I Need Some Help On Deciding My Present! D:

Posted

Hey there everyone, how's it going?  As you all know, Christmas is right around the corner, and Mom told me that my sister is going to give me fifty dollars for Christmas.  I think that's awesome and all, because I get to buy my own present with that money.  The real dilemma comes from what I'll use it on.  The thing is that I want to buy a video game, and there are three games which have piqued my interest, and I'm at a loss at what to choose.  First, there's Tales of Xilia.  I've never played a Tales game, but from what I've read in game magazines and from what I've heard from people, the game sounds pretty badass.  Then there's Batman: Arkham Origins, which is the prequel to Asylum and City. I've seen the vast potential and awesomeness of the Batman games, so that makes me hard pressed on my decision.  Then there's The Last Of Us.  People say that this game is insane, and Jaune himself said the game is really good, and I can believe them because I've seen the Uncharted games and they've also received high praise.  The bottom line is that all these games have intriguing stories, and I don't know which one to choose.  If it were up to you, which of these three games would you choose?  It would be of great help to hear your opinions on these games to help make my decision.  Thanks for reading! :)

Haven't played any of them. Every game has it's pro's and con's. And these three titles are each really good. I say, take all three games and ask yourself these questions;

1. Which game will last the longest?

2. Which game is the most filling?

3. What do I like in a game?

4. Which game is best built?

5. Which game will suit my preference the most? Ex.) Open-World, Action, etc.

Overall, in my opinion, the best game is the one that will last the longest, the one that has an impact on me, one that will keep me playing.

Hope this helped!

Huh, that actually does help.  Thanks for that in depth reply. :O

Tales of Xillia is amazing. It's a great introduction to Tales with very action packed gameplay and a good story which will take about 40 hours to complete and another 30 or so to platinum and perhaps the romance will remind you of you and your beloved inori. ^_^

...I have yet to play any of the Arkham games, so I can't be of help here. :(

The Last of US is another great game, it will last about 16 hours, single player mode that is, it's got a great and very emotional story, truly amazing characters. The gameplay is...well it tries to be too many things (shooter, stealth etc.) and it varies from person to person if it pays off or not.

You can't go wrong with either but Xillia 2 comes out next year so I'd recommend Xillia so that if you like it, you have the sequel to look forward to. :)

Wow, thanks for your opinion Winner, its also very helpful.  I had been thinking a lot about Tales of Xilia, so I might get that one, but only time can tell. :P

Well, I've got all of them, (haven't beaten any of them yet, though) and here's my take.

Xillia is great. I've only put about 17 hours into, and it has already become my second favorite Tales of game, behind Tales of the Abyss. I've found that Tales of games normally take a while to actually get interesting. Vesperia, for example, is really boring for the first 7 hours (Abyss is boring for around the first 4 to 5). Xillia, though, doesn't take very long to get interesting as things get moving within the first hour. The main characters are all good as well, being my second favorite cast of the Tales of games I've played (again, behind Abyss). The battle system is really good, but I would recommend looking up a few game-play videos instead of me explaining it. The only thing that I don't like is that nearly all the alternate costumes for the characters are DLC (and a bit on the expensive side). In past games, all of these costumes could be unlocked in-game through side-quests and challenges. Luckily, there are these things called Attachments that will alter the look of your character in game, and they do a decent job. There is a free DLC costume set of palate swapped versions of the characters' normal clothing, and some of them look better (especially Elize's). Some people don't like the English voice acting in the game, but I personally think it's fine.

The Last of Us is really good. This is coming from someone who hates shooters, stealth, and zombies. I'm playing it on the easiest difficulty with every single help setting that there is turned on, and I still die a lot. The story, while not that unique from any other zombie apocalypse setting, is good nonetheless, and it definitely keeps me on my toes. It has a great emotional impact, plenty of suspense, and a fair share of excitement. The voice acting is top notch. The game rewards you for exploring, as that's the best way to get materials that allow you to craft items such as health restorers and shivs (both of which are pretty vital to survival), as well as upgrading your weapons and your stats. And, though you wouldn't expect it, there are a few humorous moments as well (and, at least in my opinion, they are genuinely funny).

Batman, however, is a game that I just wouldn't recommend. I've actually got all three Arkham games (the first two were gifts, and Origins came with my PS3). I just could not get into the game-play, and I don't particularly care for the story or characters. I've heard Origins is the weakest of the three, and having tried the others, I just can't even bring myself to try it.

Just out of my own tastes and biases, I would recommend Tales of Xillia over the other two. However, The Last of Us is absolutely worth owning as well. Xillia will definitely last longer (just looking at the single player aspects of both).

Thanks for the recommendation!  Tales so far is going for the win. :)
