Why are Maleficent and Pete after the black box?

Posted

Spoilers for Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover, Re:coded, and Dream Drop Distance:

I thought that Master Xehanort (and maybe Xigbar in an attempt to betray him) was going to be the one who was after the black box, but I guess I was wrong (unless he still is and it just hasn't been revealed to us yet).  However, now that we know that Maleficent and Pete are after the black box, I think that we have enough to start theorizing on what's inside it.

First, we must ask the question: "Do we have any idea what Maleficent and Pete's goals are?"  Yes, we do know what their goals are.  In the Re:coded movie in Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX, Maleficent tells Pete that the datascape reminded her of the Book of Prophecies.  And after telling him what the Book of Prophecies can do, she tells him, "Don't you think it might just be worth our while to search for a connection.  Perhaps there's a link between that so-called journal of theirs and the Book of Prophecies."  She then says, "First, we must take possession of this "data" of theirs."  From this, it is made clear that Maleficent and Pete's goals have shifted to the Book of Prophecies.  We know that from this time until Dream Drop Distance, they were trying to get their hands on the World Data, as Maleficent said they would try to do.  However, since they are now looking for the black box, does that mean that they gave up on getting their hands on the World Data, or did they find another connection to the Book of Prophecies that they think is easier to obtain?

Since Maleficent and Pete are after the power of the Book of Prophecies, maybe the black box has a connection to it somehow.  If I were to take a guess, I think that Maleficent and Pete are looking for the black box because they think it has either a connection to the Book of Prophecies or the Book of Prophecies itself is inside it (maybe the black box is included in the original legend of the Keyblade War, but that part of the legend was lost over time to most people).  However, I think that the black box contains something much different than what they are expecting.  Why would Luxu seem so shocked when he heard what was in it if it was something as innocent as a copy of the Book of Prophecies?  I am starting to think that the Master of Masters just might have put his heart in there.

Those are just my thoughts.  What do you think?

I agree, I think their looking for the box because it has a connection with the Book of Prophecies. I also believe Maleficent learned about this connection when she managed to reach the "Unchained" dimension. How she did that? I wouldn't know. Or perhaps it's the other way around... the box is what gave her access to the Unchained dimension? I'm confused. Lol

In the last few days I started wondering about Luxu's box. I believe that the box contains darkness itself and the Master of Masters gave Luxu the job of freeing it. And here are some points:

1st: in the universe of X, darkness doesn't exist in a "material" way. All the Heartless we fight are created by the power of each apprentice's book.

2nd: there is a scene (I can't find it now) that shows Luxu with the box during the Keyblade War (the scene is almost identical to Mickey appearing in the end of BbS).

So I believe that during the Keyblade War, Luxu opened the box and unleashed the darkness inside Kingdom Hearts and causing tha worlds to be separated and making it the way we know now.

Maybe the Master's plan is to keep balance betwenn light and dark, since only light existed prior to the War.

Or maybe I'm just wrong. You know...Nomura logic...
