I'm confused as to which characters are actually alive in the present time and which are dead but have been brought in by time travel. Did everyone return to their own time at the end of DDD (including what seems to be Xigbar, Saix, young and Master Xehanort) or did they just 'retreat' to somewhere where they can prepare themselves?

 

Will it be a case where you re-fight characters like Ansem and Xemnas, but once you do, instead of 'dying', their fate is that they have to return to their own time where they're actually defeated, or are these characters all co-existing somehow? I thought they had all time-traveled, but now I'm not sure what's real and what's not anymore...

We don't know exactly, but I deducted from Xehanort explanation that every Nort of True Org XIII in 3D was time-travelling out of their own time. So, Master Xehanort was Xehanort before fighting TVA in the Keyblade Graveyard, Ansem SoD was before fighting Sora at End of the World, etc.

 

Maybe instead of time-travelling, they will use the Book of Prophecies in KH3 to appear? The thing is that 3D delivered little detail into this kind of questions

 

I hope we get some kind of cutscene in 2.8 giving us more detail, like what we got in Re: Coded HD

I honestly think they all went back into their own time before they were defeated.

I don't even know yet. This hasn't been introduced to me yet since I have yet to play DDD, and I am going to become worried if this becomes a mindfiretruck.

 

I assume that they were brought forward into time, though your retreating idea would be more simple, but we saw Xemnas literally die so the latter can't be true. They must've been brought forward into time.
