...."

The whisper came suddenly, and the crown necklace gave a fast twinge of heat, as sudden images of lightning filled skys and a twisted landscape flooded Riku's mind.

  ~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sora groaned, holding his head, the sudden sound of waves crashing flooding his mind, the tattered glove in his pocket suddenly icy cold.
He sat up: " Riku!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Riku sat up, suddenly hearing a familiar, long lost voice. " Sora!"

Barely able to believe it was true, Riku took off down the beach, drawn to the old Paopu tree on the circular islet...

the place where it had all begun so long ago....

Running down the footbridge, still wonderfully, impossibly intact after all these long, harsh years, Riku ran to the Paopu tree, the crown burning fiercely beneath his shirt, directly over his heart.

" Sssorrrraaa!!"

9

Sora sat up, panting hard, breaking free of Roxas's light grip on his shoulders to hurriedly shove his shoes back on.

" Sora? Sora! Where are you..."

But Sora was out the door, running down the hall, and gone.

10

Sora raced into the storm outside, the cloth icy cold in his pocket, an unknown force guiding his heart, towards what, he knew not.

He ran fast, panting, and soon came to the dirty edge of what passed for the sea there, having had run over two miles.

" Rrrriikkkuuu!!"

Time meant nothing then: the waves faded from Riku's hearing, as the rain ceased to pour on Sora.

Heat mixed with cold, as the two men found themselves in a limbo, spots of dancing light surrounding them, as what they both knew to be a Dark Corrider fromed around them, taking them far into the worlds.

 Riku saw Sora, and a smile crossed his thin lips, the first in  years.

Sora saw Riku, and the haze in his heart faded, for the first time in  years.

At last, after a darkness that had taken them over, they were reunited, an undying bond reborn anew.

" I was wondering if this mess had anything to do with you, you meathead."

After all these years, the darkness had lifted.

I bet Riku looks hot with that necklace on :D

This is a beautiful story, by the way ^_^

Thank you.

( He did, btw. PS: found you a fun Riku pic:

"... Wake up, leave your hesitation... wake up.... show appreciation..."

The teens danced fast and hard to the beat, the square of Traverse Town's 5th Disctrict jumping with the annual Beat Fest.

Neku sat by himself, as usual, headphones blaring a much louder version of the song into his ears.

" Dang, same old mess. " He muttered, watching Shiki do a wild, and utterly un-moogle, dance with Beat.

As the teens danced, sweaty and hot beneath the strings of coloured lights above, but to into the moment to stop, Neku spotted two shooting stars.

Three things happened, all at once:

Everyone but Neku, Shiki, and Beat froze in place.

The song suddenly switched to a techno/pop ballad called Simple And Clean.

Two men fell from the sky.
