"THIS IS IT FOLKS!!" The short, plump announcer declared. "THE IG-I IS FINALLY UNDER WAY! TODAY WE HAVE RISING STAR BLAKE BLAZER FACING OFF AGAINST IG-I VETERAN FERRO ALSTRAD, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS BINARY. THE RACE IS JUST ABOUT TO START FOLKS!! I CAN BARELY WAIT MYSELF!!"

Inside his mech, Blake rolled his eyes. "You ready, old man?" He asked his opponent.

(Other racers are gathered in the Lounge Area at the stadium, they have a clear view of the race where they can scout out their competition, be they on the course or with them in the lounge. I recommend socializing while Natron and I are racing)

"This ought to be interesting." Ren looked at the racers on the track. "A set of Midfielders racing it out. This ought to be good." Ren sighed. "I wish I was out there racing right now." He slumped into his chair a little from boredom as he said this.

Ferro snorted inside his mech and turned off the comm feed between himself and Blake. Idiot amateur. Ferro couldn't stand all of these over-confident new racers that seemed to all but be pouring into the IGPX these days. Ferro signaled to the flagger that he was ready to start the race. He crouched down into his start position, with his weapons resting on the ground. He kept his limbs relaxed. He let ten years of experience come to the fore of his mind. The light of the sun seemed to be absorbed by the black and reflected by the green. Black and green; Binary.

3-2-1-GO

Blake slammed on the gas and his mech surged forward, he moved in front of Ferro and activated his first sonic pulse to give him an early lead and throw off Ferro's season opener. "Seeya' at the finish, Binary!"

Ferro dug in with his weapons as the sonic blast hit him, so it only pushed him back a couple of meters. He then gave a mighty push with all four limbs and began speeding down the course. Because he used all four of his limbs for propulsion, Ferro was able to move twice as fast as Blake's regular speed. His superior movement soon caught him up. As Ferro neared Blake's backside, he suddenly spread himself out flat across the track. He slammed into Blake's legs, toppling him over and back, got back up to a regular position, and resumed his forward progress.

"FERRO'S STARTING THINGS OUT WITH QUITE THE OFFENSIVE!!" The announcer cried.

Blake quickly rectified himself and checked his mech for damages. Just some normal skid marks. He decided not to risk anything else and kept a safe distance from Ferro as the first lap progressed.

Blake quickly rectified himself and checked his mech for damages. Just some normal skid marks. He decided not to risk anything else and kept a safe distance from Ferro as the first lap progressed.

Ferro made good progress down the course, drifting around corners, going at speed through the straightaways. He checked the map of the course on his display and smiled. He was lengthening the distance between himself and Blake. Still on all fours, he leaned through the next curve.

Blake was getting frustrated. "Just can't compare with his speed..." He grumbled. "I may as we'll be racing a forward." He could probably close the distance with another sonic burst, but he needed to save those for when he really needed them. "What the-” Blake crashed into the course wall.

"OH AND IT LOOKS LIKE BLAKE BLAZER'S LOT FOCUS. HE NEEDS TO GET HIS HEAD IN THE GAME!"

Blake shook it off and continued across the turn. He got one pit stop. He needed to save that too.

Ferro saw Blake crash on his map display and shook his head. Just as he had thought: amateur. Well, he wasn't about to give the kid a chance. Ferro continued to speed down the track. The kid shouldn't have made such an audacious move so soon, he thought.

Blake ran a quick diagnostics on his mech. That crash had messed with his left side pretty bad. He called for a pit stop.

"OH WHAT'S THIS?!" The commentator cried. "BLAKE'S CALLING A PIT THIS EARLY INT HE RACE?! AND HERE COMES THE RUNNING SKELETON!"

A yellow "CAUTION" line appeared in front of Ferro. He had to stay behind that line or face disqualification. It. Over along with him but he was unable to accelerate further. A giant U-shaped vehicle drove in. Blake parked between its arms. "We'll fix you up." The engineer assured. The running skeleton's claws detached Blake's mech's left arm and soon replaced it. The running skeleton brought Blake up to Ferro and let him go. A few seconds later, the yellow line went blue, Blake pulled ahead of Ferro and cut him off, trying to hold his lead at least until the second lap.

"UTILIZING HIS PIT TO PULL BACK UP TO BINARY WAS A CLEVER MOVE THERE!!” The announcer shouted.

(............Sooooo I guess I'm not participating in this race...I'll post when I have my ramen....)

Ferro bided his time behind Blake for several curves. Ferro had to give him credit: that was a good use of the pit stop. But it wouldn't matter in the long run. Ferro got up on two legs, since he couldn't speed ahead. Moving close to Blake's backside, he dropped down, balanced on three limbs, and made a sweeping slash with his left leg across the back of Blake's knees.

"AND BINARY MAKES ANOTHER EARLY BLOW!! IF THIS VETERAN ISN'T CAREFUL HE WON'T HAVE ANY ENERGY LEFT FOR THE THIRD LAP!!"

Blake's mech fell on it's butt. He took his chance to have Ferro's plan backfire by grabbing one of his limbs and pulling himself up and throwing the old man behind him.

(What do you mean by not having energy left? And what lap are we on?)

(Mech fuel is limited. I guess you could restock later with you pit. Also, if you recall, a page equals a lap)

(I shouldn't think mechs would use THAT much fuel for a blow, but okay, thanks!)

Ferro slid on all fours, but quickly regained forward motion and sped to his original position behind Blake. A turn was coming up, and Ferro intended to use it. As they rounded the bend, Ferro took the outside on four limbs and was able to put on just enough speed to pass Blake and come out in front at the straightaway. He began to pull away.

  • Author

(Yeah but if you use too much too early, you'll regret it)

"Dammit you!" Blake curves around the inside and sped forward if attempt to merely keep up with his opponent.

"BINARY ISN'T LETTING BLAZER DO ANYTHING!!" The announcer exclaimed. "HE JUST KEEPING TOO FAR AHEAD AND KEEPING HIS OPPONENT MORE THAN ENOUGH BEHIND, THIS RACE COULD EASILY BE OVER BEFORE THE SECOND LAP!!"

Ferro took another turn and on the straightaway he pushed with all four limbs at once. This gave him an extra, although temporary, burst of speed to put more distance between himself and Blake. He checked hs fuel gauge; roughly two-thirds of a tank left, enough to reach the end, unless something happened. He did the same four-limb push at the next straightaway.

"I can't stand this!" Blake cried. "Screw it, I have four left." He activated another sonic burst to pull up in front Ferro. "Take this!" He used another sonic blast in an uppercut to send Ferro's mech flying up and backward. "And stay back there!"

"OHO HO SUCH BRUTALITY SO EARLY IN THE RACE, I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT UNFOLDS IN THE BATTLE ROUND!!"

Ferro flew backwards. But he had been in situations like this before. In fact, he had practiced them. He turned his disorganized motion into a neat backflip, landing on four limbs and giving a push forward at the same time. This sent him into a forward loping motion which brought him to a balanced position. Just as practiced. Ferro checked his mech for damages. Nothing worth spending a pit stop on. He resumed his four-limbed progress down the track. The distance Blake had gained was going, fast. What was the thing people called Ferro? Oh, yeah. Relentless.

Just ignore him, Blake. The young racer told himself. Just hold your lead and start the second lap soon. This Ferro has more experience, but his style's shoddy. There's reason he's been stuck in the IG-I. He's good... But not good enough. Blake turned the corner and accelerated slightly across the track.

"AND WE'RE INTO THE SECOND LAP!! THE BATTLE ROUND!!"

(What's different about the battle round?)

Chiko smiled a bit as Blake and Ferro reached their second lap.

"This is a tough match for both of them...It would be tough for me too..." She muttered to herself, watching Blake and Ferro's every move.

(Just that it's more logical to do stuff like this)

Blake turned around, going backwards down the track and lowering his speed to let Ferro get closer, when he was close enough, Blake let down his mech's fist into Ferro's mech's cranium, forcing almost it's entire torso to the ground, skidding along the track. "There're disadvantages to racing like that!" Blake told him before turning back around and rounding the first turn.

IA walked up to watch the race besides Chiko. "That Ferro would probably be challenge for anybody. Though Blake seems to be a bit of a hothead." She chuckled before turning to Chiko. "I'm Iris."

(Do you have to do stuff like that?)

Ferro stumbled as Blake's blow forced him back. He would have to get better at transitioning laps. Ferro sped forward again until he was behind Blake. "All right, hotshot, let's see how you deal with this." It was the first time Ferro had spoken during the race, and it meant he was getting serious. Ferro brought his knee up between Blake's legs while grabbing his arms. He then spun Blake around and slammed him into the ground. Then Ferro, now on top of Blake, pushed off of his head and continued on his way.
