Now, many of you might have read online that DragonBall Kai is going to air once again on Japanese TV starting in April, and it's going to replace the timeslot of Toriko, which is also confirmed to be cancelled.
Alot of people are mixed about this: either fans are angry that the anime is cancelled in favor of showing DragonBall just because "it's the same old story again" and it's "taking time away from a newer series"... I'd counter those arguments but you already know what I'm going to say. In fact, anybody with a brain knows why those two statements are bull. Anyways, the other half are glad that the anime is ending due to what how drastically different the anime is from the manga. Why is that? Let me explain.
There are vast differences between Toriko the anime, and Toriko the manga. that being that the manga of Toriko is very intense, violent, and has a habit of showing gore. Meanwhile, the anime of Toriko is more kid-friendly, and all the content involving the more mature elements I mentioned earlier are... uh... toned down, so to speak. Also, the anime has an exclusive character named Tina: she is a news reporter and periodically follows Toriko around in his adventures. She also does the closer for each episode as well the preview for the next episode in a "news bulletin" type fashion. Her gripes are that, well, every gripe that people tend to give to a female anime character: She's "annoying". I admit, even with the limited amount of episodes of Toriko I've seen, I've had my moments where I wanted Tina to get the f**k off the screen, but really, she's not as bad as you might think. Her main role to be in the anime in the first place is help with exposition anyway, so it's not really a big deal. The censorship isn't that big a deal either. I mean, when it comes to adapting manga to anime, its common to tone down elements of mature content to help make it appeal to a wider audience. See the anime adaptions of One Piece and both the anime adpations for DragonBall (Z) and Naruto.
So, for the time being it seems like Toriko the anime is going to be in the toilet for now. Still, would it be wise to bring it back in the future? We've seen anime like Bleach and Fairy Tail fall on hard times, and yet while Bleach has no confirmed plans of returning, fans are still rallying behind it, and Fairy Tail has gotten a new series greenlit altogether. I mean, sure, I've done my research, and I see the changes between manga and anime and I understand the complaints from both sides. Really, it's not as bad as you might think, and as far as censorship goes, we've seen worse. WAY worse.
I also admit Toriko was being sold as Toei's new heavy hitter and that it was kinda shoved down the throats of anime goers in its run, with that obviously being flawed by the anime's cut content, but still, Toriko as a whole deserves that type of recognition. Its a really great series, anime and all. So what do you think, I ask anybody that is willing to actually answer ( ), what do yo think of this news and should Toriko get another anime run? Also what do you think about anime censorship in comparison to its original manga in general?
