Genie And The Mention Of The Keyhole!

Posted

Hey there everyone, how's it going!? So then, there's something that's always interested me regarding Genie in Kingdom Hearts, more specifically the first one! You see, when there's mention of the Keyhole, Genie mentions that he's heard something about that somewhere before.  When Donald asks where, Genie replies with: "Now where was it? It's only been 200 years?"  Here's the video so you can see for yourselves! Skip to 24:00 till 24:22!

Now, this gets me thinking that perhaps Genie, or at least, his form in the Book Of Prophecies, was aware of the existence of Keyholes, by extension, the Keyblade. I find it interesting that Genie mentions what he mentions! Did he appear in X? Because if so, that'd explain his wondering about the Keyhole! Yes, I know that X wasn't even conceived in Nomura's mind by the time the first Kingdom Hearts came out, but I'm just being curious in terms of the lore we know of as of right now!  Now, suppose that Genie is present during the events of X, then that means he probably had knowledge of the Keyblade Masters at the time, or at least saw one or two of them around, ya know?

What can you all tell me about this? :)

Of course he knows, he's a powerful magical entity. Knowledge of Keyblades and Keyholes are in no way and have seemingly never been exclusive to Keyblade weilders, Triton, the Cheshire Cat, Genie, all of them knew about them. There's likely at least one person in every world who knows about the Keyholes and weilders.

And no, he was not in x, and even if he was he would have just been an illusion like everyone else an thus not have any memories of x

Genie could be old enough to know about the Keyblade War ,the Keyholes and the Bool of Prophecies. He is a Genie after all xD .Even if he was not present during the KH x events, he could have heard something or he would just know by instinct that Keyholes exist and that a Keyblade War happened sometime in the past.

Yeah, the 200 years talk is way too specific. Gets me thinking. Like others have said, Keyblade wielders are not the only people who know about Keyblades and Keyholes, and being that he's a genie might mean he's just entitled to the knowledge of Keyholes/Keyblade/Key Stuff.

But that 200 years....guys, what would 200 years be? There has to be something to that. I don't think it is sarcasm, it is too specific to be so. I know Nomura probably wasn't thinking about all this back in KH1, but it seems to be that many of the things he's mentioned in passing seem to mean more as the story goes on. 200 years. Something to look into is all I'm saying.

Yeah, I find it really interesting how there's certain people in the different worlds that have knowledge of the Keyblade Wielders, even though that such knowledge has to be kept secret in order to protect world order! It makes me wonder how these individuals found out about the Keyblade in the first place! :O

Oh, I see, so he wasn't in X, eh? Still, though, that whole bit about Genie and the mention of the keyhole is definitely interesting! :3

Yeah, you could be right! Since Genie has been around for longer than anyone can even begin to guess, it makes sense that he knows of these things! It would be awesome if we could get more insight as to how he knows about these things!

Indeed, I agree! This is why I thought about X's story, and since that is quite a few hundred years away from the current events of the Xehanort Saga, it would make sense for him to learn of the Keyblade and Keyholes there! But setting X aside, those 200 years ago he mentions has to have some significance! We might probably never know!

Thinking about it, we migh have to just write off that line, remeber x was only 100 years before KH, and back then there was only 1 world, so more than likely there was only 1 keyhole, if any, meaning Agrabah would not have had it's own keyhole, unless that's where the the single world's keyhole was located, but I find Keyblade Graveyard or Daybreak town to be the more likely location.

Hmm, or maybe this is just another retcon! I dunno, for all we know, we might never get this referenced again! :O

Wait wait wait wait wait. X was explicitly stated to be 100 years before KH1? I find that to be highly implausible. The average human life expectancy (at least in the real world) is approximately 70 to 80 years so there's bound to be at least one person who had actual first hand or at least second hand knowledge of those events, otherwise everything about the Keyblade War wouldn't be such a mystery. Now if it were 1000 or 5000 years then I can see knowledge of the War being lost to the sands of time.

Well, technically the interview said "more than 100 years" but when something is worded like that it usually means close to that time frame.

This conversation makes me wonder if the Gods of Olympus know about the keyblade war? They would be more than old enough.

Or other characters who would be old enough.

Ooh, that's right! Perhaps we might even get something regarding that in Kingdom Hearts III, since we'll be heading to Mount Olympus! When Sora and friends take out the threat that's trying to destroy Mt. Olympus, Zeus and the other gods could recount their experiences with past Keyblade Wielders, or something like that! That'd be so cool! :O
