Good Gameplay Recording Device?

Posted

I've been wanting to do gameplay videos on Youtube for a long time now, but as many others who have looked into the field may have also found, it's not easy to record footage. I want a good, cheap capture device (Preferably ~$50), but have absolutely no clue what works. Does anyone have any good suggestions?

  • Price range up to $60 is preferred.
  • I'd like something that can record HD footage
  • Has to work with Nintendo and Sony systems

Well, there aren't any HD capture cards that are $60.00 and under.A lot of them are about $150.00 with tax included. But since you're trying to get into doing Let's Plays/Walkthroughs than I suggest getting beginner capture cards like the Dazzle DVD recorder, or Roxio Game Capture. As those two capture cards are pretty cheap to buy since you're looking for a capture card that doesn't go past $60.00

The only thing that comes to mind is the Roxio Game Capture, which is like 80$ i think.

An Roxio Game Capture HD Pro is a bit more expensive

The best thing you can do for your price range is just shop around and see what works.

But if youre willing to spend $150-160 an Elgato is one of the best capture devices on the market.

I'm looking at the Roxio (There were too many Dazzle ones, didn't know which was good). The price seems good, but it only lists Xbox 360 and PS3 as the possible consoles it works with. Does it also record footage from PS2 and Wii/Wii U games?

PS2 games, i doubt, but wii and WIi U, well, with the Wii U i think you can, but the Wii, think you need a specific cord.

Ah, alright. Thanks! I think I'll go with that one, I can probably just use the Wii menu on the Wii U for Wii games.

From what I've seen on YouTube videos. You can. You just have to find the right video that shows you how to do so. Here's a video that shows off how to record PS2 with the Roxio Game Capture.

Here's a tutorial on how to set it up on Wii

And here's one for Wii U:

Alright, thanks! I'll save these for when I can get a Roxio.

You're welcome. So...how much money do you have saved up for the Roxio right now?

It's an investment for later, not now. There are a lot of games coming later this year that I need to get still. xD

Ah, I see lol. What games do you plan on buying if I may ask? :P

Both versions of Smash Bros, Pokemon Omega Ruby, and the new Ninja Storm game. I probably won't be able to get the Roxio until December, but I still wanted to get a good idea of what works for me. xD

Elgato.
