"Next Xenoblade Would Focus More On Story" Says Tetsuya Takahashi

Posted

Xenoblade Chronicles X just launched in the west today, but the game's director Tetsuya Takahashi is already talking about his plans for a possible third entry in the RPG series.

Speaking with Gamereactor, Takahashi touched upon another Xenoblade game when asked about the future of the franchise, saying the next entry would be more story-driven. "While Xenoblade Chronicles was a true story-driven JRPG, we took a rather different approach with Xenoblade Chronicles X. You could say it doesn't really feel like a typical JRPG: what really sets it apart from other JRPGs is that the game world — the planet Mira — is really vast.

"I've heard that some Japanese users who played Xenoblade Chronicles X said they enjoyed a more story-driven type of game. So if we have the opportunity to make another game in the series, I'd like to make another typical JRPG-style game like Xenoblade Chronicles again."

this is interesting even though I not interested in the Xenoblade Chronicles series yet because I like the story in video games. I may end up playing the wii one or the wii u soon eventually :)

As long as this doesn't mess things up for those of us who are more focused on the gameplay aspect, this won't be a big deal for me. The third Xenoblade game should definitely still have a massive world, though. It'd be a really weird step back if they removed the exploration from X.

Yeah I agree with you. But if they are going to focus more on story in the next Xenoblade game than I hope they make it as amazing as the first Xenoblade Chronicles. That game has an AMAZING storyline to the point where it's become one of my favorite games of all time.

You should definitely pick up Xenoblade Chrnicles. it's an excellent game if you're more into the story.

I think that if the third game had gameplay as expansive and in-depth as X, and a story as deep and interesting as the original Xenoblade's, it could easily top both entries. Of course, I'm not at the point in X where the story becomes more important, so the story in X could easily be on the same level as the original's for me. I guess I'll find that out soon (I know a lot of people have complained about X's story, but I'd prefer to form my own opinion about it).

Haha yeah IU;ve been seeing reviews of Xenoblade Chronicles X and people have complained about the story. But, like you, I won;t judge the story until I;ve completed the game for myself. And I am in no rush to finish the game either.
