I'm feeling like I'm trying to be OVERLY helpful on here: everyone has a bad day, I try to listen, and all I do is depress myself.

Why do I do this to myself? Any ideas?

I tried that in real life in 8th grade..I only ended up getting hurt...caring is good but like they say, too much of something is bad

It's good you want to help people, but there is a such thing as stretching yourself too thin.  Some people just don't want help, or the things that would help them are things they don't want to hear/do.  There's also how exposing yourself to peoples' problems means knowing all this crap is happening to people you might care about, so of course it'd be depressing.  Even if you can't offer concrete solutions, just listening and being there for them can make a difference.
