Midnight Club II, released in April 2003 for the PS2, received many good ratings when it came out. Is it worth your while?
I'll say it now. This is my favourite racing game of all time. The racing concept is a bit like Need for Speed, but this game was developed by Rockstar. So, as you'd expect, this is a sandbox racing game. The amount of cheat codes in this game is overwhelming as well
Concept
This is your typical racing game. You go through checkpoints until you finish the race. The thing is that there are no barriers, so you choose which path you want to take. It's a wide open city, you have loads of paths to choose from.
You will race against various racers (and they always talk with you before the race, and think out loud as well), and once you beat all of their races, you will get their car. The cars don't need any adjustments, you race them as they are. Although you can change their color.
You beat racers throughout Los Angeles, Paris and Tokyo, facing off their respective champions once you beat all of the other racers. Once you beat everyone, you can face off the World Champion, and become the very best!
Gameplay
It's very alike to Need for Speed, although this game is hard. Very hard. If you make a mistake once, most probably you'll have to restart the race. Especially in the second half of the game.
The traffic in the cities, and the weather won't help you most of the times. If the traffic is high, and if it's raining, expect a very hard race. But that's the thing. Once you beat the game, you'll feel satisfied. You get loads of rewards for doing so, and you'll feel like the best
Drifting is hard on most vehicles, but some of them can speed up through the roof by doing something called the "Fishtail". The World Champion's car is the best at doing it, and the "Fishtail" is almost mandatory in online gameplay. You'll really like the Online Mode if you're looking for a hard challenge (:
Graphics
For a 2003 PS2 game, this game looks really clean, especially the racers's faces. Just look at this
It still has that "gamelike" graphics, but for that time it was awesome.
Soundtrack
The soundtrack you hear depends of on what city you are. If you are in L.A, you'll hear Rap, in Paris you'll hear House/Electro, and in Tokyo you'll hear Techno/HardTechno.
From Newbie to No Comment, I give this game a Legendary (:
Despite the difficulty spike in the second half of the game, I think people really like this game. If you're looking for a great racing challenge, Midnight Club II's just the game for you (:

Most of the soundtrack is amazing, like these:
Rap

House/Electro

Techno/Hard Techno

I still bump my head to those songs
