Posted July 11, 201411 yr I'm thinking about getting P4AU but I don't know if it's a sequel or an expansion of P4A. I never played the first game so will I have to play it to understand this one if it's a sequel?
July 11, 201411 yr Author You should be able to understand it just fine without playing the first one. ok thanks
July 11, 201411 yr It does have DLC though that adds the story of the first game, if you want to check it out. You may want to check out Persona 3 and Persona 4 first though if you haven' already.

I'd check out p3 and p4 whether you're getting it or not since both are absolutely incredible, though depending on how you play games you might get burned out if you try to beat both before september.
July 11, 201411 yr It has DLC like the It's in spoilers because it could spoil the story of Persona 4. Adachi DLC but overall it is a sequel to Persona 4 Arena. Also i'd play both Persona 3 FES then Persona 4 Golden then Persona 4 Arena then Persona 4 Arena Ultimax as that is the time that they all take place in chronologically (I think Persona 3 takes place either at around the same time as Persona 4 or before it) But as Demyx said, you will understand the story fine without playing either of the 3 games prior.
July 11, 201411 yr It is a direct continuation of the story from the first game, so it'll probably be harder to get if you haven't played the first game's story. HOWEVER, I believe the story mode of the first game will be available as DLC, which will probably be cheaper than buying the first game (unless you find it on sale, maybe), so it'd be fine to just buy Ultimax. Of course, if you haven't played Persona 3 and Persona 4, the story won't make much sense anyway. I don't know if you've played them, so that may or may not be an issue. Oh, If you've only played one or the other, you can kinda roll with it (I've only played P4, I have P3 but haven't gotten around to it yet), I was able to follow it okay. Even then, it's a fun game regardless of the story, so you'd still probably be able to enjoy it. Edited July 11, 201411 yr by DragonMaster
