Naruto: Legacy of the Uzumaki Clan

Posted

So, yeah... I got bored, and decided to go ahead and write. This is something I've been thinking about for a while, but I just now got it typed out. This is meant to take place 16 years after the current arc in Naruto Shippuden, with Naruto becoming the new Hokage. Anyway... Hope you enjoy! (And I hope I'll actually type out more than two chapters of something for once...)

Prologue

It is said that each generation has a prodigy child; someone who rises far above the rest. The shinobi world has had many of these prodigies. Madara Uchiha, Kakashi Hatake, Itachi Uchiha, Naruto Uzumaki… the list goes on and on. One of those prodigies, Naruto Uzumaki, is famed for being the cause of the Allied Shinobi Force’s victory in the Fourth Great Shinobi War, and brought true peace and unity to the shinobi world. There are many who thought that this peace would last forever, and that the five great nations would remain united. However, they were soon proven wrong. As each generation eventually grows stronger than the previous, it would take a new prodigy to settle the score and bring back peace…

“I’m home!” A young, red-haired girl called to her mother, having returned from running errands in the Village Hidden in the Leaves, or Konoha.

“Oh, Yumi! Thank you so much for going out and helping me with food.” Her mother replied, taking a few bags of food from her daughter. “I’ve been so busy lately; I haven’t even had time to go out to the store… It makes me so proud that you could take time out of your schedule to help your mother, even so shortly after becoming a jonin!” The woman hugged Yumi tightly.

“Mom, you’re embarrassing me!” Yumi looked slightly embarrassed, but was stifling a giggle.

“Oh, I’m sorry…” Her mother let go, pushing her glasses up shortly after doing so. “I’m just so proud of everything you’ve done… You became a jonin at the age of 13! You’ve grown so much faster than I did when I was a shinobi…” She began to tear up a bit. A knock on the door shook her out of her emotional state. “Come in!” She called to whoever was outside.

“It’s been a while, hasn’t it, Karin?” A man with black, spiky hair entered the house, and gave Yumi’s mother a quick wave.

“Oh, Sasuke!  I haven’t seen you in a while! I heard that the Hokage’s been keeping you busy.” Karin grinned. “So, what brings you here?” She asked the shinobi.

“Oh, just wanted to see how you were doing. I heard that your daughter just became a jonin today, too. Naruto’s had so many missions for me; I haven’t had the time to see Yumi in a while.” He walked over to Yumi, and smiled. “Heh… This next generation’s certainly progressing fast. Your growth in particular has been really impressive, Yumi.” The jonin complimented his friend’s daughter.

Yumi blushed a bit; surprised that Sasuke had visited just to see her. “Yep! I’ll become a great ninja like mom was! It’s my job to keep the Uzumaki clan strong, after all!” She grinned in determination. Sasuke laughed a bit.

“Right. Well, good luck Yumi. You’re mother’s counting on you.” Sasuke patted the girl on the head, and turned back to the door. “Sorry I could talk much, Karin. I’ve got a mission I have to leave for soon, I only had the time to come and check in. I promise that I’ll manage to find some time to talk to you more soon.” He apologized, and left.

“Alright. See you later, Sasuke!” Karin waved to her friend as he left. “Now then… I’ll make dinner really quick, then you’ll have to head to bed, Yumi. You might be a jonin now, but you’re still young!” Her mother teased her a bit, and then went off to make dinner…

Yumi lay still in her bed, unable to sleep. Of course, she was excited about her new rank. She was on the same level as those who were 10, even 20 years older than her. However, she also thought about her new responsibilities. She was already responsible for her family’s income, due to her father having died on a mission shortly before her birth. Her mother had quit her career as a shinobi due to guilt from working with rogue ninja, leaving her as the main source of income in the family. Her missions would become even tougher now that she was a jonin, and she was now at a greater risk as a result. She sighed, slightly worried. What if she died on a mission soon? What would her mother do then? She couldn’t leave her on her own… She shook her head. I can’t think like this… I’m jonin for a reason. Everyone says that I’m the most talented ninja of this generation. I’m a leader; I can’t look this weak in front of the others. It would be an insult to them. After what felt like hours, she finally managed to fall asleep…

The next day, Yumi went to the Hokage’s mansion. She’d been assigned a mission already, but she didn’t mind. She was prepared for her first mission as a jonin, even if she didn’t get any rest. “Alright, everyone! We have an important mission chosen for all of you!” The Sixth Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki, announced to the small group of jonin in front of him. “There’s a group of rogue ninja that’s been attacking smaller villages within the Land of Fire. They’ve managed to reach a few already, but it’s your job to intercept them and eliminate them.” He showed a map to the group. “We believe that these areas are their most likely villages to target.” He pointed to a few circles on the map, all of which were identifiable as villages. “We’d like you to check them all in groups of two. If you run into the shinobi, then take them out. You are dismissed!” Yumi and the other jonin all nodded.

Yumi looked around, trying to see if there was anyone who she’d work well with. These people all look like adults… I doubt they’d want to team up with a kid like me. As she gazed around the room, a certain jonin caught her attention. He looked about her age, and seemed to have noticed her looking at him. What? I was told I was the only one from my generation to become jonin so far… What’s he doing here?

“Hey, you want to team up with me?” The boy approached Yumi, startling her as she thought to herself.

“S-sure!” She managed to calm herself down, and held out her hand. “I’m Yumi Uzumaki. You are?”

“I’m Keishu Tate.  Nice to meet you.” He shook Yumi’s hand, and smiled. “Hey… You look pretty young compared to the others here.” He pointed out the obvious.

“You’re one to talk.” Yumi laughed. “I’m only 13… They say I’m a prodigy, having managed to become a jonin so early.”

“I’m 14. I guess I’m not the youngest in the room, then.” The boy smirked. “Anyway… We should probably get moving. I say we go for the last one that Lord Hokage pointed out.” Keishu suggested.

Yumi nodded in response. “Yeah. Let’s get going now; we need to finish this quickly.” The two ran off, and began heading towards the village in question…

Wow, this is a really interesting story.  I have yet to invest myself into the Naruto universe, but from what you've told me, it must be one hell of an anime.  And seeing you write this prologue with such great care and professionalism really impressed me.  I do look forward to seeing you post more chapters of this story, because I for one will certainly be looking forward to reading it. :)
