  1. Cathos~~~~~ Cathos looked up past the rubble and noticed a man floating close to the shattered tower. One of the Kamyn, unless he missed his guess completely. Speaking into the Kamyn's mind, he said "You have evaded the being for too long!" A giant hand shaped of the grey stuff appeared under the Kamyn and tried to grab him, even as Cathos formed and hurled a mental spear in an attempt to break into his opponent's mind. The tentacles cleared two more sections of rubble. Ferro~~~~~ Ferro led the group through the maze, until he reached a crossroads. He took out Vell and fired a blazing bolt down each path. He saw. . .
  2. Cathos~~~~~ A strange man suddenly materialized, standing on some sort of grey, squishy, slimy solid that floated in the air, with a purple swirling where the edges of the platform were. Two spots of that purple energy appeared and two huge tentacles made of the same grey substance as the platform came out of the energy, slicing two large swathes out of the falling rubble. They reared back to do it again. Cathos had arrived just in time. He had seen this avalanche of stone and earth during the projection of the future he had seen while plumbing the being's knowledge. He formed a fist of mental force in his mind and used it to punch another hole in the rubble as the tentacles removed two more slices.
  3. I'm undecided on when to insert Cathos into the Iron group. I am considering having him stop the falling rubble, but it would make more sense to have him approach them between dangers.
  4. Ferro swiftly lengthened his step to get in front of Amber. The man with the shield should always be in the front. As he moved, the platform Sandrew was on floated through the air to remain a couple yards behind Ferro. "Ugh, I hate the dark!" exclaimed Birgitte. "C'mon, Birgitte! Just pretend we're spelunkers." Chips said cheerfully. Ferro didn't pay much attention to them; he was focused on scanning the darkness beyond the light of the orb.
  5. "Leave it to me." Ferro said. Some plates detached from Chips and floated over to Sandrew, forming a platform for him to sit on. "Cornelius, if you could make some light to float ahead of us, that would be great. I don't want to stumble upon anything that I didn't see until I was on top of it." Ferro started walking into the labyrinth, holding Chips and Birgitte at the ready for any danger.
  6. The being has no ability to affect the physical world; anything that is done is done by Cathos. Also, can someone give me a synopsis of the Iron team's actions and location? I'm planning for Cathos to join them.
  7. Awesome! I have a great concept.Name: CathosMagic Ability: Cathos is connected to a being of infinite size and intelligence, which exists in an extra dimensional space that draws close to this dimension. The connection is a physical connection, so Cathos's mind is internally fused with the being through a rift. His connection causes him to age very slowly, as vitality from the being refreshes him. The connection has heightened his intelligence and awareness, and he can commune with the being's knowledge if given time (typically one hour to a day). Cathos can also draw the actual physical substance of the being through rifts, and has the ability to shape it to a limited degree. He can also open rifts to teleport himself, as well as use other abilities related to the mind, like telepathy.Information on the being: As I said, this being is of infinite size and intelligence, and exists in its own dimension. The being does NOT, however, have infinite intelligence. It knows everything a living creature has observed, from the present and into the past. Due to its infinite intelligence, it does have the ability to predict the future with a high degree of accuracy, although it must constantly modify its predictions as time continues. There are some exceptions to its knowledge: very powerful beings warp the being's ability to gather knowledge from their minds. This means the being does not know anything the Kamyn are thinking. If another living creature observes the Kamyn, it will know that, but not what the Kamyn themselves know.Backstory: Cathos used to be a thinker in a prestigious group of scholars. He was known by a different name, and was renowned for his deep, introverted style of thought. One day, however, he thought so deeply, retreated so far into his own mind, that he broke into that being. The experience drew his mind out of his body, and he died. He was buried in the scholars' cemetery. He lives now, because his mind returned to his body. He has lived far away from the scholars, afraid one would recognize him if he went anywhere near them. None of those scholars are alive anymore; Cathos has lived for more than a century. It was during one of his recent dives into the being's knowledge that he learned of the expedition. He decided to come, to learn why the Kamyn are able to avoid the being's intellect.Appearance: Cathos appears to be a middle aged man, with grey hair and only a few wrinkles. He has eyes like deep pools. He is a little frail-looking, but by no means is he weak of body.Role: Climber
  8. Is it possible to add a second character now that the RP has started?
  9. Ferro tensed as the Kamyn spoke again, then relaxed as he vanished. The floating metal plates slid back onto Chips. "That bastard is going to get what's coming to him one day." he said to himself. "A maze? I love mazes!" Chips squealed. Ferro turned to Cornelius. "If your bats can lead us through, Bastion, then fantastic! I'll take the vanguard when we set out. Just tell me where to turn." Next he turned to Sandrew. "That was very courageous of you back there. Don't mistake fear with cowardice. Bravery does not necessarily mean foolhardiness."
  10. I'm waiting for Schemer. Ferro can't do much right now, and I don't want to waste a post basically saying Ferro is still there.
  11. All the more reason for Ferro to do so
  12. Ferro is a vulgar guy. He doesn't spend much time around people, so what do you expect? And Vell is just the way he is. Gah, I can't post a vulgar reply to Dante!
  13. The slither of metal on metal could be heard as plates of white detached from Chips, coming to float protectively around Ferro. Birgitte's blades became even hotter. Ferro eyed the robed figure. "Who is this son-of-a-b*tch?" he said, giving a wry smile. In normal circumstances, Birgitte would have scolded him for his language, but this was not normal circumstances. "He looks like a woman in that robe!" Vell remarked, cackling.
  14. "What's all this talk of dying, child? You sound like Vell on a rainy day." Birgitte scolded. "Now I don't want to hear another word like it from your mouth, young man, you hear?" Ferro waked over to Sandrew. Crouching so he would be at eye level, Ferro looked him in the eyes. "That smoke cloud isn't all you can do, is it? You are stronger than you imagine yourself to be. You just need to find your courage." Ferro got a sad smile on his face. "So many years ago, I was like you. I couldn't do anything without my mother with me. And then she wasn't there anymore, and I had to find my own way. You will find your way, too." Ferro rumpled Sandrew's hair as he stood up.
  15. Ferro stopped the group before the mouth of the cave, eyes narrow as he peered at the lights. "They're so pretty!" Chips exclaimed. Ferro took out Vell and fired a shot into the cave. The bolt of white flame lit up the area, but didn't reveal much of anything. As the darkness resumed, the floating lights came back into view. "I guess we have no choice but to press on." Ferro switched Vell for Birgitte and started leading the group into the cave. The light of the hot blades did little to dispell the darkness. . .
  16. Actually, yes. My all-time favorite game, FTL, is on iPad now, which is great.
  17. Silly console gamers. Although I don't play enough to be talking here. . .
  18. Ferro dropped his proffered hand back to his side. "I suppose I should introduce you to my friends. Chips, it seems, has already done so. Vell is my crossbow. And the pretty lady on my back is Birgitte, my blade staff." "You own no part of me! I refuse to be reduced to a mere possession!" Birgitte spat out indignantly. "Well, seeing as you can't move by yourself, I don't know if I would consider you anything else." Vell cut in, with a wicked cackle for could measure. Birgitte huffed and fell silent. Ferro just rolled his eyes, as if this happened at least once a day. "Well, I guess we should get going." he said. He turned and began leading the group towards the cave mouth. Chips yelled, "Adventure!"
  19. (Hooray!) Ferro turned roughly to face Drale. He studied the man with suspicion in his eyes. "I. . . seem to remember a mountain like that. So long ago. . ." Ferro's eyes were no longer looking at Drale; they were staring through him, seemingly. His eyes grew moist before he turned away. Mother. . . Ferro blinked the tears out of his eyes. "All right. You've dredged up memories I thought I had buried long ago. I'll go with you, if only to be safer during my expedition to the peak." He turned and offered his hand to Drale. "Yaaay! New people! My name is Chips and I like adventuring!" Ferro winced at the shield's outburst, then smiled.
  20. (Can't post. . . Done three. . .)
  21. "His name is Ferro, and he doesn't need your help. We're leaving." said Vell, his words broadcasted into everyone's minds. "Aw, Vell, don't be such a downer! I'm sure Ferro can be civil enough around other humans." Birgitte said, the last bit said pointedly. A frown settled on Ferro's face as it became redder. He spluttered for a bit, muttering incoherently except for a few bits: here and there were snatches of "damn sentient objects" and "never listen to me". At one point, Chips gasped, saying "That's not nice!" It took a a few seconds for Ferro to calm down. "Ahh. . . Don't listen to Vell, he's just a pessimistic bastard of a crossbow. I go by the name of Ferro." He ran his eyes over the group. "Somebody tell your little boy here to watch where he's throwing those things. Now I'm going to climb to the peak of that mountain and see the views." And with that, Ferro started up the path, putting Chips and Vell onto his back again. Birgitte could just be heard scolding "You couldn't have been more rude, could you!" before they were out of earshot. (Remember, Ferro doesn't know about the significance of this mountain. You should probably stop him.)
  22. (What happened was: everyone was outside on the path leading to the cave. We weren't even near it, as far as I am aware. Ferro was hiding in some trees. Sandrew noticed and threw a smoke dagger at Ferro, not at the cave. Ferro stormed out of the thicket yelling at Sandrew. Nowhere was there any interaction with the cave.)
