I know why they would do it for one to be used as a cow herder, because cows or whatever could step on the tails, but why even the ones just to be used as pets? I always thought that was weird. Even when we picked up my Australian Cattle Dog as a puppy she had her tail docked.

I wonder this as well. I thinks it's mostly just because, at this point, the expectation for the breed is a docked tail. The image of these dogs that people have in their minds is that they have docked tails, so to see one with a tail would be strange (even though that is their natural state).

 

At least, that's my best guess. I don't really see the point for those that are just going to be pets.

I haven't the slightest clue.
