KH's menus are quite unique, and they're very KH

even Crash and Spyro's menus are reaIIy unique AND reaIIy Iike themseIves

Fun Fact about how UI's like this get popular.

One studio of a successful game does this and therefore everyone thinks that this is "objectively" good game design, which causes this stuff to bleed into universities and the industry in general where they teach this developers then. Often times people are doing barely actual research regarding this if it's actually good
