Wrestling Isn't Wrestling (or, The History of Triple H)

Posted

I feel like this video accurately sums up why I love wrestling. Yes, it's scripted: much like every other show on TV that people enjoy, it's goal is to tell a good story and develop interesting characters that make you want to tune in week in and week out. It can be silly and over the top, and it can have great drama and intense rivalries. At its core, the goal of wrestling is to conjure an emotional response from its audience, which it does both through the talking segments, and the matches that they have. Just looking at this video and realizing how the overall character arc of Triple H over nearly twenty years makes me appreciate the art of wrestling all the more.

Used to watch WWE! Played a lot of the video games as well. I kinda got bored of it all though. Repetetive storylines and such. Every now and then though ill watch an episode to see what has become of it.

For all of those reasons. I like it. I also love it because of Paige. Hot damn!

He totally buried the New Age Outlaws and X-Pac. lol

In all seriousness, this was a great video and it made me appreciate wrestling even more that I do now. :) I'm surprised he talked about this stuff through a sort of casual fans perspective instead of going more in depth and breaking kayfabe. Though, maybe that was the point as he did in a more literary/parody fashion, which I appreciate. It would have been better if he didn't skip around certain parts like the angle with the McMahons and what happened in-between Evolution and the rivalry with Cena, and some other details here and there, but again, there was a point to it. Also, I loved how he used mostly all girls to portray the wrestlers and how he got a bunch of cameos from celebrities like Seth Green, Macaulay Culkin, Josh Peck, etc. Plus I noticed that Joey Ryan, John Hennigan, Bad Influence and other actual wrestlers make cameos, which was another good touch. Especially that Goldberg clip at the end. lol
