Square Enix is "definitely interested" in bringing the FINAL FANTASY series to PC, beyond MMO's like FFXIV and rereleases of old games such as FFVII.

It's a series whose heritage is on console, but according to Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase, that may change.

"Let's not forget, when we developed the Final Fantasy 13 series, all three titles, at the early stages of development we were working on PC," Kitase told Eurogamer.

"Then we had to port it to the consoles. As far as the technology is concerned, it would have been possible for us to make a PC version, but we decided against it for two reasons: we looked at the market situation and we didn't think it would be a good idea, and also it would have involved lots of complex issues like security. So we decided not to do it this time around.

"But we see potential in it and there are lots of regions and countries where PC is very strong. So in terms of our hope of being able to deliver our games to every single country in the world and to as many gamers as possible, yes, we would definitely be interested in pursuing that route in the future."

It seems like Square Enix actually cares about non-Japanese markets a little bit. I have always thought that SE wouldn't release major, non-MMO FINAL FANTASY games for PC (because of the lack of PC gaming in Japan) but this statement gives me hope.

Square Enix's desire for Kingdom Hearts to be on PC is uncertain, however, as no canon game has been legally available on PC.

I would love for KH3 to be on PC, that way I won't have to shell out a ton of money and buy a PS4 just to play it.

Me too (: if they're both on PC then I have no reason to buy a console and instead can upgrade my GPU... I would probably still buy a PS4 sometime to play exclusives, but it wouldn't have to be until later on this gen. I would probably get a Wii U instead.

I saw this last night, just not really news.

To you, maybe not. To people who are into PC gaming and Final Fantasy it is.

I didn't say that, I said in general. It's common knowledge that the XIII games and XV can run on PC and Square Enix release plenty of their latest games on PC look at Tomb Raider, Hitman, Sleeping Dogs and even FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs, and Hitman are all developed by Western studios, they are simply published by Square Enix. This is news because it is Square Enix expressing an interest in PC development for their new single player JRPGs. Square Enix have released their old games on most platforms, so that can't be used as evidence of their future plans for the series.

They already run on PC, Square Enix can easily release them on PC this is common knowledge.

Every game can run on PC, as that is where 99% of development happens. That doesn't make this news any less significant. They haven't publicly announced their desire for upcoming FF games to be on PC (outside of MMO games) until now so it is technically news.

It's the same if Sony announced their desire for PC development. If they said they were interested in bringing PlayStation Now to PC it would be news, as it means that a non-Sony platform would have access to Sony games. Gaikai was originally a PC exclusive company, and all Sony games are developed on PC, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be news simply because it's "possible".
