Comics One More Day - Possibly The Stupidest Spider-Man Story EVER!

Recommended Posts

Have you guys ever heard of One More Day? Y'know, the infamous Spider-Man storyline where the aforementioned title character makes a deal with Mephisto. The freaking DEVIL!

I was watching a Linkara review of this storyline and there was one scene in the comic that pissed me off more than the ending, a scene where an alternate version of Peter Parker, one where he wasnt bitten by the spider and became a video game designer sometime after graduating.

You might think at first that this alternate version of him might seem interesting, but in hindsight this version is completely unlikeable. In that scene i mentioned earlier, he was literally saying that the reason we get into Video Games and other forms of escapist fiction is because we're all pathetic losers.

Yeah, you heard me right! This whole story is just insulting to not just comic book fans, but me also! A person who grew up watching Power Rangers, and the Spider-Man movies is insulted by a cherished icon from his childhood, directly saying to him that people who like escapist fction are losers (i know i said it twice but i dont care)

Im just speechless how this story sucks so much! And guess what, almost every scene in it is literally pointless to the main story! F@&€ YOU, JOE QUESADA!!!

Most people agree either this or Clone Saga were the worst storylines of Spiderman. I subscribe to Clone Saga being worse in my opinion. It did give us Kain but it took years to resolve,

At least the Clone Saga had some positive elements to it and actually resolved. One More Day ruined the Spider-Man comic book forever for me, trying to make Peter like a douchy, older version of the Ultimate Spider-Man. His character had never changed in the several years since getting married, so instead of trying to progress his character a little bit more, Marvel instead decided to softly reboot him into basically being a teenager again, effectively erasing YEARS of comic books because Spider-Man can't grow up. It is so bad.

I think there were probably "stupider" stories, but I don't think they had lasting effects.Kind of like how Kaweebo said, can't the just let Peter grow up already? I am not saying "GET MORE DARK AND EDGY!" I am saying, "STOP ACTING LIKE A TEEN AND GROW UP." I am not suggesting he should become super serious or stop doing wisecracks, just that he "mans up" a little bit. That being said...

They should have found a better way for his Aunt May to be dying without chance of being saved. I know she was old, but it was a bullet wound and he CONSULTED BASICALLY EVERYONE IN THE MARVEL UNIVERSE INCLUDING DOCTOR DOOM! (all claiming they couldn't save her)Doom of all people probably would have jumped at the chance to save her, assuming Peter would do a favor for him at a later date. Though he might have put in some cybernetics and a killswitch to insure Peter does what he says.

Also Peter and MJ should have asked Mephisto for one thing in trade for the one more day...Aunt May's opinion on what they should do.

Yes Clone Saga resolved but the only reason it resolved the way it did was because fans rebelled. It took many years to actually get to a resolution. On top of that, it tried to replace Spider-man with the Scarlet Spider just because of the marriage issue. I find One More Day just more painless since it is a soft ret-con even though yes it does take out years of character development.
