Hey so um, I'm really hyped for Persona 5 but I've never played a Persona game before so i'm not really sure what to expect with P5.But for those who have played the Persona games well can you tell me exactly what I should expect from this game? I know that Persona 3 and Persona 4 are on the PSN store and i plan to buy them hopefully before P5 comes out so I can get a better understanding of how the games work. As well as get Persona 4: Arena Ultimax since that also comes with the first Persona 4: Arena's story as DLC. Don't really plan to get Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrith so soon since it looks like I need to know about P3 and P4 to understand what the game's really about. But yeah, anything that I should expect from P5 in terms of the gameplay? I know the story's not connected snce the Persona games seem to have different settings.

The settings are connected but very thinly. We actually don't know same universe as 3 and 4h but those two do share a universe. 1 and 2 is also in there just the events are mostly used as small nods rather then very relevant. Only thing you can expect out of gameplay is you have Personas and they are based on myths and legends and the like.

If you have ever played any other Shin Megami Tensie games it's gonna kinda be like that in a way with some different combat skills currently we don't know that much about Persona 5 but gameplay wise I'm gonna guess it's gonna be how Persona 3 and 4 where like where you will have a party of four and your main character can switch between Personas once a turn and you might be able to control your party members like how you can in Persona 4 it's kinda hard to explain but once you play Persona 3 and 4 you will know what to expect in Persona 5

Well, the gameplay will most likely be near identical to persona 4 and 3 with a possible added twist, so if you play those two you'll have a good idea what to do when persona 5 comes out. The stories are in the same universe, but the references to each other are pretty unimportant, unless they decide to change that up (one theory about p5's story was that it would directly relate to the ending of p3, which I won't say here so as not to spoil anything). Most importantly, don't freak out about 100%ing the game, as it's near impossible your first time playing, and even with a guide it isn't guaranteed to work. Just focus on having fun, and be ready to face a lot of dialogue with occasional fighting.

Be prepared for a lot of heavy, psychological themes.

They're brilliantly scripted visual novels punctuated by fun, but possibly unnecessary, dungeon crawling segments.

3 is a fun play regardless, but it doesn't handle nearly as well as 4; it's tough to go back from if you start with 4, but it's certainly doable. I found 4 a lot more meaningful because of the characters, but I'd say 3 has a more cohesive plot.

Either way, they're both really great games and worth your time, although they are intensive and require a big time commitment, not even counting multiple playthroughs.

If you ask me and many of my Persona loving friends they say that the social part and story are the best part of the Persona games.... for the game-play, just think of it as your typical dungeon crawler with some interesting things... added in, it does get kinda boring with both P3 and P4, but the story in both is more than enough to make-up for it. Persona 4 Golden tried to fix that by making the combat more fun with team attacks and otherstuff, but if you don't have a vita, don't worry about it.

Well I wouldn't say "unimportant". Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5 take place not only in the same universe, but on the same Earth too :P... the games have a timeline and events of P3 has already happened while you play P4 in the same earth, two years ago. I think you mean to say that you don't need to play the older games to understand it which is true. But what makes the series interesting is that it all shares this timeline with all the persona users. That being said, my personal recommendation is to not play Persona Arena or Persona Arena U... Just don't. You don't need to... if you are a fan of continuity... you'll hate these games. The story in Arena is ridiculously stupid in presentation and delivery, the story doesn't have an ending (uh... spoiler?)  it goes straight into Persona Arena U... like U takes place a day after Arena... and its not like its a surprise or anything Arena was leading up to U. Persona arena U is a better game as a whole and the delivery is better... at least for the first half...so don't bother with the Arena games, watch a summery or something on Youtube, yadadada..... but DO play Persona 3 and play the FES edition (or youtube the FES story line too really...) and play Persona 4, or Play Persona 4 Golden if you can... don't bother with Persona Q, it is just fan-service, nothing more.

Start with Persona 3 FES... then Persona 4 (Golden if you can, its on the Vita...) then wait for Persona 5. Don't worry too much about Arena, watch a summery of it if you are curious, (its a waste of time). Q is fan-service. *A nice summery of my above post*.
