Well by what Nomura said, once the heartless and nobody are destroyed (given the heartless is destroyed first) the somebody can come back. And seeing as that was done, that must mean Xehanort is now around somewhere. Its just a matter of getting Xehanort out of Terra lol

His heartless wasn't destroyed first though. It's still alive in Riku.

No because once the Kingdom Hearts encoder exploded, it got rid of the last remains of Ansem SoD. And that was before the Xemnas encounter.

It doesn't say that anywhere in the game...

I read it in a Nomura interview somewhere. Plus it's kinda implied because he can't use the darkness anymore.

He uses Darkness a lot in the Final Battle.

He only uses the one attack. Plus mickey says "You don't belong in the dark realm anymore," so no more darkness. Otherwise he would have been able to open the Corridor.

Dark Shield, Dark Firaga, and all the dark attacks he uses in Sora and his Limit.

However, the machine also undoes the majority of the Organization's work on Kingdom Hearts and completely purifies Riku of the presence of Xehanort's Heartless.

The explosion also cleanses Riku's heart and restores Riku to his original form

Any darkness that was in Riku is completely destroyed, including Ansem SOD. The attacks were probably kept because they wanted to keep the battle simple and not give him all new controls (except the Limit, of course).

It bugs me that they made such a big deal about him in KH1 and CoM (Especially with CoM, what with his grand speeches of returning and darkness etc.) and then just killed him without explicitly saying so in KH2 :/

And after all that character development in Chain of Memories about Riku accepting th Darkness, they decide to just remove it.

Seems really weird.

I don't like it.

I don't like it either, but Square does a lot of stuff I don't like. They should have just let him keep Ansem SOD in his heart, somewhere at least. It was cool when he had dark powers.

Since it's the wiki though, I doubt Ansem SoD was permanently expelled from Riku's heart. Sora definitely doesn't have any connection with Terra or Xehanort, but Riku does. If the explosion had caused such unpredictable things to happen, most likely it didn't completely destroy the remnants of Ansem in Riku, which would be vital in freeing Terra from torment.
