Glad to see you enjoyed it! Who did you get in chapter 14 when going outside the house at night with Cloud?

Personally, I'm very even on it. To me, it depends on what future games will do. Right now I'm not especially hopeful or worried, just cautious

so the issue is just

zack

I think we can stop with the spoiler tags, I think pretty much everyone who wanted to play it here has finished it

the ghosts or the

whispers?

I get lost on that lol

But the true impact behind what they're going to do is lost and unknown to new players

It's lost and unknown to old ones too

Which is why the ending caused such controversy

Well the old players know the original events

Whereas I sure as hell don't

So old players know what the whispers are trying to preserve

If this was a 1:1 remake, it would still be the same situation. Old players know what the story is.

arguably they don't know anymore so it's an even playing field

Then I am confused about your issue

But, this should've instead been a game or series of games that did not need to depend on literally showing you shots and screens of other ff7 properties. And if they had to, they could've explained those scenes in greater detail

Callbacks and references are fine, but this doesn't really feel like a remake to me when the events of the original have consequences on the actual plot

Okay so your issue is
this is more like ff7-2 rather than ff7r

Because the whispers are trying to keep things along the timeline of the original game?

but you didn't want a 1:1 of ff7

There aren't any consequences to it tho. All the stuff they have seen are just stuff from the future. All the flashes they saw were the bad stuff that happened. The meteor hitting earth, Midgar being abandoned after 500 (?) years, Aertih dying and so on. The story is going for them wanting to change that outcome, but that's also where it depends on what they are doing in the next games. Will they change stuff? If they do, then I agree with what you are saying. Are they keeping the same story beats but changing things here and there to fit what they have done so far? If this is the direction they are going, then your issue won't be a problem because all the stuff the original did will be lived through in this version too.

So I regret playing it since in order to really get everything as best as I could, such as what events the whispers are trying to protect, I'd need to have played the original

or

you can reside within this universe

in which the original didn't happen
