Red Roads ( 1 X 1 With Josh Wilson )

Posted

RATED: 17 For Vampire Violence, action, and language.

A gas station, off the main road.

Dirty place, with a rusted out tin roof and toothless shop keep.

In a dingy bathroom in the back, a fan rattling and humming in the open window, two teen aged guys argued in the dim heat of the afternoon.

" It wasn't my fault, Jack ,you KNOW that! "

Jamie looked down at the floor, seated on the toilet in the stall, waiting for Jack to finish applying the dye to his hair.

His own black hair was now a rich white, with honey blonde high lights, leather gloves without fingers on his hands.

" What are we going to do? Keep running? They'll catch us in the end..."

He looked up, a single tear running down his cheek.

" Won't they?"

" They were.... harvesters. They were going to..." He swallowed, throat dry. " Drain me. "

"What did they look like?" Jack said. He had heard of different groups of harvesters...

Dammit. The way Jamie looked, Jack knew he would go into blood rage soon... Vampire blood was good for donations at blood banks... Or rituals. Not good for feeding...

" They...I don't know... they wore masks."

Jamie rubbed his head. " Hurts...."

"Ok..." The trail was cold then... If He saw only The masks, it was no importance. They used contagion masks, the ones that you buy at Walgreens when you are sick or in construction...

His ex taught him that much.

"Jamie…" Jack said to his brother. "I need you to hold on, okay? Don't think about your hunger, or anything that might trigger your rage... We will get something soon, I promise...."

" I...ok....I'll try..."

He moaned, rubbing his forehead. " Hurts...."

He looked out at the dark night, headlights streaming by them on the road, the moon hung indifferently in the black sky above, and thought of everything that had happened.

Two days.... right? Or two weeks?

Time meant nothing....

All he knew was hurt.

Jack soon ran out of gas. It was his fault for not checking the car. "Jamie..." He pulled up in his car to the station. "I'm going to pay for gas, okay? Just hang tight." He looked at his brother. "Ignore the hurt, alright? Close your eyes if need be."

Jamie did, listening to the whispers echoing in his brain, the pain softening as they waned and screamed.

Like souls of the damned, they called to him, another soul to the call.

He went to them, listening....

Ready to obey.

Jack came back a couple minutes later. He had a bit of a scuffle with the clerk. "Goddamn..." He saw the car. Sans Jamie... Damn! "JAIMIE!" He dashed away, whilst locking the car. Should have done that before...

Jamie walked through the dark cornfield, listening to the voices.

Deeper, Jamie... go further.

The sounds of traffic seemed dulled by the flickering stalks, a cold breeze whistling through them, the sound almost like whispering in its own right.

A little further.... just a little....

"Jamie?" He looked around the town. He was probably going to feed... And that would be a blood bath.

Jamie came to the center: where he was supposed to be.

He looked up at the moon.

Yes, Jamie...give in...

His teeth clenched, bringing thin blood on his lips, as he took off towards town, harsh growls coming from the back of his throat.

He was animaistic, deranged: unhinged.

Jamie wasn't there anymore.

"Where the hell are you?" Jack said, looking around. He couldn't imagine what was going on in Jamie's mind…

Jamie clutched the girl to him, but not in a sexual way: his fangs dug into the soft flesh of her neck, slicing the vein there.

He drank deep, her struggles lessening to nothing, until she stilled, going limp.

He dropped her, and ran a hand across his lips, smearing them with red.

He smiled, his teeth glinting redly in the light of the moon, then took off into the night.

Jack saw his brother from a distance, and ran towards him. "Jamie!" Jack yelled at his brother. He knew something was wrong.

Jamie turned, snarling.

What.... it was another, a vamp, no good, need blood....

He took off, faster than any human could, blood trailing behind him from red slicked hands.

Jack traveled behind. Jamie needed blood, that was for sure. Jack saw a hospital nearby. A small one. But Jamie needed to be restrained. "JAMIE!" Jack screamed "Fight it! Calm down! It's your brother, Jack! You're letting the hunger take control! Say something!"

Jamie snarled, deep, throaty....

inhuman.

He turned on Jack, latching onto his neck like a parasite, and bit down.

Jack clenched his teeth at the pain, "GET...OFF!" He yanked his brothers head off, and pinned him by the throat, slamming him on the sidewalk. "Now…" he struggled to keep him down. "Let's talk." The purpose was to make him lose air, chocke him out..

" Blood.... blooood..." Jamie wailed, flailing around like an eel, hissing derangedly.

" Oh my god, is he ok?"

A woman, mid twenties, with dyed red hair had seen them: she was coming close.

Jamie's eyes opened, and he grinned, his jaw unlocking to create a ghastly shark mouth.

" blood...."

"Just a bit drunk!" He yelled, struggling to hold Jack back. "He loves his vampire stories!" He chuckled.

Jamie struggled.

" blooodddd..." He moaned, hissing.

His nails had stretched, ripping the flesh as they came, blood dripping from his fingers.

He looked at the girl. "Don't you have somewhere to go?" He grabbed Jamie's mouth, and closed it with the free hand. "Don't keep us holding you!" Jamie was running on steam.... He hoped.

The girl stared. " Dude. rehab much?"

She walked off.

" Come baaaaaccckkkkkk....." Jamie hissed.

"Jamie..." He whispers "Tell me this. What is your name?" Now was a good a time as any to test his mental state.

" Gaaarrgghhhhh!" He hissed, twisting in his brother's grasp, scratching his arms, leaving bone poking through.
