Darkseid sat on his throne, staring at a Key shaped sword in a hologram, as well as other surrounding holograms of  silver haired and brown haired teenagers, fighting off monsters with extraordinary skills.

 

"Key-blade....you will be mine." 

 

Steppenwolf entered the throne room and kneeled before his master.

 

"You summoned me, Lord Darkseid?" 

 

"I have sent a battalion of Parademons to a certain location, you however are to go to a different locale, one called Destiny Islands. You are to bring back an object called a Keyblade, or retrieve a person who wields one...and bring them back here. Understood?" 

 

Steppenwolf nodded. 

 

Darkseid's eyes glowed red and shot out beams of light into the air, making a portal that Steppenwolf leaped through.

On Destiny Island, Sora lounged in the sun. Laying with his hands behind his head, on the sands of the beach, he doubted he could feel more comfortable. He yawned and closed his eyes. A few seconds later, water was dumped on his head. He came up sputtering, and looked over with one eye at his two best friends, Riku and Kairi. Riku, a tall young man with white hair, was laughing at Sora's dousing. Kairi, a young lady with red hair, gave Sora a fake stern look.

"Sora, you lazy bum." Kairi called over to him. "You are suppose to help me train, not take naps."

"With that kind of aim, you don't need my help." Sora called back, knocking some of he water out of his ear.

Riku managed composed himself, but was still grinning slightly, and gave his student's work a critical eye.

"Your use of a Water spell was good." He said. "Though maybe cast it a little higher to ensure your target isn't hurt by it."

Kairi smiled and twirled her Keyblade. She was still learning how to use it and magic, but she grasped certain techniques quite well. She wasn't near as proficient as her more experienced friends, but she was working at it.

"I'll definitely need to learn a bigger one for next time." She teased.

Sora chuckled as he got up and jogged to his friends. It was good to be back on the island with them. They would all be needed to save the worlds again in the future, but for now, this was good.

"Sorry. I guess I shouldn't have stayed up to watch that movie last night." He admitted. "And it wasn't even like-"

The spiky haired teen stopped in mid-sentence as he felt something...odd. He turned and saw a portal forming on one of the other islands. Both Riku and Kairi saw it and looked puzzled.

"You boys expecting anybody?" Kairi asked.

"Nope." Sora answered promptly.

"No." Riku replied, sounding thoughtful.

None of the trio could make out who came through, just that someone did.

"I'll go check it out." Sora volunteered, then ran for his boat.

"I'm coming too." Kairi called.

"Whoa!" Riku said, putting out a hand to stop Kairi. "You still have some block drills to show me."

Kairi made a face, but did as her teacher told her as Sora rowed over to see the new comer.

Steppenwolf looked over to Sora and chuckled evilly. "Are you the bearer of the weapon known as Keyblade?"

Getting out of his little boat, Sora was caught a little off guard by the newcomer's abrupt question.

"Um, yes." he said. "That's me. My name's Sora. What's yours?"

"My name is Steppenwolf, I serve the ruler of Apokolips..the one and only Darkseid. He seeks the power of the Keyblade, that which you wield. If you and your silver haired companion will not come willingly..." 

 

Three monstrous Parademons appeared behind Steppenwolf, and he smirked. "You get the picture." 

 

It was then that a bright blazing light blasted the Parademons back, and sent Steppenwolf staggering back into the sand. 

 

"What is-?" 

 

A huge vortex appeared in the sky, pulling Kairi, Riku, and Sora towards it...and off the ground. They all heard Yen-Sid's voice calling out to them. "Hurry! There's not much time! The tower was attacked! I'm using my magic to send you to another dimension, Disney Castle has fallen! And if my senses are correct, the other worlds have come under attack as well! You are to travel through this new dimension...surely there are heroes there to help defeat this...Darkseid!" 

 

With a flash....the vortex closed behind them.

Sora summoned his Keyblade as the Parademons appeared by Steppenwolf.

"What makes you-" Sora started to say when, the vortex opened above him.

Sora was yanked off the ground and went tumbling upwards.

"Not again!" He yelled as he was sucked in.

He saw Riku and Kairi being sucked in with him as they all heard Yen Sid's voice.

"Is this how you start all your adventures?" Kairi shouted.

"The first one, anyway." Sora shouted back.

He reached out and grabbed Kairi's hand.

"But this time, we all go together."

Riku reached out and took Kairi's hand. With some reaching, Sora and Riku managed to join hands.

"Together." The dark master said.

Bruce was struggling to get to sleep, he kept having visions of...bats...until his eyes shot open by a loud banging on the front door of the manor.

Looking at the time, the old Bruce Wayne groaned and got out of bed, it was pouring down rain outside...and lightning too.

He grumbled as he slipped on houseshoes and made it to the door before Alfred, looking out the peephole to make sure it wasn't a gang of mutants...could never be too careful.

What he saw was a group of soaked to the bone teenagers, who definitely were not mutants..but were still dressed oddly.

 

He opened the door carefully, but still kept the chain on it. 

 

Hopefully his sheer size would keep them from trying anything.

 

The grey haired Bruce Wayne peered carefully at Sora, Riku, and Kairi. "Can I help you, kids with something?"

"Um" Riku began.

"Yes, we were hoping you could tell us where we are?" Sora asked. "We, um, kind of dropped in the area without a map."

Kairi, not use to this kind of situation as the boys were, gave the older man behind the door a friendly smile. Riku glanced behind them, looking over the grounds to this mansion. Yen Sid said he was sending them to another dimension. If this was it, then what else was different here?

Staring at them for a moment, Bruce shut the door in their faces...making them think he had left them out in the rain thinking they were pranksters.

However the sound of the chain being undone could be heard and soon Bruce opened the door to the three kids, revealing just how tall and broad shouldered he actually was as a man.

Gruffly the man said, "Come on in out of the rain then....I'll have Alfred get you something hot to drink and see if we can't find you some warmer clothes." An elderly man wearing a nightshirt and cap came by, using a cane but it was obvious he had seen some sort of action before and the look in his eyes said 'don't try me'.

"Taking in orphans this late at night, Master Bruce?" 

"I didn't ask." the man, apparently Bruce, said back. He turned to the three kids as Alfred shut the door behind them. "You're in Gotham City, Planet Earth....and you happen to be in Wayne Manor at this point in time. But how could you not know that if you showed up on my doorstep." 

 

"How indeed." Alfred muttered.

 

"Alfred please make our guests some hot soup, I'll try to find them some warmer clothes."  Bruce said to the bald elderly butler.

"Right away." 

 

Bruce went into another room, soon coming out with three pairs of warm clothes for the trio. "Bathrooms are down the hall."

"Um, thanks." Sora said as he, Riku and Kairi sidled into the manor.

Riku was a little alarmed that the man who had invited them specified "Planet Earth." How much did he know about other worlds? Kairi perked up at the mention of a hot soup and warmer clothes. As an islander, she had clothes that dried quickly and was use to waiting for that to come. But this place was cold and a different kind of damp. Sora gave Alfred a smile.

"Nice to meet you, Alfred." he said brightly.

He looked up at the first person he met.

"You too, Bruce."

"Likewise I suppose....erm....what are your names?" Alfred asked politely to the trio.

 

Bruce could be seen in the room adjacent to them, messing with a grandfather clock's wooden side...unknown to him...he was being watched by one of his new arrivals, as one of the walls clicked to reveal a doorway and he pushed open the hidden door, to reveal a set of stairs, walking down it like he had a hundred times over.

"I'm Sora." Sora introduced himself brightly. "And these are my friends, Riku and Kairi."

Kairi, who had been hugging herself against the cold, gave Alfred a little wave.

"Please to meet you." She said politely.

Riku didn't add in Ashe was distracted by Bruce's absence. He sidled over to the room Bruce disappeared to and caught glimpse of him opening the grandfather clock and going down a dark passageway. He narrowed his eyes, but said nothing. He quickly turned his attention to Alfred, hoping no one noticed his prying. What ever they had been dropped into, Riku knew that he, Kairi and Sora were about to start something. That's how it worked.

Alfred then noticed his master's absence and realized Riku had seen the secret entrance. Alfred began to sweat nervously and visibly on his bald head. He grumbled and muttered, "Oh very well...but don't expect much hush money." 

Alfred began to lead them down the stairs of the secret passageway, where they heard a recording of a man whose voice was very similar to Bruce's own:

 

"The last will and testament of the deceased: Thomas Wayne. In the event of my death I hereby declare that all my worldly possessions pass to my son: Bruce Wayne."

 

Alfred began to sniffle and wipe his eyes a bit.

 

"Bruce...I ask that you honor the Wayne family legacy, and commit yourself to the improvement of Gotham City, its institutions and its citizens...Please, be strong. You are young but destined for great things, Make the most of your opportunities. Use them to give back to a city that has given us so much. To change the lives of millions of people...."

 

As they entered the room, the trio saw it was a massive cavern with a supercomputer in the left and an area with glass cases with several costumes, one of which was missing and apparantly the large broad shouldered Bruce was now wearing....it was grey and blue......it made him imposing in the darkness...the shades of blue and grey made him blend in well with the shadows.

 

The recording continued, and they all saw that Bruce was standing there listening to it on the huge computer monitor while staring at a newspaper clipping on the monitor that read "THOMAS AND MARTHA WAYNE MURDERED: NINE YEAR OLD BRUCE WAYNE SOLE HEIR TO WAYNE FORTUNE."

 

"Treat the people of Gotham like family, watch over them, and use this money to safeguard them from forces beyond their control. My deepest regret is that I will not see you grow into the good man I know you will become. And finally my son.....I ask that you never abandon this city to fate. We have lived through dark days, and no doubt there are more. But it is the good and great men who stand up for what is right when others turn and run. ...In death, I will love you forever. Your father - Thomas Wayne."

All three of the teens followed Alfred down through the secret passage in silence. Sora was personally wondering why Alfred had mentioned hush money. Both he and Riku were experienced enough in world traveling to figure they would be dropped somewhere important.

"Particularly if Yen Sid sent us." Sora thought.

Kairi was a little more lost then the boys, but she didn't have much experience with the world traveling side of the Keyblade business. She looked over at Sora, who gap caught her gaze and gave her a thumbs up.

Riku listened to the will of Thomas Wayne carefully. While he didn't understand everything, he did understand the immportant bit when he saw Bruce in costume. This was about righting wrongs.

"Are you still fighting for your city's fate?" The Dark Master asked Bruce when the recording ended.

Bruce, turned his cowl covered head to Riku, "I am officially coming out of retirement of the vigilante business.....or superhero whichever you prefer though I don't like referring to myself as such."

"No! No no no! You're not doing this Bruce!" Alfred stomped over to his master and stared at him worriedly.

 

Bruce clicked a button on the keyboard of the massive supercomputer, and it showed a camera angle of Gotham city, in the background was the city dump..and there seemed to be a gathering.

 

A huge, brutish looking fellow with a mohawk and wrap around shades, was on top of a pile of garbage, waving around a steel pipe that was being used as a torch.

 

He had these young teenagers dressed in different garbs of leather and freaky looking hairstyles, with the shades that he wore.

 

"They call us a gang! Only when they die by our hands, will they KNOW. Gotham City BELONGS TO THE MUTANTS!" Cheers were heard from the gathering below the pile."Take the guns! Take the bombs! Kill and kill! Rape their women! Slaughter their children! I will carry the old man Gordon's head through the streets!" More cheers.Bruce muted the audio, not able to stand it any longer, he turned to the three kids and Alfred.

 

"I know it hurts to see all you worked for, and all your parents worked for...be trampled upon like this. But you have to realize, you're NOT Batman anymore!" Alfred's voice and face hardened, "You're not that hardened vigilante! You're an old man in retirement who has too much anger!" 

 

Bruce scowled under the mask, "What do you see when you look at me Alfred? The same boy who you shined his shoes for his first date!? I am the ONLY one who can do this, people are afraid....but for the wrong reasons. Innocent people are afraid to leave their houses because of the Mutants, they wonder if they'll be next to die. The only people who should be afraid of going out into the dark, are people like these..." Bruce or Batman gestured to the screen, "And they should be afraid because they know that I'm out there...that Batman is out there, and the muggers and thieves and scum of the earth will be breathing easier when the sun rises and banishes the darkness of night." 

 

Alfred stood there and sighed, "I do not want this to be your end....I wanted so much more for you Bruce." 

 

Batman nodded, "It won't be...I promise." He turned to the group of teenagers, as if to say...'you in?"

The trio of teenagers watched the Mutant leader on the screen, all feeling the usual feelings of revoltion that came with meeting the villain of a world. At least he seemed to be the brutish type. Less chance to reason with, but also less likely to have a plan more complex then smashing things.

Sora glanced over at Alfred and Bruce as the Butler tried to persuade his master to not don his cowl once again. He wasn't sure he understood Alfred's arguments, but he understood the underlying concern.

"Hey, we could help with that." He said as Bruce gave him and his friends the look. "Don't worry, Alfred. We can make sure Bruce will be fine."

Riku gave Kairi a worried glance.

"Maybe just me and Sora should-"

"No." Kairi interrupted. "I'm done being left behind or sitting on the sidelines. I'm staying with my friends. Besides, you two learned on the fly. I can too."

Riku thought about pulling rank as Master, but he wasn't sure that would work with Kairi. Besides, it would be best for all three Keyblade Wielders to stick together as much as possible, with that Darkseid guy out for them.

"Alright." He said, giving in. "We are all in."

Sora gave Kairi a thumbs up, then smiled a "here to help" smile to Bruce.

Alfred stopped them before Bruce/Batman could go any further, "It appears the young heir to that Ridley bubblegum fortune....that is...his kidnappers, have received their ransom...but have yet to give the baby up, master Wayne." 

 

Bruce glared at the image on the screen, it showed two young punk dressed boys, and one girl with a mohawk of course, slipping into an abandoned apartment building...holding a gun to a toddler's head to get the police to stay back.

"Stay back! We'll kill the kid!" 

 

Batman's eyes narrowed, "They're not going to let him go, they've got what they wanted....now its just a matter of keeping their word."----Later at the apartment complex---

 

Batman stood with his new accomplices on the roof of the building. "Don't underestimate them because they're young punks, they've probably killed before, our priority is the baby they're holding hostage..everything else is secondary." Batman explained to them as he entered the stairwell.Sneaking his way down to the room, Batman pulled out a device and clicked it...instantly the lights went out throughout the building. "What the hell!? What happened to the lights!?" One of the boys from inside the room cried out.

"Someone's screwin' with us! Ike, go check out the hallway!" the voice said, soon to be followed by a skinny lean boy opening the door and coming out to where our heroes were.

Batman moved at a speed none of them realized he had, and clamped a gloved hand over Ike's mouth tightly, and dragged him over to where they were.Bats then took the large machine gun Ike had been carrying and put him into a headlock. "N-no way! I'm not gonna be your meat shield man!" Ike hissed.

 

Batman tightened his grip on the punk's neck, "You're in no position to argue...now open the door, and if you make a sound to alert them, well...I think you know who I am already. How many ways I can hurt you." 

 

"Jesus, man this wasn't supposed to happen-" 

 

Pressing the barrel of the machine gun against the man's spine, Batman moved him up to the door. 

 

Ike opened the door and his two comrades, one of them holding the baby.  Bruce saw this and pressed the barrel of the gun harder into the man's back."Find anything?" Marlo asked. There was a pause, and suddenly Ike screamed: "The Bat is here! Kill the kid!" 

"Bad move.." Batman growled, throwing Ike forward just as Marlo began to shoot.Ike never stood a chance against the onslaught of gunfire."Ike!? Where are ya!? Jesus man....I think he's dead!" The fear was evident in the teenager's voice.

Riku, the only one of the trio use to anything like Batman's stealth tactics, had Sora and Kairi follow him and be as quite as possible. Sora, while not use to the sneaky approach, adapted well enough. Kairi, much to Riku's pride, also learned fast to what she was to do. With Batman having a "talk" with Ike, Riku had Sora and Kairi take up positions around the room to provide support if necessary.

All three of the teens were horrified when the other Mutants came out and accidentally gunned down one of their own. It was clear to each of them that they had to get the baby away from the others. Sora stepped out of the shadows with his Keyblade raised.

"Stop!" He yelled out.

The spell froze the Mutant holding the baby in time as Riku launched himself through the door and used the flat of his blade to sweep out the legs of the other hostage taker. Sora ran in and grabbed the baby out of the frown ones arms. Kairi stopped at Ike's side, trying to use Cura on the teen to revive him.

Batman grabbed the girl mutant by her collar just as the lights came back on. "Jeez, you're real!?"  she cried.

 

"What's your boss planning?" Batman growled into her face."H-he...." That was when the wall next to them burst open, and a tall pale skinned musclebound figure stood there."All this blustering and you don't even kill them!? Whassamatter? Ain't got the stomach for it? I CALL YOU COWARD!" The mutant roared and pointed at Batman in particular. "Come on! And face ME like a man, I KILL YOU ALL! I EAT YOUR HEARTS!" He looked around at Sora, Riku, and Kairi, then back at Batman. "Come on man! You boring me!" Batman stepped forward, they all heard Alfred's voice in their earpieces. "Sir! You can't seriously be!? He's in his prime he'll kill you!" Batman said quietly before shutting off the distracting earpiece. "Its the only way I'll know..." 

 

He turned to the others, "Get that baby out of here."

Sora held the baby gingerly, not entirely sure how to deal with babies. He was carefully moving away from the frozen kidnapper when the wall exploded in. He turned to shield the child with his body from any shrapnel or projectiles. When he turned to see the Mutant Leader, Riku was already between him and the muscle bound gang member.

"Get the kid out of here." Riku hissed as the mutant bellowed his challenge.

Sora started to slowly make for an exit, trying not to draw attention to himself and his charge. With Batman reissuing the "get the baby out" order, Sora sped up.

"Come on." Sora called to Kairi.

"But-" she started to say, looking up from the dead Ike.

"Do what you can for the people still breathing." Riku called in, keeping his eyes on the Mutant and his blade up.

Kairi reluctantly abandoned her attempt to heal Ike, and followed Sora. Once out of sight of the Mutant, Kairi grabbed Sora's arm.

"Trade." She said, reaching for the baby. "You've more experience at bashing bad guys then me."

Sora didn't argue as he handed the baby over to Kairi and summoned his Keyblade. Acting as their guardian, Sora led Kairi out of the building and towards the police.

Riku stood his ground near Batman, not wanting to leave the vigilante alone against the Mutant.

Batman tackled the Mutant leader, in inadvertently sending them spiraling down from the window and down into the crowd of police officers and media. They landed on the roof of a cop car, just as Sora and Kairi made it outside. 

The mutant leader threw Batman off of him like it was nothing, Batman staggered a bit woozy from the fall, but he charged low and began delivering punches to the Mutant Leader's jaw, three in total, one after another.The huge half naked man staggered back just as Bruce drove his gloved fist into the Mutant's abdomen. Batman brought up his knee to smash the Mutant's chin, but he found himself grabbed around the waist and piledrove Bruce into the parking lot, smashing Bruce's nose in with his knee once he was down.The media cameras followed the fight, as police officers herded people back from the scene. The man who had been given the baby stood back, sheilding the boy's eyes.The mutant reached for bruce's fallen body, only to get a surprise attack of Batman's fist in his face, again and again until his visors were smashed into bits and his nose was caved in as well, blood dripping down his face in a waterfall.The Mutant leader staggered back, and began to laugh."Ha ha ha! That all you got? You getting tired old man?" 

 

By this time, word had spread about their leader facing the infamous Batman, an entire group of mutants watched from atop the apartment building, and other rooftops, some had even dared to watch from nearby alleyways and stand in the crowd at the parking lot.This was interesting to them, as Batman knew it would be. They were watching to see who was more worthy to be their leader...just as Batman planned."You're weak old man! You're slow! And I will show you who rules, Gotham city!" The Mutant leader bragged.Batman, even with his broken nose, managed to smirk and remove his cape, "Alright kid, show me!" A group of mutants watching on the rooftop of the apartment building began to talk amongst themselves. "Leader be berserk, he peg Batman you'll see." 

The unfazed mutant leader rushed Batman, swiping at him with his claws and aiming heavy blows at the older man. Batman swooped to the side and punched the giant albino's ribs, receiving a satisfying crack from several ribs cracking into pieces.He finished with a roundhouse kick to the musclebound man's face, a sharpened tooth flying out of the man's mouth.

Riku reluctantly stayed on the sideline as Batman and the mutant leader grappled. He didn't have a good shot for a spell or to go in slashing. Now he wished he knew some support spells like Haste or something.

"Batman!" He yelled out as the two combatants fell through the window.

 

"Um, excuse me?" Sora said, tentatively to a police officer. "We saved the kid those guys."

Kairi held the child up for inspection. Before the police could react, the Mutant Leader and Batman crashed into the top of a cop car. After a moment of shock, Kairi handed the baby off to an officer.

"Take care of him." She ordered, then grabbed Sora's arm to drag him away.

After a second to get his wits about him, Sora summoned his Keyblade again, and got ready to charge into the battle between the Mutant Leader and Batman. He was stopped when Riku landed in front of him.

"Leave the big guy to Bats." Riku said. "We're crowd control. If any...Mutants make a move to start something, stop them."

Sora and Kairi nodded, then split up to cover more ground. Riku stepped into the shadows and watched in case Batman needed a hand.
