For a Greater Good (the RP)

Posted

This RP is based off of several elements of "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins.

The future is not what it seems. The United States has been separated into "districts". There are 13 districts, each of them stricken with extreme poverty. Living off of the land is strictly prohibited, so many starve. In order to allow some people to live, the Capitol (the government) has created "The Hunger Games". The winner of these games will receive extravagant amounts of money, a new house, and plenty of food. Two "Tributes" from each district are chosen to participate in these games. The games may seem like they are fun, but they are anything but. Winning the game will make some go through extreme pain and tons of mental stress. Why is this? To win the Hunger Games, you must kill every other tribute in a specialized arena the government has created, including the Tribute from your district. The arena face can vary from a jungle to a desert. The age range for the Tributes vary from 12-18, any gender. Many people find these games cruel, but some families are so desperate, they support them. The Capitol enjoys these games for entertainment, but they believe that the Hunger Games are for a greater good.

Rules

1. Nobody in this RP has super powers, you are normal human beings.

2. You cannot god-mod in this RP.

3. We will not start off in the arena.

4. Your posts must be descriptive and without extreme grammatical errors. Posts with one full paragraph, at least 5 sentences.

5. Every District has one male and one female Tribute. If there is already somebody of your gender in a District, please choose another one.

6. Do not kill other RPers without permission

7. Keep cussing to a PG-13 level.

8. Enjoy.

Name: Jacob Lefevre

Age: 16

Gender: Male

District: 8

Appearance (you get new clothes in the Arena): Jacob has slightly tanned skin, dark brown hair that hangs over his head, a mustache, and a few beard hairs. He wears a white T-Shirt, torn black Docker shorts, and a pair of old Reeboks. Mostly, his facial features are hidden by his hair, but when he pulls his hair back, you can see his depressed look.

H.G. weapon: He has an assortment of throwing daggers, which have been dipped in one of the most deadliest toxins in the world. He also has a blowdart gun, two battle daggers, and a limited supply of mines.

Short bio: Jacob and his family moved from Canada to the U.S. 10 years before the creation of the Hunger Games. They had lived a pretty good life in California before it got turned into District 8. After this, their lives made a turn for the worst. They lost most of their money, and they couldn't afford a lot of food. 3 years ago, when Jacob's brother Jackson was picked as a Tribute, they had mixed emotions of happiness and depression. They prayed everyday while he was in the arena, but unfortunately, he was killed when there were only 3 people left. This left Jacob in a state of depression and anger. He dropped out of the Capitol created school system, and began to just walk around his district, with nothing to do.

Another day has gone by. Another day without a decent meal. All Jacob had today was a bowl of dry oatmeal. As the Twilight begins to fall, he begins to head back home. He had been walking around District 8 all day today. He witnessed a few whippings in the Capitol plaza around 3 p.m. The man that was whipped had been caught hunting in the woods. As Jacob recollects on his day during his walk home, he notices Capitol vehicles fly by him. What are they doing here? Unless...it's time. Jacob starts to run the opposite way from his house. The cold wind blows against his face and hair as he sprints towards the Capitol square. When he gets there, he notices the whole District population standing in the square. There was a large stage, and Capitol officials were standing on it, looking down at the people. A man in a white suit was standing at a microphone. "Today is the biggest day of the year. The day we pick the Tributes for the Hunger Games."

Brian heard the cannons and shuddered in greif. He was sorry for the children, but their deaths were for the protection of the country.Brian continued to shout the corruption and conspiracy readings off the computer - Brian was making his message clear. All of a sudden,Brian quickly jumped off a tree.A huge cannonball almost hit him down.Another one flew to Brian, but Brian climbed the tree again.Brian then looked closely, and saw a cannon being shot.Brian quickly threw a knife into the cannon, and the cannon exploded.Brian laughed and taunted the Capitol, then jumped off the tree.

"SHH!" Sophia practically screamed herself. "There are cannons EVERYWHERE!" A cannonball hurtled towards her, and she barely managed to get out of its range. "Don't make the Gamemakers angry! Not here, not now! They'll just kill you and take back their--" She cut off abruptly. She couldn't let them know about the data stick, or they'd kill them for sure. Surely the Capitol could have them dead by now, but were choosing this teasing way, to toy with them. Before their actually killing, of course. She looked around--still no sign of her staff or the backpack she'd gotten from the Cornucopia. Another cannonball landed beside her. She screamed at Brian. "RUN!"

Brian hopped down the tree and ran in a random direction. He continued to run and dodge the cannonballs. He stopped for a moment to catch his breath, only to almost get hit by a Cannonball.Brian quickly got back to running. He repeatedly looked back to see cannonballs and if Sophia was running behind him.

Sophia looked over her shoulder, and saw a flaming cannonball streak towards her. She screamed to Brian. "They're on fire now!" She saw her backpack hidden under some bushes, where it must've rolled. She skidded to a stop, and spun on her heel, and flaming cannonball barely missing her. "The backpack!" She yelled, diving to dodge another cannonball. She swung one strap onto her elbow, and ducked under a cannonball. Sophia realized the woods were starting to burn. She grabbed a branch and swung over the fire. "W-Wait up!"

Brian quickly stopped at a fresh water pond.Brian was pleased, and started drinking the pond's water.Brian quickly took out a flask and filled it up with fresh water.Brian, panting, looked back and saw that Sophia was running.Brian stood up,and was waiting for her.He then took out the flask and offered it to her."You need a drink?,"Brian asked."You look thirsty."

Sophia rolled her eyes. "No, running for my life from Capitol Gamemakers decided on killing me in an arena in the middle of nowhere slowly with flaming cannonballs didn't tire me out at ALL." As her best friend Mika would've said, "This is a MAJOR bummer." She sighed and collapsed, taking the flask, but instantly drawing back. "Are you sure this is safe? It looks much too easy." She suspiciously inspected the water in the pond. Eventually deciding when her boots didn't burn like being dipped in acid, she took them off, and dangled by the side of the water. "Well, at least the cannonballs stopped." She yawned. "I'm tired. Do you want first or second watch?"

Brian rolled his eyes at her sarcastic comment."I'll take first watch",Brian said.Brian looked around, thinking more cannonballs would come.To his relief,no more came.Brian sighed in relief and started breaking off branches. After he lined them all in a cone-shape,He took a branch and ran back.He looked around for a flaming cannonball, and found one. After he found it,he lit the branch on fire and quickly ran back.He then lit the the pile on fire, and threw the branch in with it.

Sophia nodded her approval. "Keep the smoke low. After all of that chaos, there are sure to be Tributes heading in our direction. They'll hunt at night, when people are unprepared to fight." She yawned, and laid back against a tree. "Wake me up when you think it's about two or so. Might as well make it fair, right." Before closing her eyes, she clutched her locket. Hearing the anthem play, she looked to the sky. The faces of the dead Tributes flashed. She sighed when they were finally over--she really couldn't force herself to look. She leaned back against the tree, and fell asleep. But being asleep was as awful as being awake. Because all she had were nightmares--nightmares of what she knew was to come. Ultimately, her death.

Brian tied 3 giant leafs 10 feet above the fire, which kept the smoke low.Brian then sat in front of the fire.Brian was then soon lost in thoughts - of home,of his death, and of the tributes he killed.Brian rubbed his forehead in frustration. He then left the campsite. In a cave,he found a dead Tribute with a bag full of food, water, and supplies.Brian quickly took the bag and ran back to the camp.He took out an apple, and put the bag next to him.

~Sophia's Dream~

Sophia stared at her and the final Tribute--one she didn't recognize, but she must've subconciously conjured. She staggered back a step, holding her staff again. The other Tribute was bleeding on the upper part of his arm, glaring at her, and holding a sword. "I'm going to go home. I'm going to be famous. I'm going to be rich and never starve again. You're going to die!" She felt pain all too real course through her as the boy attacked her. "Ahh!" She doubled over, holding her stomach. She saw her family and friends at home, horrified and crying harshly. She screamed. "No! No, stop, please! I never-I never wanted to be a part of this!" She saw the Gamemakers faces surrounding her, laughing about what a smash-hit their games were. "NO! GET AWAY FROM ME!"

-sigh- Alright

Jacob had spent the night in a tree, away from any animals or Tributes. He had made a shelter out of leaves and twigs, and built it upon the branches of the oak trees. Since the branches were so close, they connected almost like a floor, so it was easy to lay down on them. Jacob woke up the next morning, and climbed down to the forest floor. He takes his knife and slashes the trees in the surrounding areas so he could find his shelter. Today was the day he would find Elizabeth. But first, breakfast. Jacob had gathered a few nuts and berries, but he wasn't sure if the berries were poisonous or not, so he kept them in a bag in his back pocket for later inspection. He decided he would have meat for breakfast. He blends in with the bushes, waiting for an animal to cross his path. A wild chicken waltzes its way across the bush he was sitting in. Bingo. Jacob pulls out one of his non-poisonous knives, and tosses it straight at the chickens neck, decapitating it perfectly. Jacob runs out of the bush and picks up his kill, and grabs some wood to start a fire. A fire would be risky, since it would draw other Tributes, but Jacob was ravenous. He cleaned and de-feathered the chicken, and then roasted it. After he finishes eating, he puts out the fire, and kicks the ashes the opposite direction of where he was heading. He also lays a false trail of chicken bones down in case anybody tries to track his movements.

Brian looked around and looked at a branch. He then took out a knife and retreived the branch. After it was retreived,he cut off all extra little twigs and leaves off,and threw them into the fire. After it was picked off,he started to carve it into a wooden javelin. After 30 minutes of cutting off the twig stumps, smoothing it into a pole form, and carving it into a sharp top,Brian then put the knife away.Brian heard something nearby. He armed his javelin, and looked straight into the bushes, waiting for an attack.

"Ahh!" Sophia sat up screaming. She breathed a sigh of relief, realizing it was just a dream. She shuddered when she remembered it was more than just a dream--it was an all to real reality. She sighed, and glanced at the sky. Judging by the projected moon's position, it was about two forty-five in the morning. She rubbed her eyes tiredly, and looked over to see Brian getting ready as if someone were about to attack. Instantly, Sophia bounced up--at least she didn't need a weapon. But depending on what their attacker had... Someone charged from the bushes. "YAHHH!!"
