What if Sam and Dean had quit? What if they hadn't stopped the apocalypse? What if it was all up to you?

based on the tv show Supernatural

 a 1x1 with Josh wilson

It wasn't that hunters were fearless. Alia couldn't deny the terror that caused her heart to beat frantically against her chest or the adrenaline coursing through her veins. What made hunters special was the ability to overcome that instinctive fear. She took a deep breath and tightened her grip on the demon-killing knife she'd secured on a recent hunt. A blur as she dove around the brick wall she'd concealed herself behind, Alia drove the knife into the demon's neck. Its eyes widened and flashed red for a moment before the life faded out of them. Breathing heavily, Alia yanked the knife out of the body and glanced around her. She was in someone's backyard, but luckily she hadn't woken the homeowner. The night was chilly, but the moon was full and they would have seen Alia standing in the yard. Though the demon had been chasing her first, it was kind of difficult to explain to a regular person why she had killed a man on their property. Alia wiped the blood onto her pants and shoved her knife back inside her jacket. After the demon had ambushed her, she'd ended up in an area she was unfamiliar with. She pulled out her cellphone and dialed a familiar number. He picked up on the first ring. "James, I'm gonna need a ride." Alia scanned the moonlit suburb for a street sign. "I'm on...Hayward Court."

"Another one down?" James said. " you work fast, as usual, on my way." James got into the car and drove. The car was a classic ford, like the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazard. Cost him a pretty penny. He loved it so... But enough about car love. "Damn... Feels like yesterday when I was 'normal'... Whatever..." He puled up to the curb and rolled down the window and said jokingly, "you sure there isn't any others? Like in the trash bin?"

(Edit. I was looking at the backyard out my window lol.)

"Nah, I think it was just one." Paranoid as ever, Alia threw one last glance over her shoulder. She didn't just want to leave a body in some poor person's yard, but the neighborhood was so quiet that if she tried to move the thing, she might end up getting the cops called on her. As far as she knew, they'd already been called. She hopped in the passenger seat. "You know, it's weird. I haven't seen so many demons around since the Devil's Gate was opened. I wonder if something's happening?" Sirens began to sound in the distance. Whether they were for her or someone else Alia wasn't sure, but she wasn't going to stick around to find out.

James replied sarcastically "Maybe there planning something real evil...Maybe the all got tired and left to do something more productive, like finger-painting." He felt his stomach rumble "You wanna get somthin to eat ? This...job if I can even call it that has left me starved..." He head the sirens and stepped on the gas. "I guess it can wait...So, about this hunting business... Are there others like you? I mean you told me that, but I've seen none so far, is there a way you could connect?"

"Yeah," Alia laughed. "Food sounds good." It was probably around one in the morning, so the only place left open in the small town was a McDonald's. Alia had never really cared for fast food, but hunters didn't usually get much choice in what they had to eat. Alia pulled out her phone and hesitantly texted Garth. The message was short--just asking whether he knew if anything particularly unusual was going on. Garth usually replied rather quickly, and sure enough, a few minutes after Alia had sent the text her phone pinged. She skimmed over the text and almost dropped her burger. All hunters knew that the demons had been attempting to free Lucifer from Hell, but as far as Alia knew, they still hadn't succeeded. Garth's message flipped her world upside down. He wasted no time on a preamble. "Was gonna call you soon. Sam + Dean are MIA. They opened the cage. Lucifer is free and the apocalypse has started."

James sighed " I guess that answed my question... So who is this person and what does he want?" James snatched the phone "Sam and Dean? Lucifer? The apocalypse?" He squinted at the message, as if it would do any good. "Ok... What the hell? Who are those two guys, and if the did do that, wich I don't think they did, how badly did they mess up to start THE APOCALYPSE!" He looked outside to see two strangers who heard the outburst. He waved sheepishly at them and smiled.

The strangers got closer and closer. He thought nothing of it until he saw their eyes. They were pitch black. Fighting them in a mc Donald's would attract unwanted attention, and he was sure demons didn't quite care for human etiquette. Only option: drive to the safer place. "Hold on to your food!" He said to Alia, and shifted in reverse, and sped away.

Alia didn't look up from her phone even as the car shot into reverse. Garth had to be joking. Apocalypse? It was like something out of a cheesy horror novel. "What does he mean Sam and Dean are missing? Are they dead?" Alia had only known them for a short week in which they hunted her family's killers, but they weren't ones to run out when they were needed. Alia tossed her empty McDonalds bag out the window. "We should do some fact-checking. Find a library for me."

"Right." James drove to the nearest library in no time. He knew that 'recon' was important. The local library was 2 stories tall, with gothic design; true to its 'long standing history'. When he went inside, he saw ancient murals and dusty old books. He would be surprised if there weren't any demons In this place. "So what do we star with? I say we work our way up in the evil scale. Start with necromicon and end with tabloids."

(ooc: have you watched supernatural? just curious, since then all of the references about the Bible and stuff I'm making would make more sense)

Alia and James had to break into the library. It wasn't difficult for a hunter, but Alia still felt sort of guilty. "I was thinking we'd start with something a little more traditional. The only mention of apocalypse I've ever come across has been in the Bible." It wasn't too hard to find a copy. The library was massive, and if Alia hadn't been rushed for time, she would have loved to spend a whole month combing through the place. She made a mental note to find time to visit again. That was assuming she had time after the supposed apocalypse. Alia flipped to Revelations and began to skim through. Though most of it was boring and Alia didn't uncover any real clues, it cemented Garth's story. Something was definitely going on, and all the evidence pointed to the apocalypse.

It was around five when Alia and James left the library. Alia would have liked to stick around and do some more research, but librarians would be arriving soon and there wasn't any way she could explain breaking in to read the Bible. "I don't want to admit it," Alia began as she got in the passenger seat of James's car. "But I think Garth is right. I think maybe this really is the apocalypse."

(I have, but my memory is a little spotty sometimes, forgive me:( and James was joking about the necronomicon. Can we also have a demon appear who's like that one guy.... Forget his name... British accent guy?)

"So then, what do we do to stop it, if we can?" James said with a quizzical look on his face . He had never believed that crap in the bible that much. Too much fire and brimstone for his taste. " Let's go to the hotel. I'm tired and I think the apocalypse can wait until morning." He got in the car and adjusted the monitor to see... A face of some kind?

(ah, okay! just wanna make sure that my references are understood lol! Crowley! Yeah, totally!)

"I don't know. I guess we've all kind of relied on Sam and Dean to fix things up until now. If Garth says they're missing, it probably means they're dead. They wouldn't just run out like that." It wasn't until James mentioned the hotel that Alia realized how tired she was. A day of researching, a fight with a demon, then a night spent at a library? She could definitely use a nap. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes so she could stay awake long enough to make it to her hotel room. She noticed James's gaze had shifted to the mirror, which was tilted slightly so that she couldn't quite catch the reflection. "What? See something?"

(Thanks for understanding. School is such a pain)

" I saw-" James looked at Alia then looked back the the mirror. The face was gone. " Nothing... Probably sleep depravation... Let's go..." James put the key in the ignition and took off to the hotel. To describe the hotel room in one word would be that it was... Habitable. Not that they needed much. It had 2 separate beds and a t.v to boot. They had a bathroom, complete with a shoddy shower. This job was a nomadic one, and low paying at that, so this was all they could afford. " You wanna shower first? Or should I?"

(nah I totally get it. But if you have any questions about it, I'd be happy to answer! I'm addicted to supernatural)

"You can go first. I'm going to head to the laundry room and see if I can hunt down some bleach. My knife could use a cleaning." Alia grabbed a room key and headed outside. She honestly had no intention of heading to the laundry room. She wanted to find Sam and Dean. If they were still alive, the world was in desperate need of their help. Each of their numbers was on speed dial, and Alia repeatedly called both. Neither of the boys picked up. Alia hadn't called them since her family's deaths, but she was sure that if they were able, they'd pick up. Unsure of what else to do, Alia gave Garth a call. Though he sounded busy, he was as cheerful as ever. He gave Alia a brief apocalyptic overview--Sam and Dean had accidentally started the Biblical apocalypse and unless Lucifer was stopped, they were all going to die. And, of course, he had no idea how to stop it. On that happy note, Alia hung up and returned to the hotel room. She wouldn't mention the phone calls to James. She was expecting Garth's answer, and she didn't want to burden James with the news. It wouldn't be fun to explain that the world was ending and she had no idea how to stop it.

James got out of the shower to see the man in the mirror standing in front of the door. "Refreshed?" Said the man. He was wearing formal wear and black shades. He was about as tall as James, and seemed to have an air of mystery about him. James ignored the comment that the man had said "So... You definitely aren't house keeping, so you must be-"

"Yes." Said the man "And if you're gonna try and scream for your protector, don't bother, she can't hear us."

"So what do you want?" Said James

"Oh, I just love a man who gets straight to the point." The man smiled, and said "We want the chick out of our way. We don't give a damn about you, but she's got to go. And you are gonna help us do it."

"Why?" Said James "Besides the obvious, of course..."

"None of your concern." Said the man. "But can I ask you something? Do you know Alia?"

"Y-yea..." James said

The man said "Do you think you are her only partner? She never had anyone elsewhere do the stuff that you do?"

James pondered that. He never thought about that. She was younger than him, she had to have had someone...

The man smiled, knowing that he had hit a nerve. " She has friends in low and high places... And when times got tough... Well, she had to make some...decisions. Make those friends 'disappear' ..." The man opened the door " We'll be in touch... Oh, and if you tell her about this, we'll kill your family. Then her. And then you, and trust me, you don't want to be the last person. I take my sweet time with the desserts..." And disappeared in an instant. James heard Alias footsteps towards the apartment. He quickly put on his clothes, and sat on the bed.

Seconds before Alia opened the door, she realized she was going to need an excuse. Lying was almost second-nature, and an excuse popped into her head almost immediately. "Hey, James," She made sure the door was bolted behind her. "Couldn't find any bleach. This place is a lame excuse for a hotel, but I guess it's better than that motel in Utah." Alia kicked off her muddy boots before rummaging through the small duffel bag that contained her belongings. She produced a pair of pajamas. "I'm thinking after I grab a shower, we'll get a few hours of sleep and then get back on the job. There's probably some demon activity nearby that needs taking care of. Sound good?"

"Y-yeah..." James said, "Demon activity..." James tucked himself in the bed. He needed closure, he needed to talk."Hey..." James said to Alia in the shower"Did you ever... Before.... You know... Have anyone?"

Alia was combing her still-wet hair in the mirror. Her brush caught painfully on the mounds of tangles. "Uh, have anyone how? I told you about my family, if that's what you mean. I don't really want to talk about how they died again. It was pretty brutal." Alia's eyes shot down to her phone, lying on the counter in front of the mirror. Alia tried to focus only on her hair. Her reflection at night scared her. During the day, all dressed up like a hunter and never without a weapon, she felt like she was really playing the part. It was easier to believe she was invincible. There was something different about seeing herself in mickey mouse pajamas. The aura of power had faded in her eyes. She wasn't a hunter like this--only a normal teenage girl, and that was more terrifying than any demon.

"N-never mind..." Said James. He saw her in the pajamas and smiled. "That never gets old... My boss wearing Disney pajamas..." As he smiled, he turned his head, and drifted of to sleep. "Goodnight..." James dreamed of nothing... Just blackness. He never thought about it that much, with the job and all. He used to dream about his friends and family, but no more. It's like the more he did this job, the less imagination he had.

"I'm not your boss." Alia laughed. It was quiet for early morning. James was asleep, but Alia, as exhausted as she was, couldn't calm her frantic mind. How was she supposed to stop the apocalypse? Her reflexive reply was let someone else do it, but she couldn't spend her whole life relying on other hunters. Chances were, with Sam and Dean missing, they were just as clueless. The curtains were shut tight, but little bits of the rising sun peeked through the edges. It was staring at those little beams of light and wondering how exactly she was going to keep herself alive another day, Alia drifted off.

(Woot! Survived day 1!)

(U wanna start the next day?)

Alia woke up just as tired as she'd felt before she went to bed. James was still asleep, so she got up quietly. After changing, she stopped at the hotel gift shop to pick up some snacks for the road. They wouldn't have time to stop for a real breakfast. Though the hotel staff seemed nice enough, Alia made a point to watch their eyes carefully. Even the tiniest flicker of black would give them away, and Alia was itching to kill something. She returned to the room rather reluctantly, bringing only the box of stale Krispy Kreme donuts she'd bought.

The smell of Krispy Kremes and a pillow to the face is what woke James up. He talked to Alia as he got on his 'business clothes' and packed up their stuff."Ok... What's our plan to stop the world from ending? Cause I don't know what to do... Except find this Sam and Dean group and kick their ass so hard lucifer would feel it..." James turned on the TV to see any new events that could lead to clues.

  • Author

"The plan?" Alia hesitated for only a moment. "To stop it." She continued before he could ask exactly how she planned on doing that. As reluctant as she was to admit it, she had no idea what to do. "Sam and Dean aren't bad. They're hunters. Best there is, actually. I kinda learned how to hunt from studying them. Once they're found, they'll find a way to stop the apocalypse." Assuming they aren't dead, she added mentally. The news channel James had flipped to was bland, so Alia packed up her things and suggested they get out of dodge. To hang around in one place too long was dangerous. "I guess the next step in our plan is to..." She hesitated. They had to do something, but she was still terribly clueless. "I, uh, I guess we'll check the town for demons and then hit the road. We could stop at Garth's--" She regretted the words immediately. If they stopped at Garth's, James would find out how hopeless their situation really was. There was no point in demoralizing him. "Uh, actually, we could try to talk to some shadier characters. They've probably got way more information than Garth. We bag a demon and interrogate it. It's got to know something."

James noticed Alias strange behavior, and turned off the TV "Ok... Who are we gonna get that's 1: a demon and 2: gonna tell us anything even if we do interrogate it?".

"You could try me?" Said the man in black "for a price, of course.... Names Vince. Nice to meet you... And it will be a pleasure making a deal with you, I'm sure of it..."
