Can Japanese BbS Version Play Mirage Arena With English BbS Version?

I have both the Japanese and English Version's of BBS. Me and my friend tried to do Mirage Arena together. It didn't work. Did we do something wrong and it can work? Or did they design it so its a region locked game?

    I don't have the Japanese version sadly. So I don't know. Maybe it could be wifi connection problems?

    I don't think it was wifi problems. We were right next to each other, and both on channel 6. But thanks for the suggestion!
