Could Wind Waker HD Hint Towards The Art Style For Zelda U?

Posted

Hey all. So normally I don't really care that much about graphics in a game as long as the story is good and the gameplay is awesome. But I decided to maybe come up with a little speculation about the new art style for Zelda U (placeholder title). So you know how back when Nintendo was developing Wind Waker HD (which took about 6 months to make) they said that they were experimenting art styles for the next Zelda game (which is Zelda U)? And how Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword were all part of the planning stages for it? well as you all know Wind Waker's visuals turned out to be the most improved out of the three. So what this could possibly mean is that we might see a art style that is similiar to Wind Waker HD's art style and visuals. Maybe they are trying to take the art style from Skyward Sword and maybe try to improve it by experimenting with Wind Waker HD since that became the end result of what kind of art style they will consider to try out with Zelda U. I don;t know for sure. But like I said, just wanted to speculate a little bit about the art style for the next Zelda game.

I don't know about the graphics, but the art style of zeldau could be a combination of Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess art style. I could be wrong so take this with a grain of salt until it's probably confirmed at e3 oh and the art style for zeldau might be totally different from previous zelda titles.

If the art style in the next zelda was like Wind Waker I WOULD FREAKING LOVE EVERY BIT OF IT!!!!

Nope, Aonuma said it was a totally new, never before seen, art style. Nothing more to it.

Really? Can you show me a s source that confirms this?

Aonuma put it plainly originally as just a "new style," but I think I read somewhere on Gengame, about a year ago, that it was a totally new art style all together. From what we know though, it's more than likely a major change in art direction. Every new title in the series, unless it's a sequel, gets a brand new art style.

That would make sense. That would mean if zeldau gets the new art style that Aonuma wants that means it can't be a sequel or direct sequel to certain games in the timeline. The best example I can think of went a game takes the same art style as it's sequel is the wind waker and Phantom Hourglass. Their graphics are different, but the art style in Phantom Hourglass is based off of the wind waker's art style.

Yep, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks are both sequels to The Wind Waker. Phantom Hourglass being directly after, Spirit Tracks about 100 or so years later. So they follow suit in art style.

I'm excpecting ''realistic'' graphics for Zelda Wii U kinda like Twilight Princess,Hyrule Warrior and Sonic Lost World's Zelda DLC.If they want to show what the Wii U is capable of, cartoon graphics may not be the best way to go about it.Wind Waker HD only had good lighting effects and slightly better textures, but other than that Wind Waker HD has gamecube graphics and I don't really see how they could improve those visuals.

My guess is that Zelda Wii U will have a realistic artsyle, but the story won't be as dark as Twilight Princess or Majora Mask,so the artsyle won't be as gloomy as they were in those games.

I agree with you. Nintendo can do something better than have a cartoony art style.

Wrong. WWHD wasn't running Gamecube graphics, it was running the cel-shaded art style chosen for the original. For the most part, textures and models had been completely remade to the Wii U's liking. Not to mention, it was chosen over Twilight Princess because it was more visually appealing to Aonuma on the Wii U than Twilight Princess, and that goes to say a lot for any realism on the console.

The art style created took influence from the development into The Wind Waker HD. It may be a completely new art direction, but it has a heavy influence from the Wind Waker.

What I meant to say was that other than the lighting effects,it was possible to have that kind of visuals on a gamecube,so I doubt they would reuse the cartoon graphics.
