I've been thinking (I do that sometimes) and I am hoping they give Mickey some more depth in Kh3. Specifically I am hoping for them to tie in Mickey's rivals to his rise to becoming King Mickey. The two biggest rivals he has ever had are Mortimer Mouse and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. 

 

Mortimer Mouse was at one point a major rival for Minnie's affections and though Mickey clearly won out in the end the tension is still palpable between these two. Here is a clip of an old video showing Mortimer getting Minnie all hot and bothered and Mickey getting hella pissed off

Mortimer could of at one point been vying for the role of king as well as Keyblade master. 

 

Oswald The lucky rabbit on the the other hand could of held the title of King (if they had that back then) first before Mickey but had lost it to him a long time ago and was lost to darkness. How and/or why Mickey went about taking the throne would be interesting to see. 

 

All and all it would bring some new demensions into the good Magesty's character and I hope they bring these two rivals into play. 

I don't think that would be a good idea . After all , much attention has been given to Mickey as he is a Guardian Of Light . Something like that happened in DDD with The Three Musketeers ,a story different from Kingdom Hearts ,which also included Mickey,Donald and Goofy .

All the more reason why they need to expand his character. Because he has such a crucial role in the story, adding some of the darker elements of his past would only strengthen this. 

I liked your idea but sadly one of the reasons why King Mickey appears rarely in KH is just to take the spotlights out of him in KH series. Which also reflects to your idea since it will give more attention to him.

I thought it was only because Disney limits Square on what they can actually do with their mascot?

Now that may be a possibility, but they already have turned Pete into a bad guy and they always have portrayed Mortimer as a troll for mickey, Oswald also was the antagonist of Epic mickey so they can use him as a bad guy again.

That would be awesome, Maybe have Julius vs Pete? Pete bad but he isn't Julius level bad. 

Not to mention Julius took over Mickey at one point

I actually wished if Riku fought Julius in Mickey's form and Sora with Juilius normal form in KH3D, it would've been cooler to have two different optional bosses.

About Mortimer, it would really fits if he was in the bad guys

Yes! I totally agree! 

I would like it better if Oswald gave up his throne to master the Darkness since he thought it was better if used right.
