Red Roads ( 1 X 1 With Josh Wilson )

Posted

RATED: 17 For Vampire Violence, action, and language.

A gas station, off the main road.

Dirty place, with a rusted out tin roof and toothless shop keep.

In a dingy bathroom in the back, a fan rattling and humming in the open window, two teen aged guys argued in the dim heat of the afternoon.

" It wasn't my fault, Jack ,you KNOW that! "

Jamie looked down at the floor, seated on the toilet in the stall, waiting for Jack to finish applying the dye to his hair.

His own black hair was now a rich white, with honey blonde high lights, leather gloves without fingers on his hands.

" What are we going to do? Keep running? They'll catch us in the end..."

He looked up, a single tear running down his cheek.

" Won't they?"

" I don't know.... I..." Jamie stood, pacing before the closed window, holding his elbows, red streaks drying to a crust on his cheeks.

" I don't know anyone... all my friends at school.." He fell silent, knowing it wasn't the time.

" I don't know. "

Jack got up. "I just can't stand you right now..." Jamie's complaining, and his actions had doomed them both.... To a life on the lam... "I'm going out... And you better stop whining!"

The door slammed, and Jamie rushed to the window to watch the car take off into the night, headlights cutting a path through the darkness.

He laid back on the bed for a while, but noise made him look up: faint guitar music.

He peeped out the window, and spotted a long haired guy by the road side, strumming away.

His throat burned, and Jamie swallowed dryly as he unlocked the door.

He walked up on the guy, soft and quiet on the gravel, his fangs nipping his lower lip as he went, bringing thin blood.

With a flick of his wrist, he broke the guys neck, the vein's bulging.

Digging his fangs in, he quickly drained him, sighing and grunting in pleasure.

Wiping his mouth, he went back, blood running down his front.

In the small bathroom, he stared at himself in the mirror.

" AHHHHHHHHHH!"He shrieked, punching the glass hard, scraping his knuckles raw, shattering the glass.

He punched it over and over, blood pouring from his hand, glass shards everywhere.

Non~lethal wounds didn't heal, but others did, as a glass shard sliced his wrist.

He was still standing there, cutting his skin with a glass shard over and over, as it re~healed again and again, when Jack came back in.

"What the hell are you doing!" He grabbed his brothers hand mid stab. "Are you crazy!" He looked at the mess. "Jesus... I can't leave you alone..." He opened a duffel bag full of mini crates of blood, 12 in total. He saw the blood on Jamie's mouth. "Let's hope no one saw you... God forbid we-" he saw a bat figure in the sky. "Damn...get down!"

Jamie was still out of it, but he crouched low, whimpering. " Jack...."

"What?" Jack responded. The Baathists went into the alley. Out popped a man out of the alley, not but a year older than him. He observed the body. "Great..." Mac said, still waiting "Did you dispose the body?"

Jamie blinked. " Body.... body..." He was out of it, not thinking clearly, barely able to speak. " My wrist hurts, Jack...."

"Well, you punched glass, so...." He groaned. "Why did I get the brother with the mental capacity and self restraint of a four year old!" He peeked out to see the man.

Right in front of the window. "Shi-"

Immediately, the hand smashed through the window, grabbed Jack, and yanked him through.

Jamie watched, but kept low, knowing Jack would've wanted him to do so, like a good boy.

He hugged his knees, hiding below the window's ledge, hoping no one saw him, hoping no one heard him.

He just wanted to go home.

But you burned your last escape when you killed that girl.

Even his mind was rebelling against him.

He hugged his knees tight, curling into a ball, and cried red tears, wondering what was going on outside.

Jack was tossed against the wall. "Well..." Jack said. "Dad told us about you... 'Hunters of the lost...'" The man paid no mind. He kneed Jack I the stomach, followed by a punch to the right, knocking him down. Jack took a nearby shard of glass, and swiped at the neck of the man.

Jamie heard glass shatter, punches thrown, blows landing.

" Mom...." He whimpered, hugging his knees.

Even though it was a hit, the monster kept going, as if possessed. The man blocked the oncoming second swing from Jack with one hand, and pinned him to the wall with the other. "Jamie!" Jack said through gasps. "Get off your ass and help!" He tried to get out, but no dice.

" J...Jack?" Jamie cried, getting to his feet. He saw the man swing at Jack's face: it connected, blood welling up.

" GET AWAY FROM MY BROTHER, YOU BASTARD!!! " He yelled.

Rage overtook him then: he leapt through the shattered remains of the window, and bit into the man's neck, latching on like a leech, sucking his veins dry.

Jack caught his breath, and staggered up, and walked to the vampire. He grabbed Jamie off him, and picked up the two bodes. "Now..." He said "Let's set this right, okay?" He went to get the keys to the car. "Make sure no one sees this... I'll bring around the car."

Jamie pretended to be waiting for someone, hiding the bodies behind him. He waited, his thoughts dark, words tossing through his mind like fireflies.

Killer

Monster

Vampire.....

Jack pulled around the corner, and opened the trunk. "Let's do this..." He lifted one of the bodies. "You take the other.." He saw some woods on the way there.... That would be good.

Jamie picked up the body, tossing it in the trunk.

He then gripped Jack's waist, hugging him close: he smelled of sweat and road dust.

" Jack... I'm so sorry...everything... it's all my fault. Don't hate me... " he hitched his breath. " Please don't hate me... you're all I have..."

Jack faked a smile. "Of course... You're my brother..." Jacks anger had subsided. He realized that Jamie needed help as well. Jack knew that... He also knew that a clan was out for THIER blood... And he'd have to get over it fast.

" Jack... where are we going to go? " Jamie said, stepping back. He felt ashamed, but said the truth: " I'm scared. "

He went and got the luggage. "We are disposing of this body... Then we are going to another city. Again..." He put the luggage in the backseat, and got in the car. "Then, we pray something good happens. Like we meet someone..."

" Ok... wait..." Jamie got out his cell. " I know a guy....next town over... we can.... I mean..stay there...."

Jamie looked at Jack, blinking back tears. " Am I a monster?"

"No." Jack said. "You just... Lost control, okay? If it was not you, then some other vamp would have done it. Not there, mind you, but... Look, you're not the first, is what I am saying, okay!?" He got near the woods. "Now, we go in deep, dump the bodies." No one was out this late, so no one was around.

Jamie lugged the body along, following Jack into the woods, still realing from the whole long, horrible day.

When they were deep enough, Jack looked at his brother. "Here." He dumped the body into the deep looking pond nearby. "Now, where's your friend?"

" Tallahassee?" Jamie asked carefully: two days drive.
