Hello guys, In this topic, I need your opinion about the case that I and my friend had several days ago. Don't worry, this problem is nothing to do with any discussions in KH13. It's on my group chat which outside KH 13 Forum.

I won't say what's the topic that we were discussing, I'll say the main problem. We were in discussion, suddenly someone who was our friend involved in the discussion and said what's in his/her mind. At first, the discussion was fine, then, until the discussion was getting longer, he/she said something that we thought could make confrontation and made the discussion was no longer fun, in the other words, we thought that the discussion could make others angry and could trigger something bad. we decided to keep silent and not replying his/her comment, we didn't want to trigger any bad things in our discussion, for example fighting in discussion.

I know sometimes we notice problem like this in our Social Network. People debating, there is / are people who keep silent when the discussion is getting hotter. sometimes people who involve in the discussion think that the silence one is the cowardice and they think that the silence is lost at the debate.

The thing that I wanna ask you : if in the serious discussion, you meet people who keep silent after they give their thoughts in the serious debate, do you think they are coward or something else?

I'm sorry if the language is not very good and hard to understand...

If you know that continuing the discussion will lead to a fight or unpleasant situation, then silence is absolutely reasonable and not cowardly. You can however just tell the other participants why you're being silent (or at least hint at it in some way). That way, people won't think you've simply run out of things to say.

Silence can mean many things not just cowardice - it can also mean disinterest on the topic, or generally they just are at a loss for words and don't know how or what to say.

I say this because I am the one who usually goes quiet during convos on social media but less so on KH13.

And Psychic ketchup is correct too; sometime this 'silence' is the one that might trigger the storm before a storm. What you can try is privately contacting the said individual; be sensitive about it and maybe ask how they felt and why they said what they did; also make sure not to say anything that might jeopardise your friendship

I think that maybe they weren't much interested in the subject of the discussion in the first place. They gave their personal thoughts and that's it, end of the discussion. Or perhaps, they don't wanna continue in debating because they don't wanna change their mind, ignoring any new information you give them on the subject of the discussion. But mostly, this kind of silence is due to lack of interest in the subject.

Keeping silent could mean anything . All you have to do is tell the others the reason why you are being silent (which ,in your case , is because what you're about to say might insult somebody ) .

I see. Yeah, maybe I should tell the participant the reason why I keep silent this time. anyway, thank you for the opinion guys. I appreciate it.
