Does kinda seem like a lot of games are either

> Ubisoft open world

> Soulslike

> cutsey platformer with a tragic dark plot

Or

> cutsey farm Sim

these days lol

Bruh the ubisoft open worlds UGH

Copy and paste ass games

Climb tower X to reveal map

Has annoying fetch quests

Over the shoulder camera

Resources

Skill points firetruckING skill points

I dont mind them if the world's are filled out with interesting lore and fun gameplay stuff, but, sometimes they're just not fun after a while.

Like I like the Horizon games for example but, I still never beat the second one lol

Cause when it first came out, literally Elden Ring came out a week later, then I inconsistently come back to it.

Or I would.

If it wasn't 100+ firetruckin gigabytes

I mean yeah sure

But copy paste side quests get annoying and boring REAL fast

Western devs need to chill the firetruck out with the file sizes tbh cuz tell me why CoD a game with less content than lets say cyberpunk is larger

I think most of it has to do with textures and shit but still

Duck man

We need you

I think the answer is usually just poor optimization

But for the life of us we can't figure out why lol- maybe it's the game engines?

you're right! it's abysmaI optimziation and not wanting to compress textures

despite us having good compression and decompression tech these days, most games just don't use it much...

whiIe CoD generaIIy has genuine HD textures, so we can argue they are optimizing fiIe size
can't say the same for 7R or 7R-2

texture quaIity in 7R is ass and in 7R-2 it's consistent PS3

but.
there's aIso modeIs to consider
high poIy modeIs do take up space, and most games need LODs for each modeI so fiIe sizes can baIIoon up

it's worth considering that uncompressed textures usuaIIy means faster Ioad times, considerabIy so since the system doesn't have to uncompress anything

but frankIy that is a dumbass reason

makes sense for CoD since it's muItipIayer but not for a singIe pIayer mostIy offIine game

So they made huge ass download files so they can save, what, 3 seconds on load times?

no!! they did it to save 6 seconds on Ioad times!!!!!

in square's case though it's them just not wanting to risk compressing assets and Iosing quaIity
it's the onIy reason FF7 was 3 discs, and FF9 was 4
and hey it makes sense for FMVs, they're one time view so you need to get them perfect it's worth it there

Ok hollon i have another question

but square's textures are never that high resoIution
so they don't compress them in hopes the texture doesn't Iook worse

Yk how theres download nad play discs yeah

How does that work

You download the files onto the storage ?

weII
the InstaII Disc instaIIs majority of the content
and PIay Disc Iets you pIay it

So then that means the play disc uses files outside the disc

technicaIIy but one can't work without the other
